Wow, that’s actually good hearing from someone who knows Dubai not as a visitor, but as a chapter of life. And yeah, I felt that contrast too, even in a short visit – Glass and big things all around. It made me question my own ambitions. But, I totally get your feelings – that feels honest, not ungrateful. You’d better know when it’s time to step away from the glass and glow. Also, it means a lot that you’re sharing this with your daughters.

It’s where I’ve spent most of my life and I loved it while I was there. It’s a country that dreams and makes dreams possible and you’re right about how it carries its past along with its future. It’s amazing how Arabs love to sit in the desert or outdoors and watch a football match with all the luxury they’ve created. It’s hard not to feel that ambitious or not to be a dreamer when you’re in that country. And while I love everything the country has done for me, I wouldn’t want to return because I suppose I’ve had enough of the glass and lights.
I’m sharing your post with my daughters because I’m sure this is how they feel about it.
