There is no such thing as race. None. There is just a human race — scientifically, anthropologically.

tony morrison

Racism has always been an object of the hotspot. From America to Africa, Asia to Europe, it has no boundaries. However, when I talk about my country India, it came to light when Mahatma Gandhi was pushed off the train by the foreigners saying you are black and was being insulted by white supremacists.

Regardless, this is where when the revolution starts, the struggle for Freedom. And after the long battle for Independence, he proved that Violence is not the only way to revolt for righteousness.

Precisely, not only this. I think racism is not only limited to colors only. For instance, let’s take my country India,

India is a country that has perfect mixtures of cultures, rituals, languages, and religions that you can’t find anywhere else on this planet. This a loving country wherein distance of every 1 km you will surely see a religious place and different accents. Every part of this country has its own beautiful culture, and way of living. Every part is a whole new world in itself. For instance,

  • Northeast India is famous for its beauty, hygiene, and being an organic state with peace-loving people.
  • South India is known for its higher literacy, culture, and law-abiding citizens.
  • North India is known for its natural beauty, agriculture, cleanliness, simplicity & hardworking people.
  • West India for their agriculture, business, tourism, and historical places and the place of a long battle.

But this isn’t as cheesy as it sounds. Sometimes we forgot that the truth is often different. And this is all because of some social norms that we take lightly but left their dark mark on humanity. When people take themselves off from their convenience zone and entered big cities real racism starts there.

Although as I said earlier INDIA is a beautiful & peace-loving country so these things do not dominate the whole urban culture much, still some grounds are there that should be discussed.

Different Types Of Racism In India

Using the word chinki” To Mock Northeast People

Source: Facebook

This word is used to make fun of Northeastern women in various cities. I also heard this many times when I was in college. People said this because they have small eyes and pretend that they are useless despite knowing nothing about their culture, even during this pandemic, they got much hate by saying that they belong to China and look like them. Isn’t it racism?

Racism By Language

India has an ocean of languages, nearly 780 languages speak here, most of them are unrecognized and it holds the second position after Papua New Guinea.

But after entering the big cities there are priorities of only two languages i.e., Hindi & English which is not bad but a problem arises when people make fun of other languages like saying “Bihari” who belongs to Bihar. And khadi boli of Haryana, pahadi boli of Uttarakhand.

There are many places in India where child education is still in the native languages like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and the many South Indian States. Also, in some of the tribal areas, the education level is so poor that they never taught and learned English or Hindi. Prejudice against them with their terminology is a threat to democracy as well as humanity because in Democracy everyone has the right to express himself.

Making Fun Of People Because Of Their Outfits

As I Said, India is rich in culture, along with language and completion it has varieties in dressing sense also. For instance, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, different outfits describe different cultures of India. A long overcoat is used in Kashmir and a simple Dhoti is used in South India. But when they gathered together in the center of India real racism commences, people start judging themselves, murmuring about their appearance. Banning them in clubs and restaurants or public gatherings.

Also, when we move toward the west we see people in big turbans. A big Turban is the pride of Sikhs. But, It’s a matter of laughing for some low mentality people. But remember every community and religion is the pride of our country. Mocking someone only shows how goofiest you are. Sikhs are the people who are always ready for the country whenever the need arises.

Discrimination In Movie Industries

Bollywood always involves controversies because of the discrimination against outsiders who don’t have any filmy bckground. They hesitate to take newcomers and a real talent, rather look for the handsome and fair complexion as a lead role, even for the role of Lord Krishna(Hindu God), I’ve never seen the role of Lord Krishna in dark complexion in movies or serials. Even he has a dark complexion in real mentioned Purans(Scared Hindu text).

But there are also other movie industries like Tollywood (South Indian Film Industry). They are somewhere better. They’re providing equal opportunities to real talent irrespective of your complexion and background.

