A modest man in rural China, armed with little more than sheer willpower and a burning sense of justice, takes on a chemical giant. It’s not the plot of a movie—it’s the real-life journey of Wang Enlin. And let me tell you, his story will not only inspire you but make you believe in the power of one determined individual.

A Quiet Life, Disrupted

Wang Enlin lived a simple life in Yushutun village, nestled in China’s Heilongjiang Province. Like his neighbors, he depended on the land for his livelihood. But in 2001, his life turned upside down when Qihua Group, a state-owned chemical company, began dumping toxic wastewater onto the farmlands of his village.

The once-fertile soil that fed families and sustained their livelihoods was now a contaminated wasteland. Crops withered, and livelihoods were destroyed. Worse, no one seemed to care. Local authorities turned a blind eye, and the villagers, including Wang, were left helpless—or so it seemed.

An Unlikely Lawyer

Now, Wang could have accepted his fate. After all, what chance did a farmer with only three years of formal schooling stand against a wealthy, powerful corporation? But Wang wasn’t one to back down.

Determined to hold Qihua accountable, he decided to study law. Without money for legal education, Wang spent his evenings copying legal textbooks by hand in a local bookstore. The owner of the bookstore, impressed by his dedication, let him pay with bags of corn instead of money.

Over six years, Wang transformed himself into a self-taught legal expert. He studied environmental laws and regulations. His journey wasn’t easy, imagine trying to understand complex legal jargon with barely any formal education.

The Sweet Taste of Justice

With his newfound legal skills, Wang partnered with the Centre for Legal Assistance to Pollution Victims in 2007 and filed a lawsuit against Qihua Group. It was a David-versus-Goliath fight that dragged on for years.

In 2015, Wang and 55 fellow villagers achieved a historic victory when the court ruled in their favor, ordering Qihua Group to pay 820,000 yuan in compensation for the environmental damage caused. While the battle isn’t entirely over, the company continues to appeal the decision.

So, whatever you think might be very important to you or might be just a normal thing that you used to do but are unable to do or live right now and you’re missing it so hard.

Like you always heard that we don’t realize the importance of thing and time until it passed or become a memory. And that’s what the saddest part of life when someone or something that made the memories becomes a memory itself. It really hurts.

For instance, you only missing the roads when you’re home alone and locked. And you only know that you love your Mom only when she’s getting old. This is the truth, maybe sad or unexpected but it’s all that we have. Like you only wanna be younger when you’re getting old.

And the days we’re in right now is itself will become a memory. May be dark or good. That how you got a lifetime opportunity to stay at home, lying in front of T.V to save the world.

Maybe that’s why it is said that realization of something is very important. Means if you’re living your happy time then you must know the importance of that thing in your life.

Right? May be

Don’t you think that if we realize the reality and weight of the time, it’ll be much harder for us? Because Law of Nature says that “Everything we can see or touch, surely dies”. And that’s the universal truth that you probably don’t want to hear or realize.

It’s just human nature. We can only wish for something when it’s not in our hands and wishes never dies. I’m not a philosopher. it is just a random thought that crosses my mind and I’m sharing it with you.

So, those who say that you never realize the importance of time until it passed. They’re true in a way. In fact, you probably never will. You don’t have a choice. Even if you realize and know exactly the weight of the moment, then perhaps you’ll end up ruining it for yourself in worries of the future. I also wish there was some way to know when you’re in your good old days before you actually left them.

Right? May be

Well, this doesn’t all mean that you don’t have to worry about the future. And definitely not in the case of Climate Change. I mean whatever we’re getting right now from nature can’t be just a memory in the future.

Exceptions are always there. Sometimes things are in our hand but the fact is we knowingly don’t realize until it really passed. And I can still say that maybe these things are still in our hands.

I said above that “everything we can see or touch, surely dies”. But you know what? In this case, we’ve increased the extinction rate by 1000 times the normal rate. What we can expect in the next 10 to 100 years? There will be nothing left except memories like the song itself suggest:

Student’s Dream

Well, This is a contradictory dream whether to be happy or worry about?

As a student I know what we always wanted, suspension of classes and exams and however it’s happening but don’t know for how long. But surely we got enough time, no excuses left if we utilize this time properly for productive use.

