Unsung Highway Heroes

I hope you are enjoying our blogs and keeping safe yourself from this pandemic.
Dear all I’m back with another interesting life experience blog.
A catchy trip with my father along with my father’s employee. That inspired me to write something on Unsung Highway Heroes.

And that day I got to know about another edge of the fighters because if we recall our memory, teachers taught us human being with a firearm are real hero( no doubt), television attracts towards power rangers, ben 10, famous Chota bheem in India which we often think that they will save us.

Movies taught us AVENGERS, are the superheroes I don’t know where they are during this pandemic.
But I know some heroes we probably don’t know about. But their stories and struggle are real. So I think it must be known to the world.

Recalling my road trip, I, my father, and my father’s worker, we trio were leaving for Uttar Pradesh(State in India). Accidentally our mode of transport deteriorated, so we asked a truck driver passing by to drop us off at our destination.

But I found something I didn’t expect. There was a different world inside the truck. I became astounded because our society teaches us to call the driver or a fourth-class person but his hospitality was a million times better than a rich. He simply smiles over me and calls me chotu(small boy) and then he furnishes me with coke because outside was so hot and we were seeming dull.

I was seeing my father’s talk with ustad Ji(a proud name for the on-road heroes).

Ustad Ji was coming from a continuous 6 hour trip with 4 hours still remaining. A total of 10 hours of nonstop driving doesn’t seem easy, Right? But yes, this is an easy trip for them because an average ride of an Indian truck driver is 12 to 14 hours on the highway or 1.8 thousand kilometers round trip in about seven days on average.

Family of on-road heroes.

In the course of round trips, barely they can spend time with loved ones, But the truck staff becomes their family member and even passerby like us as their guest.

Key products

One small gas stove, using back seat as their bed, one blanket, no AC, a big stereo where melodies of old 90’s Kishore Kumar(legendary Indian singer) songs play on a loop, a small place for worship, and many more are fellows for them.

Their mom’s kitchen

In the vacate highways it seems tough for them to eat from their mother’s hand, so the roadside dhaba’s are their mom’s kitchen and the khat ( a cot) is a dinning table.

Decorative trucks

The trucks were introduced in 1940 during world war II by the Britishers of brand name Bedford for military cargo, but the trend remains in India and now we can see millions of trucks are adorning Indian highways.

But what’s the motive behind those decorative Trucks?

I asked this to my truck ustaad and he responded 👇.

For spiritual belief:

Have you ever noticed eagle printed on Indian trucks? The eagle stands for speed and precision and it is also a symbol of Sikh religion Guru Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and many more.

For remembering family and their roots:

The painting at the back reminds them their roots and family

Most of the ustad’s and their students belong to villages and before the pre-digital era, the art like (a woman lifting her baby in the dock while filling the water, Farmers sitting under trees waiting for the crop to ripen, playing children’s ) these all give them nostalgic feelings, but this trend still follows.

For warnings too:

“Horn ok please” the famous quote written on the back of the trucks helps them in riding freely, and the catchy slogans like Dum hai to cross kar, varna bardasht kar” – Overtake me if you have the balls, or else tolerate being stuck behind my ass.

All I can say that whatever I saw or experienced was an amazing event of my life with ustad Ji, he shared amazing memories.

I was not carrying a smartphone that time so I can’t take his photo but calling them driver, treated them as a servant I don’t think is justice for them, all the basic amenities are provided only trough them even during this #pandemic #corona they are fighting for us, many ustads (truck drivers) affected with corona because they are busy giving services for the nation so I think there is a separate identity of ustads and not even they all the peoples required the equal respects.

I hope you like this blog,, if yes then do like, comment on your experiences, I would love to read your feedback. Do subscribe also.

    • Indeed we often abuse them which is not good & inhuman act. I'm glad you liked my blog❣❣❤

  • Thanks for sharing their stories , we have so many unsung heroes out there, working so hard, sacrificing so much yet most of society don’t see them nor appreciate . It’s time to change all that . Stay safe🙏

    • Indeed. They are the real heroes as well as an important pillar of any country. They deserve much better than what they are getting today.

    • I am glad you like the blog❤❣, and we have to change our mindset and must start giving respect to them🤗

  • Thank you for sharing this touching and insightful story Deepak.

Actions alone, not social status, income, position, title, talent, skill, etc. speak with genuine veracity of the authenticity of one's heart. Be you an ustad, airline pilot, pauper or prince, Scripture tell us God is not a respecter of persons, but of the heart of each and every precious soul.

Would that all of us would grasp the beauty of the unique creation within each person we share this planet with.

    • Absolutely true words Fred. Every creature in this planet have some uniqueness in them. No social status or income decides who you are, it's your action or deeds.

    • I am glad that you like this blog ❤❣😊 and im agree with your words and we should treat everyone equally with due respect ❣🙏

    • absolutely dear, there are many heroes in our surrounding which are incomplete without our appreciations. and thanks a lot for such a beautiful feedback.

  • Very well organized post and you used examples to show for your conclusions. I like the lesson you shared, the gift that you learned in your experience was not to judge people by their work. That is wonderful, truly special that you know this. Some people never learn this lesson. People are not their jobs, that is only what they do for work. Thank you for sharing your experience.

    • Ofcourse, it's the sad reality that always exist with humanity, that people often judge others just by their work & clothes. But if one look deeply into their heart, sometimes they're actually not what they seems.

    • Thankyou very much ❣for such an amazing feedback ⚘ i love to see such a beautiful comment from your side❣ and i will do my best to write better and will try to bring more life experiences❤🥰

    • My pleasure❤ i am grateful that you liked the post, indeed there are many unsung heroes in our surroundings ❤

  • Our interstate highways are set up well for large transportation between cities so I often admire the efficiency by which they perform their driving tasks. They are heroes to me.

    • Indeed usfman, our highways are made to speed up the task but our labour laws are not so much updated which can give them relief, they are real super heroes for me also❤, and Thankyou for the beautiful comment 😊🤗❤❣

  • I love this post. Much interesting info I did not know. I did once have a very kind experience with an American Ustad. It was about 30 years ago. There was a heavy snow storm resulting in many accidents. My car ended up in a ditch. The highway was closed down. One of the truckers welcomed me to take shelter in his truck. I was scared to do that but freezing was the alternative since my car would not start. So I accepted his invitation. I was surprised to see that the inside of his truck was very clean and almost like a studio apartment. It was warm because his truck was running. The trucker told me that this is his home away from home because he spends so much time on the road away from his family. The trucker turned out to be a very kind person.

Through out the night, many emergency vehicles came and went, but they had to deal with the injured first. Thanks to the trucker, I had a safe and warm place until my car and I could be towed to the nearest service station the next morning. I was then able to make a phone call. You see this was before there were any cell phones.

Anyway, I haven't thought of this incident for a long time. Your post reminded me of it, so I decided to share it. 🙏

    • Very interesting story, and aspiringblog respect those 'ustad' who always make themselves ready to help others, we are happy that our post helped you to remind about that great man who helped you that day,,❤and thanks for reading and giving your time.

    • This is such an amazing story of yours. And I'm thinking how kind hearted that truck driver was, these people really deserves a huge shoutout.
Don't know why people hesitates to respect them? May be due to their work or some stereotypes.
But anyway this 30 years old story also proves that they are the real Heroes among us. 🙂 #respect