Racism In Caste And Religion

Casteism has had a long relationship with India from ancient times. In the Vedic period, only the upper caste has the right to education, and the lower caste insisted work as a cleaner. To stop the inequality Government started the reservation system. Furnishing reservations will be helpful for the racist in the caste but it has created more hate for the unreserved because of the lack of translucency in the Ordinance.

If not caste then religion faces racism. The problem lies everywhere if you belong to the Hindu majority area Muslims will suffer and if you’re from the Muslim majority, Hindus will face racism.

Skin tone racism

Every color is beautiful

India has an average yellow and light brown skin color in North India. And in South India, it is a bit dark as compared to other areas but as we know beauty doesn’t lie in color some of the product brands play marketing games. Beauty products like fair & handsome and fair & lovely indicate and tell you that if you want to be handsome and want to change your complexion then use our product. But Why change? Why can’t you accept what God makes you?

And thankfully after so many years Hindustan Unilever(parent company of a beauty product) agreed and decided to change their product name and remove the word “Fair” from the product. Check out:- Lovely need not to fair

In the final analysis

I think Racism will never end as long as humanity exists. It’s human nature to be superior in front of others. Recently people are debating Racism, but for how long? 2-3 weeks or until someone again will lose his/her life. Even if you somehow eliminate racism in one particular field, then still there are other grounds that are even worst than this field.

It’s all up to us how we take these things. People will always speak something because that’s what they do. If you’re unable to change people then you can change yourself. It’ll be much easier for you. Just leave these things as you got your damn battles and do what makes you happy and your family proud.

Numerous ordinances are passed in Parliament to stop racism but the truth no Law can change your mindset unless you want to change it.

This is all my personal thinking about Racism. It may differ from your opinion but the focus point is we have to stop racism.

What Do you think about Racism? Is it going to end someday? Or debating over this issue is worthless.

  • Racism will never end as long as people symbolise Black as bad luck and White for peace.
    It’s an unending debate..

    • Indeed mr. Admin its start from the biased mindset of public whether of color, caste and even plants no one want to take withered flower at home. Change is must needed

  • This is a very interesting and informative article. I think racism is very hard to eradicate. Intellectually, people may believe in equality and justice, and their behavior may be nonracist, but it may take much longer for the underlying emotional and instinctual racism to change.

    • I am agree with you views cheryl, racism is never lasting topic because if we will look in our surroundings everything we do has some relationship with racism even we don’t want to do that, but change is in our hand, we can’t change other but a bit respect for others definitely give a positive response 😊

    • Thankyou sonu and its my pleasure you love the post. Keep visiting again❤ and i would love to visit your site😊

  • I love the quote at the beginning of your post. God only created humans. It was man that created race. We will never wipe out racism unless we look at others as humans.

    • Indeed and that was the motive of my post, everything depends on us, change will definitely come or maybe we will change ourselves,,thanks for visiting 😊

  • Amazing post! Truly, racism isn’t just about colour, as you mentioned. Let’s build a better world and society for everyone!😊💫

  • True and informative. I’ve not learned so much of India in a single day. : ) People should not be fighting one another. The war lies with the greedy dictators in government roles who affect lives and steal freedom bit by bit. They’ve been lurking in positions of power since civilization began, they are among us still.

    • You are right dawn, our politicians has made the community to fight with each other and that sometimes also leads to racism. I just tried to show some of the glimpses what the loopholes in the society, and thankyou so much for your appreciation 😊

  • Racism, nepotism, skin colour discrimination, sexism……when will this madness go away in India or in the world? Honestly, I’m so sick of seeing such cases become headlines in the news. It’s quite sad, really….

Once again, you’ve done a great job in presenting your on this topic. I sure hope to see more soon!

    • I am glad my post make some sense. As a youth I’m trying hard to present true picture of these things. If someone encourage with my post, it’ll be great. thankyou for being here😊, i will continue this in future also……Deepak

  • Hi, there. Nicely said piece!

I have a slightly different take than everybody else on this topic: I don't think humans are naturally racist as much as "tribal." Cultural pride and bias will always be around, and that's bad as long as it basically just promotes "good feelings" and healthy competition, say, amongt various groups.