This is the time you can add to your capabilities and even on your resume. Some Suggestions:-

• You can learn a new language. And I personally recommend Duolingo app for all your need.
• Online short-term courses according to your field of interest such as Microsoft work excel, Adobe Photoshop, Computer programming, etc.
• Explore your hidden talents
• You can also go for Blogging/Vlogging with some perfect niche if you are interested in sharing ideas and thinking.
• You can also be an active volunteer for an NGO
• And there are so many common things like reading books, poetry, cooking, gardening, singing, etc.

Although there are a lot of productive things you may be capable of. All you need is to find and utilize it.

Employee’s Dream

Nearly every employee waits for the weekends after long & disenchanted working days. That weekend is like a sole tree in the burning desert. But fortunately, this lockdown brings that tree to your home.

You can now spend maximum time with your family. There is no ‘BOSS MAN’ or ‘BOSS LADY’ to interrupt you. What could possibly be better?

But still, it may be hard for some employees whose boss is extra haughty. You know exceptions are always there and only difficulty makes you better. You’ve got this.

Wife’s Dream

It’s sarcastic that what a wife wants from along time is happening in this way. An ideal wife always wants her husband to be on her side and help her in homemaking.

This might cause a stronger relationship between them as they get to know each other better than ever before or Viceversa(Just Saying again).

Earth’s Dream

Above all, the most important and crucial dream must come true, and luckily it’s happening.

We’ve done enough with this Earth. Now the tables have turned and it’s like a “to your face humans” thing. I know it’s been hard for us but there are ain’t any other options left. This is the only option we have left.

Probably 2020 has the worst start of any year. From the beginning, we’ve already faced a massive environmental crisis. Nearly 500 million animals were killed in Australia’s wildfire. Scientists already warned that the ‘Extinction crisis is decades in the making.

It’s been hard for all of us. People are losing their jobs, health, and most importantly their lives. The world economy is going to crash. People are suffering worldwide. And still, there is a lot of other impacts we’ll see soon.

We got stuck in this together and we’ve gonna get through this together. But be optimistic and think Isn’t that what we all are looking for?

It’s like our dream come true. Life has given us a chance to live that dream. And this may be once in your lifetime. As I’ve already told you that these days will leave a great story to tell. And we have to make it the right one.

This year brings a new world to us. I know it may not seems new to you know but as soon as this health crisis abates we’ll be in a new world. Previously I discussed the Dreams that came true in Coronavirus lockdown to show that these incidences maybe once in our life that will leave a great story to tell. But these incidences will change our perspective of seeing things.

Here I discuss some of these changes which I guess will add on to our lifestyle or which we may leave forever.

Health

The spread of global pandemic will make people more conscious of their health. As now you’ve already witnessed the situation that how people are taking every possible preventive step. The government also spent a lot to make people’s health awake.

There will be a huge demand for Sanitisers, masks & medical equipment. And I think it’ll be good if people will take these preventive measures. As they not only protect them from the virus but also from various other factors such as pollution & bacteria while going out.

Lifestyle

We are entering a whole new chapter of lifestyle. The lifestyle which some of you may have already adopted but not for a while. The significant changes you are seeing in your daily life, some of them will be permanent.

The social distancing which seems good now as a preventive measure might become a perpetual habit for some of us. The hesitation to attend social gatherings will be a concern for health-conscious people. But somewhere they’ll still be right to maintain a healthy lifestyle in this unhealthy world.

Medical Facilities

Sometimes worst situation describes what you really need more.

The healthcare sector is at the epicenter of this unprecedented global pandemic. But unfortunately countries are not up to the challenge. In fact, a lot of countries have to urgently import consumables and capital equipment.

But when it’s all over it is likely that Govt. will surely enlarge public health expenditure and medical facilities to ensure that whenever worst circumstances strike, we’ve already tightened the belts.

Education

One thing that worst affected in the lockdown is Education as schools & colleges are closed worldwide. It’ll result in late curriculum and exams. But all these happening cleared one thing that education has no boundaries.

The online education system really provides flexibility to students as they aren’t tied down to a fixed schedule and I hope even after lock-down, Educational institutions who still stuck in offline boundaries will provide a choice to the student of getting online classes & submitting assignments.

Environment

The only positive sign we have seen in 2020 is the healing of Earth. It shows that we are just guests here. Nature was, is, and will function with or without us.

Drop-down in pollution level in major countries is surely the best thing in this lock-down. But for how long? As soon as this all over pollution level will increase once again, the ozone layer will deplete once again, water bodies will contaminate once again and the animals who are now wandering freely will hide once again. If we still didn’t get this lesson then nothing can stop Human Extinction.

