Not the world we live in. Not the one we argue about online. Not the one that greets us every morning through headlines filled with wars, anger, and things we’ve somehow learned to scroll past.

I’m talking about the world we might still be able to build – if enough of us slow down, soften a little, and care in small but stubborn ways.

This is the kind of world I’d like to grow old in.

A world where kindness isn’t rare or suspicious

Where being kind doesn’t make people ask, “What do you want in return?” Where goodness isn’t treated like weakness or naïveté.

A world where holding the door, checking in, or giving someone grace isn’t considered extraordinary, just normal. Expected. Human.

Right now, kindness often feels like a rare currency. When we see it, we’re surprised. Sometimes even uncomfortable. That alone says a lot about the world we’re living in.

A world where people listen without preparing their response

Where listening isn’t just a pause before speaking, and conversations aren’t treated like competitions that need to be won.

A world where people feel heard without being corrected, interrupted, or turned into a debate topic before they’ve even finished a sentence.

We live in a time where everyone has something to say, yet very few feel truly listened to. I’d like to grow old in a world that remembers listening is not passive, it’s an act of respect.

A world where we don’t need tragedy to remember our humanity

Right now, it often takes something terrible to bring us together. A war. A disaster. A loss so big that it breaks through our indifference. Only then do we pause, feel, donate, pray, or speak about compassion.

I’d like to grow old in a world where empathy isn’t something we switch on only during crises, but something that exists quietly in everyday moments, without needing a headline to justify it.

A world that still stops to look at the night sky and wonder

A world that occasionally looks up (I mean, really looks up), and remembers how small we are.

A world that pauses under the night sky, stares at the stars, and feels that quiet sense of wonder that no argument, ideology, or breaking news can compete with.

Up there, in the vastness of space, so many of our truths still exist. Time stretches. Perspective shifts. And suddenly, the things we fight over every day feel incredibly insignificant.

I’d like to grow old in a world that remembers this – that not everything needs to be conquered, controlled, or explained. Some things are meant to humble us, to remind us that we are part of something much larger than our fears and our egos.

A world where people don’t fear growing old alone

Where ageing isn’t treated like fading into the background, and older people aren’t slowly made to feel irrelevant or invisible. A world where community doesn’t shrink with age, and where growing older means gaining perspective, not losing value.

Because the fear of growing old isn’t really about time passing; it’s about being forgotten. I’d like to grow old in a world that refuses to forget its people.

A world where outrage isn’t the loudest language

A world where anger doesn’t travel faster than understanding, and certainty doesn’t drown out curiosity. Where disagreement doesn’t automatically turn into dehumanisation, and people aren’t reduced to labels the moment they think differently.

Not a world without conflict, but one with more restraint, more patience, and more willingness to see the person behind the opinion.

A world that values people more than performance

Where rest isn’t something you have to earn through exhaustion, and worth isn’t measured solely by productivity. A world that understands that a constantly tired society cannot be a thoughtful one, and that slowing down is sometimes the most responsible thing we can do.

A world where people don’t perform their goodness

A world where kindness isn’t broadcast, branded, or announced in captions. Where doing the right thing doesn’t require an audience, and goodness isn’t measured by how visible it is.

Somewhere along the way, doing good became something to prove instead of something to live.
If no one sees it, records it, or applauds it, we quietly start wondering if it even matters.

But the truth is – some of the most meaningful good in this world has always happened quietly.

That’s something we were reminded of again and again while working on Unfold the Stories of Unsung Heroes.

People who didn’t set out to be inspiring.
People who didn’t wait for recognition.
People who simply noticed suffering, injustice, or need and responded, often at great personal cost, without expecting their names to travel any further than their conscience.

Their goodness didn’t trend. It didn’t go viral. In many cases, it wasn’t even known outside a small circle, sometimes not even there.

And yet, it mattered.

I’d like to grow old in a world that understands this again. A world where decency doesn’t need witnesses, and kindness doesn’t lose its value just because it stays unseen.

