It is heartbreaking because that mindset never seems to go away. People treat a “tiny percentage” like an acceptable gamble until that fraction of a percent actually happens, and suddenly lives are ruined.

Please tell your husband that his frustration is proof he’s doing the right thing. It must be exhausting to constantly be the voice of caution in the room, but the quiet pushback from people like him is literally what keeps disasters from happening. When safety works, nobody notices and that makes it a thankless job, but an incredibly vital one.
