The Habit of Reading Can Change Your Life

β€œToday’s a reader, Tomorrow a leader”-

MARGARET FULLER

This quote by Margaret plays a quintessential role in every human’s life. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that reading has made many people’s lives better and stimulated their inner selves, which makes them better people. We are often taught since our childhood that we should build a habit of reading.

Our teachers used to make us aware every time, of the importance of reading for our overall development. And most of us often dodge doing so. As a result, we then realize the importance of reading when someone else digs the flag of excellence.

It has been proven time again if children develop a habit of reading they will always perform better in school, in society, in the future workplace, and mainly in their life. Nonetheless, they also gain self-confidence to tackle every situation that may come.

But it is also true that in the past few years a sharp decline has been seen in reading habits among the young generations and perhaps including you & me. Children whose place of interest used to be comics and magazines in their childhood are now replaced by Virtual games and Nonsense Videos. What is keeping them away from reading?

Reason Why the Habit of Reading Is Declining

In the early days or to be more precise, people in that time seems to be more bibliophiles. They love to read books and the pearls of wisdom and enhance their knowledge. The book used to be the basic need like food and water. If they are unable to afford the book, they love to spend time in the library. Instead of limited resources, the craze for reading books was phenomenal. Collecting books used to be one of the favourite hobbies of readers.

But now we look at the present time, β€œthe percentage of public school students who said they read 30 minutes or more a day, besides homework, declined by 4% points from 53% in 2017 to 49% in 2019”, Surveyed by NAEP. The reason behind the declining interest among students is the rising interest in the unproductive stuff scattered throughout the Internet. We have quoted many times that the internet has made our lives effortless as well as complicated.

Today everything is available on the internet from good stuff to bad stuff. Even the whole internet is crammed with lots of good information. But despite it, a major jump has been seen on social media among children rather than reading books.

Social media has changed the field of good interest among youngsters. As a result, they don’t bother to get eternal knowledge even if available free of cost.

There are many Books/Ebooks available on the internet which have opened many resources for youngsters. But the ease of distractions stops them to complete even one chapter in an ebook. Surprisingly, in this technological world, it is rare that someone downloads an ebook. But, even if he/she does, then after reading for a time they got distracted by a notification.

And hence, the brain signalled them to check the notification immediately, and they became busy scrolling.

Furthermore, there is a large amount of content available on the internet to kill our dear time, like web series, games, etc. People used to prefer watching movies based on a particular book rather than reading that book.

As for me, I still prefer reading Harry Potter books before watching a movie series. Because I know how great it is to dive into the magical world with those books.

Why You Should Start Reading Books? The Good Reason

It is not wrong to say that reading a book has lots of advantages on its own. It provides you with knowledge and lots of information about literally everything. When a writer writes a book he does lots of research and got so absorbed to finish the book. There are many sleepless nights behind every successful book. I hope many of you are aware of Think Grow And Rich by Napolean Hill. The author took 20 years to research and finish the book.

Also, there is one of the famous book series Harry Potter by JK Rowling. The most successful book series took 6 years to complete and became like a family for all of us. Books not only provide us good information and strengthen our knowledge, but it is also like our best friend. Books act as a gate that opens door to a dream world where you can discover your true self.

Reading Books helps us in stabilizing our deep hidden emotions, and also it helps in strengthening our mental muscles. It has been ascertained over time that reading a good book could prevent diseases like Alzheimer’s and help cope with Depression. There are so many people I know and have talked to who have read more than 30 books and told me how these books pull them out of their dark paths.

Reading also helps in building good communication skills. It assists in getting unexplored words and vocabulary which makes your essence different from others. You experience a whole new world.

Every successful people gives credit for their success in reading. For instance:- Bill Gates love to read New books every week, and Giant Elon Musk used to read 10 hours every day before developing Tesla. Warren Buffet read 6 hours daily, and Tony Robbins told in an interview that he had read 700 books in seven years.

Also reading books helps you to shape your identity, reading good books opens various options in front of you. The more you read the more you will learn, it helps you to understand the world and the universe better. Books always uplift your motivation whenever you are sad and will be your best friend while others are busy in this busy world. The habit of reading can indeed change your life.

Let’s Celebrate This World Book Day 2022

World Book Day also known as World Book and Copyright Day or International Day of the Book is celebrated on 23rd April every year. It is an annual event organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization to promote reading, publishing, and copyright.

It is a celebration for all those who love to read and also is a celebration to promote the enjoyment of books and reading. Every year we celebrate this day to bridge the gap between illiteracy and learning. In many areas around the world still, children are unaware of getting good knowledge and access to books. Some do have not enough wealth to afford school and some are bound to work for a livelihood at the age of having books in their hands.

It is a remarkable day in world literature because, on that day legends like William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. Later on, At UNESCO General Conference, held in Paris in 1995, the world decided to pay tribute to books and authors on this date.

On this day we at Aspiring Blog pray that no children became away from reading and getting knowledge. Everyone has the right to read and learn to make their life better. The decline in reading that we have seen may convert positively and many more children would read.

There is a famous quote by Kofi Aman- β€œLiteracy is a bridge from misery to hope” It defines the importance of literacy and learning.

Kudos to all of you readers, writers, and bloggers as well. You all are the reason why so many people found an interest in habit of reading & writing. Thanks for doing good deeds.

On this World Book Day let’s take a pledge to develop a habit of reading a book and make the world read by your writing.

  • Thank you a brilliant post. I have been an avid reader my whole life and I personally feel Enriched. Sadness for me now because the next generation particularly grandkids think reading books is dead. They are computer adept in every way but literature poor. As a creative Writer this has been a sadness as reading and writing have been my twin life passions.
