Elijah was a great man of God, faith, and a good example of a true prophet. When God told him to say something, he said it. Where God him to go, he went. So, you can already see one reason we don’t have modern-day prophets. Most people do only the things “they” want to do. This story of Elijah is captivating and inspiring.
Elijah had been given a message by God to deliver to King Ahab. The message? There would be no rain or dew on the land for the next few years!!! The reason? Well, as a group, the kings of ancient Israel were not known for their goodness. Each king is described in the Bible as being worse than all the previous kings, and Ahab was the worst (1 Kings 16:30). Ahab also chose “Jezebel” for his wife, and we’ll leave it at that.
Ahab and Jezebel had turned Israel away from God and now worshipped the pagan God Baal. King Ahab scoffed at Elijah (who is usually described as hairy and dishevelled) The king would not repent and became angry.
Elijah hurried away as God instructed him (1 Kings 17:3) to flee to the Brook Cherith where God had told him to hide as surely the angry king’s soldiers would begin to search for him. Now Elijah was not a “prepper”, so he had no supplies. When God said go, Elijah just went.
Elijah awoke to the sound of ravens “cawing” as they deposited meat and bread on a flat stone right in front of him and then flew away. For some time, each day they did this until the small brook began to run dry because the drought prophecy was being fulfilled.
Elijah thanked God and of course, prayed often. Once more, God spoke to Elijah: “Go to Zarephath and a widow will provide for you there” So again what did Elijah do? he went. At the end of his long journey, he came upon the widow and asked her for a drink of water and a morsel of bread.
With tears in her eyes, she told Elijah she had only enough for her and her son’s last tiny meal before they would surely die. The drought had taken all food and water from the land.
Elijah again made his request but told the widow she could prepare the meal for her and her son afterwards. Something she saw in Elijah’s eyes called faith compelled her to do as he asked. She cooked the small cake for Elijah and gave him a cup of water.
Elijah kneeled and prayed. When the widow went back into her kitchen the bin was full of flour and the jar full of oil. Elijah dwelled there for months. The flour bin remained full, and the oil jar never ran dry until the drought was over.
This widow’s faith would once more be deeply tested—and affirmed—when her son was struck with a serious illness. You can read about it and God’s miraculous intervention in 1 King 17:17-24.
But the answer to the question “If God Still Exists Why Are There No Prophets?” Is: We no longer need them. We have God’s word, the prophecies which have been fulfilled, the prophecies in progress, and the prophecies to come. God wrote them down for us (He knows I’m forgetful) in a wonderful book, I call the Bible.
I’ve been inactive in writing for about 6 months, (I can’t even remember) having two back surgeries. I had hoped to use the time off to write more, but pain and meds have foiled that plan. Hopefully, I’ll be fixed now. God still has plans for me.
My magnificent Pastor Joanne Flowers inspired me to write this fantastic short Bible story of Elijah the prophet.

Wow! What a wonderful story of Elijah. You're right Dennis, God wrote everything down for us, we don't longer need Prophets. Good to have you back in writing. It's a God's wish.
Michael
Thank you, Michael. I think it helps me to not feel sorry for myself when I'm in pain hearing about others who have suffered for their faith.
And yet, so many people claim to be prophets (profits)to this day.
They typically develop a cult following who believes that they, the "prophet" are special people who get special messages from God and the people have to consult with them to hear from God.
And the reality is, born again people of God have God's spirit and the Holy Spirit leads, guides and teaches people.
People who claim to be prophets are typically egocentric and want people's focus on them and in my opinion, they act as if they are the mediator between God and people. Nice post!
And of course we have the word of God as our guide! The Holy Spirit helps us to understand.
Thank you so very for taking time to read and especially for your king comments. You also hit the nail on the head!
My pleasure. I really enjoyed this post.
My fingers meant "kind" comments. LOL
We don't have prophets to tell us about God. Why? Because he's poured out his very spirit upon us✨
Thanks for reading and your comment Qonyike. It is very much appreciated!
My pleasure 😊
such a wonderful story and share! 💖💖
Thank you, Cindy There are so many interesting and inspiring stories in the Bible!
You're so welcome! 💖
When I speak of "Prophets" I mean Prophesizing the "events to come" as described in the Bible. I apologize for not making that clear somehow in the title. 🙏
Our culture seeks after new and bigger signs and wonders. Christ though said, "A wicked and adulterous generation demands a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah" (Matthew 16: 4). Christ's own Resurrection from the dead is the sign we have been given.
Thanks so much for reading and your comments Anna!