Not a perfect world. Just a kinder, more aware one

I’m not imagining a flawless place where nothing goes wrong. I’m imagining a world that feels livable, forgiving, and human.

A world where people are allowed to make mistakes, change their minds, and grow without being permanently defined by their worst moment.

And maybe it starts smaller than we think

Maybe it doesn’t begin with policies or movements or grand declarations. Maybe it starts with how we speak when we’re tired, how we treat people who inconvenience us, and how we show up when no one is keeping score.

Maybe the world we want to grow old in begins quietly with ordinary choices, made consistently.

So I’ll ask you this, gently:

What kind of world would you like to grow old in?

Not the one we argue about.
The one you’d actually want to live in.

The impact of music on society can be traced back to the dawn of humanity, whether it takes the form of crafted instruments or the sounds of nature itself. You might wake to the melodious singing of birds in the early morning, or, if you live near the ocean, the rhythmic crash of waves. From the moment we’re born, we’re surrounded by music. Even a newborn baby’s cry can sound like a beautiful song to a parent.

When you receive your degree, dancing with your parents without any instrumental music or a DJ creates a proud and memorable moment for both you and them. Similarly, when you propose to your crush and they say a big ‘YES,’ the sudden rise in your heartbeat feels like a beautiful melody.

Music is a constant presence in our lives, taking many forms and exerting a powerful influence on us, both positive and negative. Without it, our lives could become dull and repetitive, a monotonous existence akin to that of robots. Music matters more than you think!

Music has been important to people since the beginning of civilization. It has changed and grown with us, reflecting what we like at different times. Music includes everything from classic pieces that have been loved for years to the exciting beats of modern rock music.

Music is more than just something we enjoy – it’s a powerful tool that reveals the heart of a community. Like movies, music doesn’t just show us the issues, it can also offer insights and inspire change. With its impactful words and rhythms, music can bring people together and make a difference.

What Makes Music Great! (Some Timeless Tunes)

Music has some special ingredients that make it unforgettable – meaningful words, catchy melodies, a great theme and a beautiful voice. When these elements come together, they create a perfect song that stays with us for years to come. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of those iconic soundtracks that still resonate in our hearts and minds –

“I Am Woman” by Helen Reddy: This classic American anthem was born during the women’s liberation movement in the US. It’s a powerful declaration of women’s empowerment and a celebration of what it means to be a woman.

“Aye mere vatan ke logo” by Lata Mangeshkar: It was the patriotic song written by Kavi Pradeep during the Indo-Sino war in 1962. This song Commemorates Indian soldiers during war.

“See You Again” by Charlie Puth & Wiz Khalifa: This hit song from 2015 is a heartfelt tribute to the late actor Paul Walker and a celebration of the power of friendship. It’s a beautiful reminder of the impact we can have on each other’s lives.

“Strange Fruit” by Abel Meeropol: This powerful song was inspired by Meeropol’s poem and protests the horrific lynching of Black Americans, hauntingly likening the victims to fruit hanging from trees. It’s a poignant cry for justice and a stark reminder of the dark history of racial violence.

“We Are the World” by USA for Africa (1985): A charity single for African famine relief.

“Imagine” by John Lennon (1971): A plea for peace and unity.

These hits are not just songs; they’re cultural touchstones that have left a lasting impact on society. Even after years, their melodies and messages continue to resonate with us.

Music can profoundly affect our brains, both positive and negative. For example, a rousing war anthem can inspire courage and unity in soldiers, while a rebellious song can spark social change or even unrest.

How Music Defines Culture and Society

Music isn’t just about sounds; it’s about stories. Songs can transport us to different times and places, and their messages can be understood by people from all walks of life. Music has a special way of bringing us together, creating a sense of community and belonging. Whether we’re singing along with thousands of others at a music festival or humming a favourite tune to ourselves, music makes us feel connected to something bigger than ourselves.

