Every year I wait for winter to come just because I consider this to be the best season of all. After a long tiring and annoying summer, the breeze air that I feel on my face at the start of November is other-worldly.
Someone said it right, “Winter isn’t a season, it’s an emotion”
Why do I adore winter so much? There isn’t any specific reason for that. I also know so many of you won’t agree with me here.
As I asked one of you guys- What’s your favourite season? He said, ‘Summertime’. And, it’s easy to understand where he comes from.
I fully understand how summers mean a lot and how overwhelming it is to feel the sunlight on the face, especially the people living in the northern hemisphere. The magic I feel when the breeze air touches my soul might be the same for them when sun rays brighten their life after long and cold nights.
The reason why I started liking winters can easily be understood. As I’m from India, here winter lasts only for 2-3 months and the summertime is something annoying & tiring as per my experience. Honestly, I don’t enjoy it as much as I enjoy other seasons of the year. The high temperature, piercing bright sun rays, and sweat all over the body are enough to make anyone irritable easily.
So all summer I await winters. Because-
Winter Is Awesome
First of all, it’s the cold and foggy mornings. It makes me feel heavenly. I love wandering around in chilly mystic winds.
And, what can be more relaxing than having a cup of coffee in your hand while sitting on the balcony under the benevolent winter sun? It’s too restful.
I love rubbing my hand. No more sweat. A daily shower is no longer mandatory.
Winter is the perfect time to get cosy. There is never a shortage of things you can do in winter like taking an ice bath, having holiday parties, or cooking big meals with the family?
And, who even hates bonfires? Just huddle together and enjoy your friends and family, share those old weird stories and pass lame jokes on each other.
That’s the best part about winters. You can sense the warmth even in the cold. The warmth of love. Doesn’t this count as magic?
For magic? Did I mention Harry Potter vibes? Of course, it is the perfect time to live in the ambience of the magical world. All those fantasies seem to come true right in front of the eyes. It’s like you are living the life you dreamt of.
There is magic in the winter’s night. If you don’t believe it, just walk outside and look up at the sky. I bet all your worries will evaporate right there. All those mysteries above in the cold, dark and shiny nights that are waiting to be found.
Light is never as beautiful as it is during the most extreme times of the year. The starlight we get in winter is breathtaking. For those who live in the Northern Hemisphere, have you ever seen the Northern light dancing in the sky? It is beyond beautiful.
Since I started loving winter, I’ve gained a new perspective on it. I’ve never seen snow in my life, only a handful of times have I ever felt temperature below freezing. But if you can see, I still bear that smile on my face in winter as if I’m seeing snow for the first time.
One thing I do get to know about winters is that you may not be surrounded by mountains filled with snow. But winter has something for you all, no matter where you are.
Despite all the Christmas mood, more recently I also got to know about winter festivals like Hanukkah & Kwanzaa. It’s so interesting to know about these traditional festivals celebrated in different parts of the world.
Even after all this, I still don’t understand why we signify winter as a season of depression and loneliness. Call me crazy but I love winter more than any other season.
The list of things you can do to handle the darkness is endless. All we need is to accept and adapt to the cycle of nature.
By saying this, I think I should also start loving the summer as much as I love the winter season. Both have their own challenges and benefits.
The difference between summer and winter isn’t about right and wrong. It’s just a god-gifted nature to us humans. And, we should learn to live with it by honouring the cycle of our bodies and nature.
So, what’s your favourite season? And how do you celebrate winter?

When the difference between seasons is not as clearly defined in my East Coast Inland part of Oz. Every season has its own unique blessings and stresses. Christmas Is sometimes so steamy hot adapting to salads and unique ice-cream Christmas Puddings while adding prawns to turkey and carved leg ham etc, and enjoying maybe eating it outside under a tree. Long ago as a child I learnt to adapt. No SNOW ever. I never even saw snow until I was 20. Thank God He came at His Birth as one of us. His death makes us all brothers and sisters in every climate and to every tribe and language. I love best the days in early Summer before it gets too steamy and the days in late winter and early Spring when there is life and hope on the wind, Being grateful for EVERY DAY now I am getting older is my personal goal, TO EVERYONE in your blogging sphere I wish you wherever you may be, the LIGHT of HOPE that is Christmas for you and those you love, May it shine on you.