Economy

The outbreak of this pandemic creates a big shift in the stock market and pushing major economies to the brink. And that Govt. actions may not be enough to stop the decline.

Moreover the demand for oil has dropped significantly as lock-down has kept people inside. Oil prices turned negative for the first time in history.

Even after it’s all over it’ll take too much time to come out of recession. In fact, this recession will ingest millions of jobs and factories. Even IMF already said that the Global Economy will shrink by 3% this year and also declared this as the worst crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s.

Tourism

The major impact is on tourism as nearly every country imposed the restriction on tourism. Airlines cutting flights and customers canceling trips & holidays.

The travel has been badly damaged. Even after people will hesitate to visit other countries. And that’ll surely affect tourism worldwide.

Trust

The most important thing that’ll change after this pandemic is ‘trust’ that we have on others. These situations have changed it all.

• Trust to shake hands & hug
• Trust to travel together
• Trust to gather together
• Trust to visit neighbors
• Trust to visit relatives
• Trust to hanging out with friends
• Trust to come together

After it’s all over the ‘trust’ factor will get missed and I think that’ll be the worst situation of Humanity.

It’s strange that we don’t even know where we are? and what will happen next? Changes are a part of life. But some changes will leave their dark mark on history that will remember till the ages.

But that’s not the whole story. Definitely not.

Have you ever imagined that the way of enjoyment for us can also be the way of living for them and the struggle they face? Yes, I’m talking about the struggle of hilly areas peoples, their struggle for livelihood, education, health care facilities, public transport, daily need items and the struggle to survive.

A lot of migration has been recorded to metro-cities for the search of a better life but if you look deeper they don’t have any other options. Following are the reason and option they have for Nourishment.

Lets start the struggle story :-

EDUCATION

Although it has a very good statistic over the literacy rate of around 82%. But still, there are many places in Uttarakhand ( a HILLY STATE of INDIA) where the struggle for education never ends. An average location of school from the locality is more than 4 km which they have to cover by there foot, the infrastructure of the school is worst then the public toilets in cities, so you can imagine where our youth stand. the statistical data stuck the mind that govt spend only 3.5%of state GDP in Education and expecting the youth to stay on the state. I am from the state and in spite of having government school in our land I never went for schooling there. The reason is simple given below.

There are approx 1689 primary schools in 13 district having 39000 students and 1 teacher. If the teacher is absent then around 1500 schools remain shut. The Bageshwar district has 235 schools with one teacher, Almora has 231, Narkonda village in Dehradun district has 70 students under one teacher, Chamoli has 122, Pithoragarh has 222, Rudraprayag has 165, Pauri Garhwal has 158.

Even in my village the primary school is running worthlessly.

Rather than proving teachers and good infrastructure to students, the government has decided to close more than 1500 schools including higher secondary schools. The schools have become ghost buildings and the youth are suffering more. They are bound to work on a low scale in cities.

In the above pic, the school has become the ghost building and it only opened at the time of election poll. Same as the above schools there are around 50 schools in Pithoragarh district become ghost building.

Water Supply

Being a hilly state, there are several natural as well as manmade water bodies. Rivers, lakes, springs or gadheras, tube wells, dug wells, Koops, River Bank Filtration units etc. are the major drinking and irrigation water sources.

But the Hilly regions of Central Himalayans facing the problem of water supply in Uttarakhand. The naulas, Dharas(springs), Gadheras, tube wells etc. becomes dry because of global warming. For the arrangement of water, the people usually move to near naulas which is around 5 to 6 km far away from their home because no water connection is provided yet.

Except for Nainital and Dehradun district rest, 11 have the problem of water supply. Now you can imagine other states are giving free water to peoples the natives of Uttarakhand are still facing the problem of water after his birth of 20 years. Uttarakhand is the origin of main rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Koshi, Kali Nadi, Ramganga.

In the absence of proper rainwater harvesting structures in the region, rainwater is hardly available and stream water is available only for the people living close to river-banks. Due to largely varied population density in the region, the majority of the people do not have access to these supplies and are generally dependent on the local sources of water supply (springs) and dug wells (only in the valleys).

Groundwater can be an important alternative source for meeting the water needs of this region. Groundwater is considered to be a sustainable source of water supply in a region because it can provide a year-round supply of good quality water if properly developed.