Music from different parts of the world reflects the unique identity of each place. For example, when you hear classical music with instruments like the tabla, harmonium, sitar, and dholak, it instantly takes you to India with its rich and unique sounds. Similarly, Buddhist chanting brings to mind the spiritual traditions of East Asian countries.

But music can also bridge borders and unite us across the globe! Take Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, who revolutionized the music scene in the 90s. His impact on Hip Hop culture was felt far beyond America, inspiring a global movement that transformed the music landscape. For many fans, music is a universal language that speaks directly to the heart. It becomes a part of who they are, a soundtrack to their lives that evokes emotions, memories, and a sense of belonging.

Music is a huge part of celebrations and worship around the world! In India, for example, the Sehnai (a type of flute) is a staple at weddings, both in the North and South. Recently, the wedding of Mukesh Ambani’s son, who is Asia’s richest person, perfectly blended music and celebration. Similarly, in Europe and America, music is often woven into rituals and contemporary practices. Nowadays, music has evolved from ancient classical styles to modern contemporary sounds, changing how people experience and enjoy it.

Related Post: Why Music Matters More Than You Think

Some More Popular Examples – The Birth of Hip-Hop & The Beatles

Hip-hop, a cultural movement born in the Bronx, New York City, in the 1970s, is a prime example of music’s influence on society and culture. Hip-hop gave a platform to young Black and Latino communities which allowed them to share their experiences, frustrations, and aspirations. Hip-hop culture revolutionized fashion, introducing styles like baggy jeans, sneakers, and oversized clothing.

Similarly, The Beatles, a British rock band from Liverpool, are perhaps one of the most influential musical acts in history. The Beatles emerged in the early 1960s amidst a backdrop of social change. Their music, with its catchy melodies and innovative sound, resonated with young people who were challenging traditional norms.

The Beatles became icons of youth culture, inspiring a generation to question authority, embrace individuality, and pursue their dreams. Their hairstyles, fashion, and lifestyle became synonymous with the rebellious spirit of the 1960s. The Beatles pushed the boundaries of music, experimenting with studio techniques and introducing innovative songwriting. Their albums, such as “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” were groundbreaking and influenced countless artists.

My Personal Favorite

Music is my go-to therapy! I’m all about exploring different genres, but when I’m feeling drained, Bhajans are my jam. As a Shaivite, there’s something about listening to ‘OM NAMAH SHIVAY!’ on repeat or chanting the Maha Mritunjaya Jap that just soothes my soul. It’s like the ultimate stress reliever and problem-solver – my mind, body, and spirit all thank me!

Is Today’s Music Poisoning Our Youth?

As I said, music has changed a lot over time, just like everything else. It’s gone from classical music to what we hear today. But, let’s be real – some of the music out there today can be pretty concerning. It feels like we’ve shifted from meaningful lyrics to explicit ones that glorify violence, and that’s affecting our youth. Some songs are just too loud and intense, and people worry they’re making young people more aggressive and rebellious. And have you seen some music videos lately?

They’re filled with famous singers using drugs, guns, and weapons – it’s like they’re making violence and substance abuse look cool! That’s a pretty scary influence on kids if you ask me.

Today’s kids are also copying and chanting songs that promote this kind of vulgarity because these negative things easily get into their subconscious. Parents are worried that kids might pick up bad words or ideas from some songs. The thing is, music is so much more memorable than movies – it’s short, catchy, and easy to recall.

Recently, I saw my neighbour’s child murmuring something. When I got closer, I realized he was learning the hook line of a song that seemed to be about physical abuse and body shaming. I can’t reveal the name of the song due to legal issues, but he’s just 7 years old and was memorizing it without knowing what it meant.

I became really concerned about that incident because while it might seem fun and creative for parents to see their child so active at a young age, these things can have a big impact on a child’s subconscious in the future.

The thing is, music is everywhere and always accessible – we can listen to our favorite songs on repeat all day, every day, without even needing a screen. Whether we’re driving, relaxing, showering, or eating, music is always there. So, we need to be very conscious of what we’re listening to and what our children are listening to.

