We often use proverbs/Idioms to make the conversation more philosophical, meaningful, or sarcastic in a way, or sometimes just to show off and just to look cool in front of others. But what if I tell you that these proverbs/idioms aren’t universal. Or you should not use them.
In fact, we also get familiar with these from our parents or grandparents or the culture and society in which we were raised. And today we just copy and paste these sayings into almost everything. But there is something that you need to think about before believing them.
I’m not saying that being optimistic is wrong. But this is actually not what it seems. Be realistic. I agree proverbs are wise sayings that give life advice. There is a proverb for almost any situation. But if you look closely, you find that these proverbs are themselves contradict each other.
And should we know the fact that proverbs/idioms we all are using are universally applicable? or not, Is there any authenticity of these proverbs? or they are just based on a particular situation.
If you’re still not getting it, let me take an example. It’s going to be super fun also.
You probably heard from people, your parents, motivational speakers, and even from mutual fund agencies saying that:-
“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet”
This means keeping patience is everything. Hold yourself and wait for the right moment to get your sweet i.e., your reward. If that’s true then why it is also said that:-
“Tomorrow Never Comes”
This means what you have to do or what you have to get, do, or get it right away. Stop looking for tomorrow.
Here’s another one. You may also hear that:-
“Do good and cast it into the river”
Which I think is good and ethical, cause that’s what society wants and your inner satisfaction too. But let’s make this contradict with:
“Give and Take is a fair play”
That isn’t fair huh! with all these contradictions. What to do? you decide.
Alright, this one is my favorite & kind of sarcastic too. Recently one of my friends came up to me and in between conversations he said something like:
“A good beginning makes a good ending”
To which I replied:-
“There’s always a calm before storm”
Although, It doesn’t mean that I’m a pessimist. What I said is just what I learned from society. If they made it contradictory what can I do? Here’s another one.
There’s a popular saying that:-
“What is looted can’t be blotted”
But if that’s true then why do motivational speakers always insist that:-
“Perseverance never fails or unfruitful”
It means reality is often different. You can’t just take one path to decide your life.
Isn’t it all complicated? We don’t even know what is right or wrong? We are just accepting things that society tells us. They also told us
“Cut your coat according to your cloth”
This means being happy with what you have. You’re blessed some don’t even have that. I agree but what about the parents who compare their children with their class toppers. Maybe because:
“Grass on the other side always look greener”
I also agree that if you want to do something great then you must know your higher competitors.
“Many hands make light work”
But they didn’t tell us that many hands come up with many heads and:
“Many heads Many minds”
Haha! Just wordplay. The choice is yours.
I think you’re getting it now that sometimes proverbs or saying aren’t universal. They are situational. Don’t fall for it as your situation may differ from what society wants you to see. Think smart.
So, before I end. Here’s the last one for you
“Everyone wants to go to Heaven, but no one wants to Die”
May be Because
“Life is better than the bags of gold”

Lol yeaa, I always thought something was off — but again I believe that there’s always two sides to EVERYTHING.
That balance is what life depends on.
June 21, 2020 at 5:45 pm
Woah! You got it right.
I also tried to focus that whatever the society told you is situational.
Only you can decide what to do.
And thanks for reading ✌
June 21, 2020 at 5:46 pm
Yes, true that!
A pleasure 😄
June 21, 2020 at 5:47 pm
Cheers..
June 21, 2020 at 6:22 pm
amazing work.
June 21, 2020 at 7:46 pm
Thank you.
June 21, 2020 at 8:46 pm
This was fun to read!
June 21, 2020 at 9:08 pm
I’m happy you enjoyed.
June 21, 2020 at 9:42 pm
Loved the lines ” to show off and to just look cool in front of others”… Enjoyed reading…
June 21, 2020 at 10:06 pm
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed.
Visit our other blogs too, You won’t regret.
June 22, 2020 at 9:29 pm
Many of those idioms and proverbs I’ve never even heard before!
June 22, 2020 at 9:59 pm
Hope you know them know.
Actually these proverbs are quite famous in my country or society.
But Later I realise that these are just situational not universal.
So I made this post
Thanks for coming. ✌
June 23, 2020 at 9:34 am
I enjoyed this post. Nice explanation and founded the contradtictions correctly.
June 23, 2020 at 10:09 am
Ya I’m good at finding the contradictions 😂
June 23, 2020 at 11:20 am
Ha ha…😁
June 24, 2020 at 12:23 pm
Great post, but I’m not seeing the “like” button of which you speak. Perhaps it’s just me?
June 24, 2020 at 12:30 pm
Hi there!
Are you reading this blog on WordPress readers section or somewhere else?
Anyway you visited and appreciate that’s enough for me.
June 24, 2020 at 12:44 pm
I’m coming directly to your blog, not using the Reader. It appears that there have been some issues lately if folks don’t use the Reader, which feels like poor planning on the WordPress programmers part, but who am I to judge? I like what you have on your blog, so let’s see how it works out… 😉
June 24, 2020 at 2:18 pm
Yes it may. But whatever that’s it what we have now. And really thanks for coming here.
It’s not about judging. If you feel something could be more better you can reach out to them. 🙂
June 24, 2020 at 12:41 pm
Nice blog!
June 24, 2020 at 2:19 pm
Thanks buddy ✌
June 24, 2020 at 2:20 pm

