Covid Crisis In India | Never Thought This Would Happen

I know we’ve been going through a very tough time. The new variant or mutation of Coronavirus turned out to be much more severe. India Covid cases set the global record, for the first time the daily cases crossed over 3.5 lakhs/350k and that too is for several consecutive days now. It is estimated that the number of cases to arise more in the coming days.

The data we’re seeing is just the estimation provided by the officials, it is really horrific to say that the daily cases and death tolls could be a huge undercount. All the hopes, medication, and our preparation don’t seem enough to tackle the second wave and the challenges we are facing now.

I thought that 2021 will be the better year for all of us and it was going through for the first 2 months, cases were declining rapidly every day, the economy was about to get on track again, we just started to breathe freely. But now it is proving me wrong.

Honestly saying, I don’t want to write this and I don’t find anything to write between all this chaos. But however, I feel the urge to write down all the experiences I’m witnessing to let all of you know that what India is going through right now, the situation of covid crisis. The virus is swallowing people in India.

The thing is we weren’t prepared and we didn’t see this coming. With such a massive population it becomes very difficult and challenging to fulfill all of the needs. We’ve run out of medical facilities, oxygen supplies, hospital beds, ventilators, and other medical equipment. There is a shortage of doctors & ambulances. People are dying outside of the hospitals due to the unavailability of beds. Burial grounds & cemeteries are running out of space.

On social media and in television footage, desperate relatives plead for oxygen outside hospitals or weep in the street for loved ones who died waiting for the treatment. If you see the ground reality, it’ll be much more shocking and terrible in all aspects.

This image wrenching the millions of hearts where a woman from Agra, India rescuing her covid positive husband by breathing into his mouth, trying to revive her dying husband through rescue breathing, but he could not be saved despite all the efforts. Read it here.

In another news, an 85-year-old man from Nagpur, India, gave up his bed for a younger Covid-19 patient and said, ‘I have lived my life,’ later dies at home. Read it here.

The news channels and internet is flooded with such kind of news. Images that we are seeing are heartbreaking and beyond belief. I can’t emphasize this more, the situation is getting really bad now. A little cough and cold shaking people to the core.

It’s a shame that during the initial phase of the second spike in cases, my country’s system, political parties, government, responsible authorities & Election commission were all busy conducting elections in West Bengal, India. There were crowded rallies and roadshows going on every day without any fear of spreading the virus and against all covid-19 protocol. Elections being more important now risked the lives of innocent people. But of course, they never had or never will hold responsible themselves for the circumstances that arise.

We are deeply saddened by all the loss. Our condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. We can’t imagine what you must be feeling right now. Words may not suffice to express the heartfelt sorrow that all of us are feeling. We are sorry for your loss. All we can say is to stay strong in these difficult times, battle is still going on.

And thanks to all the Nations & Companies who come forward in these desperate times to offer aid as India battles a deadly second wave of Covid-19. This active response of the world to India’s health emergency is much appreciated.

Some already sent the help in the form of medical equipment supplies, ventilators, oxygen concentrators, cylinders, and other aids. Other Nations promised to send the help soon in the coming weeks. We are all in this together. Helping each other in critical time is what humanity needs the most in today’s world. And a country like India, which has a tremendous capacity to produce vaccines not only for its people but for other countries too, needs to heal from this covid crisis soon.

The only positive news that is quite relaxing to the ears is that people are coming forward, donating and arranging help for each other. Like there is an uncle in my neighborhood who turned his local school van into a hospital bed. There are different people coming up with different ideas so that it somehow helps those who are in need. If you would like you can also donate either to PM Cares Fund or other trustworthy NGOs like AidIndia, GiveIndia, Khalsa Aid India, and others.

The front-line workers are also continuously working day & night despite all the risks involved.

By saying this I remembered a very good line that ‘You step outside you risk your life, you eat you risk your life, you drink you risk your life and nowadays you breathe and you risk your life, it doesn’t matter, we don’t have a choice. The only thing we can choose is what we are risking it for.’