The jal board authority of Uttarakhand has taken many steps to rejuvenate the naulas but still not at that level. The Himalayan areas have very much fractured rock structures which result in the rapid diffusion of precipitation below the ground and makes it very tough to tap the groundwater. The problem can be solved if there is proper pumping facility available for supply of water.

The question might be stuck on your head that why I only quoted Uttarakhand not other hilly stations. well there is no specific reason for that, I have born in Uttarakhand and I have monitored it so closely. Other hilly states also have a same picture but it depends on the political stability on a state which is lacking in Uttarakhand.

All these crisis are symptoms of us because we put up greed above need. Truth can be denied but cannot be avoided.

You know it’s good to be smart but not too smart for your own good. To betray nature is to betray us and to save nature is to save us. Remember if we don’t all work together now to save the environment we’ll be equally EXTINCT.

Earth is in indeed danger. It’s not just a statement by a random person. Believe me, it has the capability to vanish ‘All’ the things even the smartest creature like us. The supreme power, nature knows how to get rid off the things who betrayed it.

Just think for a second who bring this danger to Earth? Is it really us? Or is it the Earth’s own life span? Some are really looking for the answer and some are just doing to get awards for no reason. But the fact is they, however, influencing other unintentionally, which is a positive sign. Being an environmentalist gives you the link to connect with this mysterious nature, to know a lot more about the cycle of nature and how beautiful it is. What if everybody thinks to become an environmentalist. Anyone who cares even somewhat about environmental issues, then maybe we’ll find the answers.

Recently the capital city of India – New Delhi, actually not just capital but the whole Delhi and its neighbouring region are facing the massive air pollution. Air quality index touched the mark of more than 500. Pollution control authorities already declared the health emergency in the region. This is a serious issue for any country and it’s people. Reports say that this is happening due to the stubble burn of the remaining part of Paddy crop in the neighbouring States which is not of any use for the farmers. Some reports also state that AQI reaches new height every year during the festive season in the month of October and November due to the massive burn of crackers.

Let me make it clear it’s not out of some religious prospect. I respect people’s faith and their religious sentiments. But think about it by yourself. Today’s situation is not the same as earlier. Times are changing. Where are we heading? You all know what this planet already going through. We have a big responsibility on our shoulders now. Climate is changing so why aren’t we? Maintaining the circle of life is not gonna be easy.

The sad truth is nobody really cares because by the time it gets severe they’ll probably be dead.

Overpopulation Effects

UN already said that if current trends continue, the global population will peak at 11.5 billion by 2100 (beyond the Earth’s capacity). In which around 65% comes alone from Asia. I can clearly see the negative environmental and economic outcomes. Most of you already facing problems in your daily life, but the fact is you aren’t bothering at all may be due to your busy schedule.

Overpopulation in India

People from the countries where there is a huge population density already going through the frustrating problems of overcrowded buses, metros, railways, parks, congested streets, buildings, poor hygiene, lack of privacy. The actual condition may be much more severe. These are leveling down your own life and impoverished your quality life.

Let’s go one step further, a lot of major social and economic problem or you can say the common topic of ever debate and discussions like unemployment, pollution, etc. It is undeniable that this may also due to the problem of having too many people, which is making your life more stressed and competitive. Your children will also face the same.

Now, when it comes to our beloved planet, you need to worry. As our population has grown, so has our use of resources and you all know what this planet already going through right now. More people means more demand and then more supplies and productions and eventually more use of finite resources and at the end, it’s all over.

Advancement in technology and medicine is meant for our quality life but not to degrade the Earth and ecological balance. All the naturals can’t be replaced by artificial. Human is the most intelligent creature that has ever walked the Earth, but somehow they turned into self destructor. I’ve read many articles and blogs about the social and economic problems but always found one thing missing i.e, overpopulation. Don’t know why people always forgot to mention from population aspect.

Population Growth

Although the average growth is slowing because of average fertility rates are falling in nearly every country. If it continues to slow and fertility rates forecasts are slightly off that is 1 or 2 babies per woman, our peak population will peak lower. I’ve read it somewhere that it took 200,000 years for our population to reach 1 billion and only 200 years to reach 7 billion. Now that’s fast & furious.

Overpopulation Solutions

It’s time to wake up. We have to make it happen. Make everyone aware. Make choices today like family planning, reduced consumption, pollution control, habitat protection. It’s not about any country it’s for our whole world. Choices we make today will affect the future of our species and all life on Earth.

We don’t want Thanos snap we need to be smarter and awarded before it’s too late.