What a beautiful comment Faye and what a beautiful message at the end.
I’m learning enjoying every season and every day. But I wish I can also see the snow, this beautiful gift of nature.
Thanks Faye for your time writing this comment. My warmest wishes for you and your family. Hope you have a great time. ❣🙌

Omg! Finally, someone who gets it. I LOATHE Summer. I grew up in the Tampa Bay area of Florida and I’ve tolerated about 48 Summers in Florida. I’ve been sick of the heat for two dozen years. I LOVE Winter and Fall. I lived in Portland, Oregon for seven years and I positively love the gloom and the associated coffeehouses. God, I miss Portland so much. I miss the snow and the snow-capped mountains. Florida IS beautiful, but I just love Fall and Winter. Thank you for writing this.❤️🩹❤️🩹🍁🌓❄️❄️☃️💦🌧
December 12, 2021 at 3:35 pm
We share the same thoughts. I do adore both winter and fall more than any other. They’re my favourite season ❣
Hope you relieve and cherish the snowfall soon.
Though wishing me the same as well 😄
I wish you a lot of happy winter’s time spent with your family, Happy Winter!

December 12, 2021 at 3:21 pm
Winter is my favorite season as well but I guess I should follow this now more than ever, “All we need is to accept and adapt to the cycle of nature.”
December 12, 2021 at 3:39 pm
Thanks Siyanda.
Yes, we should start enjoying every season and every flavour of it.
(But still, I would prefer winter) 😄❣
December 12, 2021 at 3:45 pm
“A daily shower is no longer mandatory.” Enlightening! I never knew that guys cared to take a shower, in any kind of weather 🤣😜 Just kidding!
On a serious note, the depression associated with winter, SAD (seasonal affective disorder) is a real mental disorder and I guess partly curable. We may not experience that in India due to our winters not being thaaat long.
Where I live, there are 3 seasons-summer, extreme summer, extreeeeemmeee summmeerr. Now we’re at the first kind, so it’s very pleasant and chill most parts of the day 😅 Summers are Frustrating, really. Like you, I really look forward to late Novembers and Decembers because that is when one can live in peace 😭 God really did my place injustice by keeping it hot all the time! You’re lucky to be living in the North. Extremely. (Atleast when it comes to seasons).
December 12, 2021 at 6:50 pm
Haha 😄
Yeah, we take showers though we looks great anyway 😅 btw is that a compliment?
I do know about SAD, therefore I mentioned it already, I know how overwhelming it is to get a sunlight for some people that we may never realise unless we live there.
And yeah, we may be lucky to be living in North and enjoying the winter but it is just the one thing. We are really missing out some great things that you enjoyed in the south. Its just a fact and matter of time.
Thanks for the comment, Sam.
And, happy winter! do consider visiting north especially in this season. ❄🙌
December 12, 2021 at 7:22 pm
Do you know how many times I’ve visited Kashmir and Himachal at this time of the year…. in my dreams 😅
You should visit the South too, at any time of the year. Only reason would be cleaner air 🤪 Cleaner than Delhi and Mumbai for sure. (Atleast). We have the benefit of being surrounded by Sea 🤩
December 12, 2021 at 9:14 pm
Haha 😀
Hope your dreams come true soon.
And hope I get a chance to visit South away from polluted air ofcourse. 😅
South is beautiful and pleasant. ❣
Especially it’s people and traditions.
And food….🤤
December 12, 2021 at 9:15 pm
FOOD! That one 4 lettered word that should actually bring you down here!
December 12, 2021 at 9:16 pm
Alright. I’m coming now…..
December 12, 2021 at 6:50 pm
Fall is my favourite season, followed by spring, summer and then winter. There are definitely things I like about winter—like going for a walk after a fresh snowfall, and seeing the snow hanging in the trees. The problem with winter in Canada is it goes on forever. I could tolerate a couple of months, but by the time we get to month 5 or 6 of winter weather, I’m done!