And as I already said that I should not have been writing this, especially in these tough times where we already going through a lot of negativity all around us. But I still write in a hope for better days and that next time we come up with some positive news in our next blog.

The blog isn’t mean to spread any negativity and any more panic, it just means that we still have a long way to go. Be strong and be a responsible citizen. Know your duty towards the nation, wear a mask and stop the spread.

Take care of yourself. Stay safe Stay at home. This too shall pass. God bless.

  • It is so horrible that anyone has to go through this. I should be ashamed that we were fortunate to be able to stay home and not have to venture out except to buy groceries. We, so far were lucky enough to get the vaccination. No one knows what the next wave will be, or if there will be another one. Caution is the word.

    • Yes, It's really horrific to even think about all this. No one deserves to go through this.
We didn't expect that this second wave would hit us this hard.

      I pray for everyone's safety.
It isn't over yet, please wear mask and stop the spread.

  • We will win. I request to stay home and stay safe. This is the tough time for all of us, but as we are indian and known for our commitment and humanity we will revive again.
Stay safe partner and all the citizens.
    God bless you

    • True that. It's a tough time for us, but we will surely get through this if we know our responsibility towards the Nation.
      Stay Home Stay Safe

  • I love every word you have written and I agree with every suggestion. I watch the news and know the devastation of your country. I have a close friend in Delhi who goes out and helps the poor laying on the site of the roads by feeding and giving clothes. I am helping too.

The world is uniting to help India, and so there is hope. What can be done with authorities? That is the question.

    • People helping each other in this difficult times makes me feel positive. Good people still exists. And thanks to you too.

And thanks to everyone for helping and keeping India and other struggling countries in prayers.
If we all unite as one, we will definitely get through this situation very soon.

And the question about authorities doesn't matter if we have people United.

  • This is a tough time and it's encouraging to see people go out of there way to help others. It's unfortunate about how the virus got to spread so much in India and the relaxed cautionary measures by the political rallies. Many heartfelt condolences to all affected families. Thanks for spreading the awareness

  • You covered the whole situation in this Blog. It's true that writing and describing the situation is not the best way but we need to write our heart out and spread the positive vibes. You have very nicely detailed the positives too in your blog and that is the reason we need to write about this situation and appeal, we are in this together and will pass through this phase together.
    Thanks for sharing!

    • Thanks Ashish.
I've written what I'm seeing and witnessing for several days now. Situation is surely on the worst side, and currently there is no any sign of slowing down.
But as you said and what everybody is praying for and that I'm hoping that this is going to get better. These dark clouds will soon show us a sunshine of happiness.
      Stay Safe and healthy.

      • Yes, the situation is grim but we have to face the situation as it comes. We are left with no option.
There is no sign of slowing down but it will surely subside.
Hope all the prayers are answered soon and this horrible present becomes a thing of past. "There is surely a light at the end of tunnel"

  • Your blog post is a heartbreaking, personal confirmation of what we in the USA have been seeing on our TV screens in recent days. It is VERY SAD and DEEPLY INFURIATING to see what happens when (as happened here in the USA... and as is also happening now in Brazil and other countries) political concerns over-ride scientific concerns. As I wrote in a recent blog post, some of us have not been well-educated to understand — and be respectful towards — the power of exponential growth (and how exponentially more cases of a viral infection lead to exponentially more opportunities for a virus to mutate...) Now your country (and Brazil and others...and even the state of Michigan in the USA) are experiencing the exponential grief that accompanies such a horrible situation. Deep breath in. Deep breath out.

    • True that. It surely a heartbreaking to see all of the situations and countries struggling. I’m aware about USA and other countries when cases were on a peak there. The situations are horrific.

‘Political concerns over-ride scientific concerns’. I guess it happened everywhere, isn’t it? People need to know this. I'll surely see what you've written about this.

Anyway, Hoping for the days to breathe freely.