June 24, 2020 at 2:22 pm
Alright. I would love to.
Cheers
June 25, 2020 at 7:07 pm
laughed so hard
June 25, 2020 at 8:27 pm
Then why didn’t you put that laughing emoji? 😀😐
June 26, 2020 at 7:19 pm
So true! I’ve always thought of the same too. For eg- ek se bhale do(better 2 than 1), the hindi proverb, while the opposite is seen in English-too many cooks spoil the broth. Such a great observation!😄
June 26, 2020 at 7:39 pm
Yeah! That one too 😂
Here’s another one:-
Empty handed we came
Empty hand we’ll go.
To which I think that it doesn’t matter what you’re taking with you.
But it’s matter what you are leaving behind you.
Anyway we earn for our family not for ourselves. 🙂
Just society thing.
But Thankyou for coming. ✌
June 26, 2020 at 7:42 pm
So true!😄My pleasure, truly. You have got some amazing posts.😊
June 26, 2020 at 10:08 pm
Interesting and inspiring quotes. Very profound post.
June 26, 2020 at 10:22 pm
Thank you.
Hope you read the contradictions along with quotes. 😀
June 26, 2020 at 10:25 pm
Welcome Ritesh and yes I did but let us think nice and positive in the contradictions too.
June 26, 2020 at 10:28 pm
Ofcourse that’s what I do. 🙂 Otherwise world is enough to make you feel bad.
Stay safe & cheers ✌
June 26, 2020 at 10:29 pm
Yes Ritesh I truly understand but let us see goodness in badness because as our Masters say we are in a world of illusion and there is going to be opposites and badness too is a small version of goodness. You too stay safe and take care.
June 27, 2020 at 6:55 am
True words indeed.
Thank you
June 27, 2020 at 9:03 am
You are always welcome
June 26, 2020 at 11:59 pm

June 29, 2020 at 3:05 pm
Life’s full of contradictions, isn’t it? Funny how things aren’t always what they seem…..🤔
June 29, 2020 at 4:53 pm
Yes, reality is often different.
Don’t always fall for people’s words. That’s what I always think.
June 30, 2020 at 10:03 pm

July 1, 2020 at 11:20 pm
Excellent here’s a couple from England do you know of them?
Pride comes before a fall
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
A stitch in time saves nine
Don’t cry over spilt milk
Every cloud has a silver lining 😊
July 2, 2020 at 10:16 am
Yeah I heard ’em. And especially the last one, that we need to understand in 2020.
Every country & culture have their own sayings. The fact is all of them have some contradictions too.
Have a good day Charlotte 🙂
July 3, 2020 at 7:53 pm
True
July 4, 2020 at 9:46 am
I’ve not heard most of these. That’s odd. It’s neat to know some new sayings. Another: “A stitch in time saves nine.”
July 4, 2020 at 10:09 am
These are quite famous in my country though.
And ofcourse I’ve heard this one too.
Happy to see you here. Cheers ✌
July 4, 2020 at 5:23 pm
Those old-timers had neat sayings. I wonder if the younger generations will make new ones. Pleasure to visit
🙂
July 4, 2020 at 7:33 pm
And I wonder new ones will be the contradict with old ones.
World is changing so rapidly, we can’t hold with just one definition.
And I really enjoyed your blogs too about God’s beautiful creature lizard. Your blogs are very unique and interesting.
😉
July 4, 2020 at 10:48 am
I have always liked proverbs. Thank you for a fun post!
Here’s a nother contradictory pair:
Better safe than sorry!
Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
Stay safe and happy.
Cheryl
July 4, 2020 at 12:56 pm
Yes this one too.
Actually the whole thing is contradiction 😁
Have a great day.. friend
July 7, 2020 at 7:40 am
Very true Ritish 👍
July 7, 2020 at 9:54 am
Thanks Dilip
July 7, 2020 at 10:46 pm
Aphorisms capture a particle of truth. But they do not apply in all circumstances. As you say, life is too complex to be boiled down to a single observation.
July 8, 2020 at 9:37 am
That’s why I never trust blindly of what society told us.
Truth are often different.
July 11, 2020 at 6:10 pm
I really have some fun while reading your thoughts here! They are amazing connection of ideas in a wonderful way. Keep on sharing! Stay blessed!
July 11, 2020 at 8:45 pm
I’m glad you enjoyed.
Keep smiling and have fun
July 19, 2020 at 4:14 pm
Fun post.
(and who said, ‘reality is perception’!! there, in your post… proof that: ” Reality is a stage and all the proverbs mere cue cards“)
July 19, 2020 at 5:00 pm
It may. Well Clark it’s just my perception. I’m not a philosopher, just a random thought crosses my mind.
And thankyou for reading..
July 19, 2020 at 8:02 pm
Interesting one!
July 19, 2020 at 8:29 pm
Thankyou 💜
July 20, 2020 at 12:12 am
“Don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today”
“Haste makes waste.”
July 20, 2020 at 6:08 pm
Yes 😂😂
That one too..
Btw what would you like to choose between them? 😁
July 21, 2020 at 12:05 am
If it’s something enjoyable, I’d do it today – but if it’s something creative, my perfectionism would keep me working on fine tuning it for days.
July 21, 2020 at 10:04 am
Well that’s the perfect definition, I was expecting.
Enjoy your day then ✌
August 6, 2020 at 1:22 pm
These are just said to inspire and drive us through situations(Make everything your way LOL😂😂😂)…It’s good you found such amazing contradictions…Nice one
August 6, 2020 at 4:50 pm
Haha. I know.
But sometimes people blindly fall for them without analysing.
May be these contradicts help them in a way 😂😂
August 14, 2020 at 7:09 pm

I think proverbs were made for a specific context.
January 24, 2021 at 11:38 am
Not only proverbs but even advice we receive too. And I just posted an article about that also. Thanks for reading.
January 24, 2021 at 2:23 pm

November 2, 2021 at 10:14 am