December 12, 2021 at 7:14 pm
Fall is beautiful and magical too.
I fully understand what you’re saying about winter.
Anything in excessive might not be good. But no doubt, Canada is such a beautiful for someone like me to spend a winter vacation and especially in northwest territories.
As here winter last only for 2-3 months only, but no snow. So I’m really missing out on something.
December 12, 2021 at 7:44 pm
A beautiful meditation on winter. Thank you, Ritish!
December 12, 2021 at 8:58 pm
Thanks for this beautiful comment, Wynne.
Enjoy winter 🙌❣
December 12, 2021 at 7:49 pm
Love your points on winter. Our earth is magnificent in all seasons! I would never want to live in a place that didn’t have 4 distinct seasons. I love them all, but Fall is my favorite for many reasons.
December 12, 2021 at 9:04 pm
Here we have 6 seasons 😄
Hope you would like to visit here as well.
Btw I do love fall too, it’s also a favorite season for so many people.
You’re right, we should embrace all the seasons. Such a beautiful gift to us.
Happy Winter, Dennis. Hope you’re having a good time❣🙌
December 12, 2021 at 8:45 pm
I don’t like the cold weather, I’d rather be where it stays in the 65-70 degree range
I have been in a lot of weather patterns across the states & spring is my favorite 1
if I could find a place that has that all year I SURE WOULD MOVE THERE. 👍
December 12, 2021 at 9:10 pm
I understand. We have our own reasons for liking anything.
Spring is pleasant too and perfect time to take a week off.
If I ever get a chance I would like to visit different parts of the world in different seasons. It would be wonderful.
Happy Winter. ❄❣
December 12, 2021 at 9:35 pm
When I use to be on the truck
with my husband we had to
go through different states &
1 state would be nice & cool
where a few states over would
be warm & I ended up with
walking ammonia sick as a dog.
December 13, 2021 at 9:34 am
Haha! You’re jumping over seasons in a truck.
That’s quite interesting to know
December 13, 2021 at 4:12 pm
yea you could say that ha ha ha never
thought about it that way but your right.
December 13, 2021 at 7:51 pm
Haha! 😄
December 12, 2021 at 10:38 pm
There is just something about chilly wind crawling on my skin which i just can’t tolerate 😫
Plus winters =spinach season and i am no popoeye …….
And all i wanna be in this season is “sleeping beauty ” 😴 although this factor isn’t only winter specific but you got the gist right….
December 13, 2021 at 9:36 am
Yes, this is the right place.
Just watched popeye yesterday, completely forget about him.
That morning sleep in winter is paradise 😴
December 13, 2021 at 6:05 pm
Haha 😄
You can thank me for the instant punch of nostalgia then…
December 13, 2021 at 7:48 pm
Haha! Definitely. Thanks!
You made me watch long forgotten cartoons 🤣
December 13, 2021 at 2:40 pm
Winters are my favourite 🙂
December 13, 2021 at 3:16 pm
That’s wonderful.

Loved your thoughts and your poems.
Enjoy the season and stay warm!
❤️
December 13, 2021 at 7:47 pm

Thanks Cindy ❣
Happy Winter!

Snow add more warmth to the winter. Isn’t it?
December 13, 2021 at 9:40 pm

December 14, 2021 at 12:33 pm
💖
December 14, 2021 at 12:56 am
I’ve never heard anyone fluff up winters like this, but its an interesting perspective lol
December 14, 2021 at 9:26 am
Was thinking the same while writing this 😄😄
But I just said what I always feel in winter. There’s something magic in winter. Btw, what’s your perspective about it?
December 14, 2021 at 4:50 pm
That its piercingly cold, terribly miserable, and horribly wet (I live in England).
And the prospect of snow just gives me nightmares😂
December 14, 2021 at 6:54 pm
Oh wow! 🤣🤣
But, I understand how summers means to people living in northern hemisphere.
So, I don’t argue.