      • Nope, and there is nothing to say for now. There are already different theories.
But the only thing which matters now is loving and caring for each other.

  • Some people who are supposed to be educated still can't see the problem, but if they read your article maybe they will now. I'm sending my heartfelt feelings to everyone in India who are suffering. I'm not a religious person but that doesn't mean to say that I don't care.

    • They need to know the battle against Covid 19 isn't over yet. Precautions is the only way for now. One laxity can cost thousands of innocent lifes, that unfortunately we are facing now.

Thankyou for your care and wishes. Being non-religious person has nothing to do with your attitude and personality.

      Stay safe and healthy, friend.

  • We have been hearing the horrific news from India on our screens. Our hearts grieve and prayers that aid will arrive swiftly abound. As I look out on the open air and space in my life I cannot really understand the absolute hopeless feeling you must all have because of population and closeness of living. What can I say that is positive.? As a CHRISTIAN this one thing I know in this broken world is that all human souls are destined for a HOME away from the world's horrors and needs. That's why Jesus came and died FOR ALL HUMANITY. GOD;s LOVE defies borders. For now all of us need to care one for the other and obey rules beneficial for now life. Are we all being WOKEN UP to find our PATH to Eternity.? Could a world of sorrow and Covid shakeup be a way of indicating that DIVINE LOVE will show all souls THE WAY.? I sorrow with and for you ALL>

    • Thankyou for your concern.
The actual ground reality is much more horrific than what they are showing on the screens. Inoccent lifes are losing breaths. Everyday feels like tomorrow will be better. These are the bad days for our country.
Our deep condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.
We can only hope that this would get better in coming days, so we can breathe freely.
And thanks to all the people who keeps the humanity alive even in today's broken world, without this divine love nothing would be possible.
My pray and hope for every country who are struggling with this deadly virus. May you all be blessed.

  • A terribly dramatic situation I saw on TV. These harrowing situations you describe make me feel very sad.

    • It is sad. The second wave is more aggressive. Just yesterday we recorded over 400k cases on a single day, that's a worst situation for any country

  • It's horrific actually. The situation is going out of control. Everywhere there is chaos.
And yet I see thousands without masks.
I wish "all" the people are aware that this is nothing like a flu. Unfortunately, no one gets it unless they are infected.
Being a daughter of a health worker, I must say, I have seen them working hard with no support. No contact with family.. no sleep.. nothing.
A few days back, I came across a video shot by some doctors in Mumbai, literally begging the people. To a large extent, this can be controlled successfully. But only with people's cooperation. And other assistances from the govt.

We can do nothing but hope for the best.. and of course fight it in our own way. Wear the masks, sanitize and try to stay at homes!
It is very necessary for this post to reach people.

    • People's cooperation is must if we have to win this covid battle, but even in my locality I'm seeing people without masks and gathering together. They need to understand that their laxity might cost someone's life.
Our salute to all health workers who continuously working hard to bring us out from the dark clouds. You should be proud of your parents.
And yes, hope for the better tomorrow. We do facing very horrific situations and days but we'll surely get out of this if we responsible enough to know our duty towards the nation.

      Thankyou for writing this comment.

  • These are very heart-wrenching stories and visuals. I am deeply saddened by all the loss and sufferings. My prayers are with all the affected families. It's good to know that India is united and connected at this time of the Covid crises. Wishing you and your nation a quick recovery from this virus outbreak.

    • Thankyou so much for your prayers. Much appreciated.
People helping each other in tough times, that's really good to see and if we continue to be united, we'll definitely overcome this soon.

  • Great post! My earnest prayer for your country. I felt sad about the situations in your land. I know in God's timeline this disease will soon be gone. Though, it's so hard to think about this matter, yet maybe there were reasons behind this. Let us keep the faith burning! Stay safe everyone🙏

    • Thankyou for your prayers. It's true that my country facing worst of the covid virus. The second phase or mutation is extremely contagious and dangerous.
But as you said keep the faith and I do have that. Let's hope for the better days.