I also believe that racism in its present form today grew out of Western culture, specifically starting in the 1700s with the University of Gottingen, and has compounded and spread throughout the world since then.

Before then, though, I believe that the general view on race was completely different, that people did not judge by skin color but "class" was important, and anyone of any color could be in and/or rise to admirable positions and secure their place in society without having to worry about what they "looked" like.

The topic and the "problem" is so layered and complex now, though, I think it will take scores of years for racism to dissipate. But I do think eventually it will. :)

    • You have different views regarding it. I respect that. But I think who made this topic or layer more complex. Is it us or those who hold capitals. And especially the immigrants who are still facing racism and not just by colors. It's kinda an evolvement that we've come this far that we're discriminating against each other. I still think that racism is an unending topic. But as you said that it'll take so many years to dissipate, I hope that'll happen.

      • Do you know what I really think? I think it’s easy to be racist. It’s easy, and takes no effort. It’s hard to be kind and generous and accepting – it requires an emotional commitment.
As long as we are lazy and take the easy path of hatred, we are doomed to unending racism.
We must preach energy – good, generous energy. That’s how we’ll end it.

        • And that's the human nature to always fall for the easy takes.
          You said it all right.
And I think somewhere it's also depend upon the stereotypes & rituals we have from the ages like 'black' symbolises bad luck or something whereas 'White' represents for a peace.
This things also need to be addressed.

    • I also had a terrible typo in my statement above: cultural pride and bias is NOT bad (I forgot the "not," lol) but more or less harmless as long as benign activities or stances result from them like healthy competition and mutual respect. We don't seem to have any of that today. Mutual respect is definitely way gone.

  • I think it is sad but true that humans will always find someone to hate. Whether that distain is based on skin color, education level or income, we are more likely to build ourselves up by putting someone else down.

    • Welcome to our world.
You got it all right. It is said that humans are most intelligent creature ever walked the Earth, but I think we aren't that smart. We've lost humanity. We've lost so many beautiful things. And most importantly we've gone too far now.
That's why nature rebalancing the world.

      • Agreed. Global warming, a pandemic and we are still hating one another based on arbitrary characteristics instead of finding a way to care and work together

        • 🙁 That's what everyone should think. Lot of chaos is going on in every country. But positivity must prevails.
Stay safe Kristie. And keep smiling 🙂

  • Very informative post , Deepak, and so well expressed. My personal views are that culture is a greater divide than racism. Skin color doesn't seem to matter as much if views, lifestyle and values are in sync. Complicated subject.

    • Indeed, and we all are in trap of this, but our thinking and respect to others really matters
      Much appreciated
      thanks for visiting

  • I don't think our views are different at all, unless you think that this is the nature of human beings, and that's that. Because I agree with all you've said--racism has evolved and grown, it's against many other types, immigrants, and it IS an endless topic now. But maybe our points of view diverge in that I do think things were different in the ancient past; I don't think skin color mattered. I think there was a shift in mentality at a certain point in time, a whitewashing of history, and those lies and manipulated information were exported throughout the world and have been here ever since. And now, I agree, it's evolved into a terrible monster that we all have to fight, like an endless Gozilla that keeps stomping on our people and our towns and cities.

    • Alright. I get it what you said. You mean in ancient times things were different from now. And yeah it can be, that shift in mentality has changed it all.
It spreaded like this virus. And we still don't know if there's any cure for this. And now it's getting more complex.
If that's true then the true history must be told.
      Thanks for sharing your views.

  • I think racism is used and encouraged by people in power and people who want to be in power, who can use racism to divide people, to derail opposition, to build support for parties and candidacies. In my lifetime, I’ve seen racism grow stronger and weaker in response to the political situation. I don’t think it’s at all a given of human nature.

    • Indeed ellen, its true that political stunt usually the cause of many dissimilarity btw the humans, i am agreeing with your thoughts