But I would highly recommend you to see this video to change your perspective about Winter – https://youtu.be/3zTR4ayDG38
And I’m sure you’re gonna like it. 🤞
December 14, 2021 at 5:27 am
Ah, hello spring!
December 14, 2021 at 9:29 am
Spring is pleasant and charming 🙌❣
December 15, 2021 at 3:15 am
It’s my favorite season.
December 15, 2021 at 9:27 am
I like the pleasant sunny days of spring. They’re relaxing.
What about you?
December 14, 2021 at 8:07 pm
Wonderfully-written, well-chosen topic, Ritish! Oh, I hope you do get to experience snow! It is fantastically beautiful and transforms the world around you to a magical place. After a big snow, it takes a while for the hustle and bustle to resume. It is very quiet and the air is fresh. Perfect time to take a walk! When you breathe, you can see your breath like a misty cloud. Snow on evergreens sparkles in the sunlight. Build a snowman, have a snowball fight, ride downhill on a sled, ski, and take lots of beautiful photos!
I used to love snow days off from school and work, but I certainly do not miss scraping ice off the windshield or driving on slippery roads! I am old and achey enough that I am glad to enjoy the cold in nostalgic memories and movies 🙂 Go while you’re young, Ritish! <3
December 15, 2021 at 9:39 am
I love this commnent.❣ I love magical world, if snow can create one for me, I’m in. I want to see that misty clouds. I want that snowman waving at me. I want to capture all the magical moments.
The way you described it have raised my curiosity and excitement to the next level. Thank-you so much, Cheryl.🙌
Wishing you a good health.
Hope that nostalgic memories never fade away and continue to motivate you to enjoy the life with your loved ones every day. ❣
December 22, 2021 at 9:55 am
A lovely essay on the season. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas! With love, A. <3
December 22, 2021 at 3:33 pm
Thank you for your kind wishes, Anna. ❣
Wishing you a lovely Christmas and winter season and a very Happy New Year!
December 27, 2021 at 11:06 am
I used to love winters when I lived in Japan, because of the snow. But now that I’m in South Africa, I hate it because it just means higher electricity bills, cold rain and extreme cold… it isn’t as cold as Japan, but the way houses are built here doesn’t quite keep the cold out… so it sucks 😅
December 27, 2021 at 9:07 pm
Its alright if you hate it now. It depends on the places where we are living. And you’re right snow is one of the reason why I adore winter.
But I’m sure winter has something for you all, no matter where you lives.
You just need to find that and you’ll start loving it. 😀
Happy Winters and New year.
January 6, 2022 at 6:09 pm
Falls and Winters are my favourite seasons. I don’t like to wake up in the morning in winters and I feel sleepy till noon. I like autumn because it’s not so cold and not so hot. I also like summers and Monsoon. In summers, we get 2 months holidays and in monsoon, I love getting wet in the rain. So, I love all the seasons in some or the other way.
January 6, 2022 at 9:03 pm
It’s good you accept and adapt the cycle of nature. I have to agree, every season has its own values and challenges.
I find my own perspectives and reasons for winter that’s why I just adore it. For me winner morning is cozy and magical. Its calming.
Thanks for your comment.
January 7, 2022 at 8:30 am
Thank you Ritish
January 6, 2022 at 6:53 pm
Hi, Ritish, this is a lovely tribute to Winter. You’re right, connecting to natural cycles is important. In my youth, I loved Summer, probably because it was a time of long school breaks in which my family went on vacation. Now that I’m older, I don’t tolerate heat as well, and Autumn is my favorite; the mild temperatures and the colored leaves are amazing. Winter is lovely here too. We receive about 100 inches of snow a year, making this one of the snowiest places in the country! It is common for us to get 3 feet at a time, and it is absolutely beautiful on the trees, boulders, and the 12,000 foot mountains nearby. There is a gentle quietness to a snow-covered landscape that can’t be described. Wishing you continued joy throughout your favorite season! 🌞
January 7, 2022 at 9:41 am
Thanks Lisa.
