What Happened To Facebook? By:- Topfan Badge Owner

Have you ever thought why your Facebook is flooded with memes? & why we got more likes on shared meme instead of our profile pic?

Facebook our teenage partner, our first social platform where we posted so many shits. I still remember I started Facebook when I was in class 9th when I posted my first ever photo on the social platform to show to the world with just 10 likes and no comments. And that time it feels like we had a much bigger and better platform to share the memories that we lived with our friends and families.

But as we grown we get used to it. We started posting :-

  • What we ate?
  • How we feel?
  • What we have done the night before? and
  • What we’ll do later and with whom?

But then something big happened. Suddenly Thumbs Up lost his respect when other Emojis showed up. Family photos lost its identity when Selfies showed up.

But the tables completely turned when ‘MEMES’ showed up on FB posts. That was the turning point of what we are seeing today. Most of us haven’t changed our profile since then.

No one can ever thought that one day these normal-looking weird jokes will take over the platform like this. They ate up my phone gallery. Shoutout to the memers who played so well. My greetings to them. Not gonna lie but you’ve done a great job, this new world gonna need a good memer.

Where It come from?

Do you really know the concept of memes? Where does it exactly come from? well, let’s take a look to the past.

A meme is a unit of cultural information spread by imitation. The meme is taken from a Greek ‘MIMEA’ meaning imitated and introduced in 1976 by British evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins in his work “The Selfish Gene”.

History of meme

Taking a quote from Inception movie-

An idea is like a virus. Resilient. Highly contagious. And even the smallest seed of an idea can grow. It can grow to define or destroy you

COBB

And his concept is now trending worldwide and perhaps more contagious than any other virus.

These memes completely changed the way I look at the situation every time, even normal-looking photos. It just pumped up my bad habit of laughing at a serious moment.

Meme opened up a new world. It’s a new way to define something. It’s a new way of marketing. Have you ever seen Fevicol ad memes? Check out their FB page. It’s a new way to attract millions of followers to your page.

Meme holds the power either to make you internet sensation or to defame you overnight for your deeds. Even somewhat in the Politics, memes are getting their place secured which however catching the attention of youth.

We all know the concept of Demand & Supply. Due to huge demand, a lot of trollers and memers has entered the field with their meme pages. Simply put, Facebook is more like Memebook now.

Facebook Top Fan Badge

One of the latest updates on Facebook was the introduction of the Top-Fan badge or you can say a ‘little Jewel’ icon beside your name while commenting on any of the popular pages. It differentiates you from other followers and commenters on that page as it is publicly visible on a top fans list on that page’s community tab. Perhaps it may be a proud moment for you. Actually, it’s a reward you get for being actively engaging with that page including liking, commenting regularly, sharing posts, or watching videos.

Although, it’s just a Facebook algorithm behind the selection of worthy Top fans. But for page owners, it might help to analyze their page and content popularity, marketing efforts, and most importantly the community’s engagement with their posts.

What is the Advantage of getting Top Fan Badge?

Most probably you also got a notification in your Facebook notification tab saying something like, “CONGRATULATIONS! You’re a top fan of this page now, Comment now to show your top fan badge to others”.

But why is this important for you? Well, it’s a bit contradictory to go on that side therefore I refuse to comment on this. But only you know how you are getting benefit from being a top fan of a popular Facebook page or a popular brand.

I think having a top fan badge may give you a greater chance of being heard by the brand owners. For instance, if you are a top fan of the Cristiano Ronaldo page which is insanely popular, this may give you the satisfaction that your interactions aren’t going unnoticed.

Now, I really want to know if you have a top-fan badge, how it feels? Is this exciting at all? or Does it help you anyway? Because being a top fan badge owner of some certain meme pages, I don’t feel anything at all. Or perhaps it is just me.

But still, if there is anything where Facebook is working great is reminding Birthdays and showing your memories to remind you how ugly you were with some creepy photos. Even the comment section now is filled with ‘Someone mentioned you in a comment’ or ‘someone reacted to your post’ or ‘There is a popular post you may miss’.

Hopefully, we still have Instagram to continue posting shit on the walls. But that too for how long? Somethings wrong. I can feel it.

    • Yeah bitter truth..FB lost it's identify and I think Insta too.. may be not today but it's gonna happen

      • Social media has not only changed the world but is, itself, changing at what seems the speed of light. Not all of this is positive.

        • But negatives are in charge. I mean FB lost it's power to those breaches that changed the way of thinking specially privacy conscious people. 🙂

  • I guess myself this is exactly why I stay out of Face the Book and Instagram and…. whatever other platforms out there. Just wordpress for my crazy writing and thank you for dropping by, it´s all too much information and dessinformation. They already made a Face of the Book of me, People are people…. trying to F you up. This social media, is beyond me and I let it be. Just pointless to fight it, might as well have as much fun with what you got in the brain and in everything in life. I only have half a neuron so for me it´s easy.

    • @Charlypriest I think I should too leave FB behind. That good old days. Life is more wonderful without this. No point to fight. I know that now.

  • InterestIng! I dropped Facebook and Twitter because it was like ‘pissin’ in the wind!’ Losing it and have your words come back to hit you on the face, so to speak!

  • Few people talk about Facebook and I thought it would be a good source of traffic since it comes second after Google. For once in a while, I try to put up a post on Facebook just to see if my audience is growing or not but I discovered over the years that it also requires more of your time in order to build an audience from Facebook and therefore makes it a little bit hard.

  • @Jeofreyogire There are other social platforms out there too. I don't think giving time to build an audience is worthy in case of FB, but may be it can. Just saying. Even though every other platforms requires time too to built a base for you to grow.

  • @Halbarbera yeah thinking that too. But leaving something behind is not gonna be easy as it seems. :-\

  • Well this blog was nice.... It just took me in my old memories .... Thnk uh.... For your blog ...