You’re right, Summer vacations is everyone’s favourite. Although, I adore winter more than any other season, but I know one thing every season has something beautiful to offer. I’ve never seen snow in my life, but on winter temperature can fall as low as 1°
There is breeze and magical ambience everywhere. There’s a calmness in winter nights. I just love watching deep sky on winter. Its just all amazing.
How beautiful for you to live in a place with snow and mountains. I know there would be challenges as well. But, good to hear you enjoy and adapt this beautiful cycle of nature. ❣🙌
May 24, 2022 at 7:05 am
I enjoy winter, as well. Where do you live? I’m in northern New York State. I’m looking at Canada right now from where I’m sitting. Sometimes we do not see the temperature rise above zero for almost the whole month of January. Yet, I am ok with the weather, because it helps me to appreciate the spring. I prefer the cooler summers, and this is why I retired to this region. I am a totally a winter person! Great post, BTW.
May 24, 2022 at 10:38 am
Hi! fellow winter person. Winter holds a special place in my heart because of so many reasons. I lives in Northern part of India. Here the winter last for 2-3 months only. But I always overjoyed this short span of every year. The morning breeze air with a decent sunlight its just amazing.
You’re right too, winter indeed helps to appreciate spring.
Thanks for sharing your thought about winter. Much appreciated.
November 16, 2022 at 2:05 am
Such relatable thoughts! So many of us can agree! Although my husband never wants to go back to any state that has snow, as he refuses to have to shovel sidewalks and/or dig his car out of snow ever again, lol.
But you said it perfectly above: a brisk breeze with the sun still shining… it’s SO refreshing, so revitalizing, isn’t it?!
November 16, 2022 at 6:11 pm
Yeah, there is a lot of problem with snow too. But I can’t say much as I’m not that experienced with snowfalls. Here the temperatures sometimes fall below freezing but no snow. But I love that too, the morning breeze feels magical. I love winter more than any other season. It’s good to hear you too enjoy winter as much as I do.
Wishing you the best winter this year, Stacey. 💗❄
November 17, 2022 at 12:19 am
Same to you, Ritish!
November 17, 2022 at 2:43 pm
❤️🙌
December 16, 2022 at 4:49 pm
I like that living where I do that I can experience all the seasons. I do enjoy being able to wear warmer clothes, however my chronic pain condition is made worse during winter, so it is not my favourite. Thank you for sharing your thoughts though.
Lauren – bournemouthgirl
December 17, 2022 at 5:55 pm
I can understand there are so many difficulties with winter as well. It’s not a favourite for all. But good to hear you enjoy being where you are. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Lauren. Much appreciated!
January 19, 2024 at 1:10 am
I’m another one from Canada, and I agree winter is very beautiful. The coldest days seem to have the brightest sun and the most colourful sunrises/sunsets. However, as a previous Canadian commenter said, winter tends to drag its feet here. Yet, there’s nothing like being out in the cold then coming inside to a cup of hot chocolate. 🙂
January 20, 2024 at 1:06 pm
I get where you’re coming from. And absolutely, those vibrant sunrises and sunsets are truly magical, aren’t they? ❤️ And you’ve nailed it – there’s nothing cozier than warming up with a cup of hot chocolate after braving the cold.🍁❄️
February 9, 2024 at 12:54 am
I live in Ohio in the United States. It’s the perfect place to enjoy all four seasons of the year as each one has its beauty.
February 9, 2024 at 2:20 pm
That’s so cool that you get to experience all four seasons in Ohio. I bet each one has something unique to offer.
July 10, 2024 at 8:00 am
To each his own. Winter is my least favorite season. Being cold. Driving on ice. Shoveling snow. Broken pipes. Short daylight where I live. Not much sun.
July 10, 2024 at 11:04 am
Haha, no worries! I totally get where you’re coming from. Growing up in a place with long summers, those short winter days can be a big adjustment for us. Winter wonderlands like North Sweden, Norway or Finland always seemed magical to me from afar, all peaceful and snowy. But yeah, I guess for people who live there, it’s a whole different story with icy roads and shoveling.