However, it’s important to remember that music can also be fun and creative. It can help young people express themselves and find friends who share their tastes. We have to constantly monitor our kids and talk to them about the music they listen to. So that we can help them to understand the messages in the songs and avoid them from vulgarity and aggression.

Music is the silent companion that walks with us through life’s joys and struggles, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts and minds.

What if I say that you are already a genius, you just don’t know or never realize it before? Would you believe me? Well, you should because you might be having these signs that already make you different from others around you.

What does Genius mean in general? Just being Intellectual? Having a higher IQ? Being productive, or being creative and original? Science says there is no precise definition that can define genius. But there definitely are some traits to make an uncommon one out of common qualities, that you might possess but aren’t self-aware of yet.

We’ve all pictured a ‘genius’ in our own way. If you’re a story writer, you may portray geniuses as both protagonists and antagonists. You may also think of your role model and favorite person when you hear of a genius. It might be different for different people. You can’t just define ‘Genius’ based on a level of intelligence and higher IQ, of course, they are a prerequisite, but it is way more than simply defining intelligence.

As there is no scientifically precise definition, it may also indicate that you may possess such qualities and skills that the world isn’t aware of yet, including you, and perhaps that’s why you limit them just to yourself. And also feel uncomfortable talking about them. But if you realize and lift up the external pressure, then things become much clearer; it’ll all start to make sense.

I’ve summed up some of these unqiue traits here:

You Are A Good Listener

Do you carefully listen to the people while in the conversation instead of thinking about what to say next? Possibly no, because we keep processing words in our minds to give an instant reply.

That’s why talking to a genius can be tricky, as they always listen first and can challenge your way of thinking, and then the words that you’ve processed become of no use. If you’re a quiet and careful listener, it indicates that you have exceptional qualities that most of us don’t possess.

You Assume Everyone is As Smart As You Are

This can be tricky, but it always remains a fact that dumb or less-skilled people always overestimate themselves, whereas smart ones always underestimate themselves or sometimes even possess low confidence perhaps they thought that if it was easy for them, then it was easy for everyone.

The more we study, the less we know about it; the more you know, the more you realize how much you don’t know. In scientific terms, it is called the Dunning-Kruger Effect. It simply means that you might actually be smart, but seeing others in confidence makes you assume that everyone is as smart as you are. One could ask How would I know- Am I Smart or Dumb? Here’s how:

You Are An Abstract Thinker

You’re specific and never satisfied with a single vague idea that sort of makes sense. Perhaps you listen to advice and ideas, but you are well aware that advice or Ideas may resonate with one person while they might not make sense to others.

We are all unique and at different stages of life, and require different solutions. However, it’s good to listen to advice as they are offering a perspective. But one must know that these are highly generalized statements. It doesn’t mean that if something works for others, the same thing works for you too.

It depends on the situation you are currently living in. You must listen to other ideas and advice, as they’re offering you a different perspective, but always come back to the conclusion you yourself are living in. This shows that you know how to think outside of the box that ‘ordinary’ can’t.

Related Post- The Best Advice I’ve Heard So Far

You Enjoy Being Alone

If you truly know the difference between being alone and being lonely, then you already know how to make the best out of your life. Both sound the same but have a huge difference that ‘ordinary’ possibly never realized.

Being alone doesn’t always indicate you are antisocial or introverted; it simply means you put your alone time to good and productive use. You have a different way of utilizing your alone time, rather than worrying that nobody cares for you.

You Are A Space Person

You think a lot about the universe and unknown things that don’t even exist yet, and have a strange sensation about how significant and insignificant everything can be (Also watch Christopher Nolan’s movies). Being a space enthusiast, your mind is already wide open and ready to visualize things that no ordinary human mind is capable of.

It may sound a bit strange, but if you think, you have that mind and interest in those things that are quite strange and philosophical, while for others, it’s kind of pointless for now. This means you are already ahead of their time.

You Have Your Sixth Sense Of Humor

Humor is not childish, definitely not. It is way more than what you think it is. People say that being funny is definitely a quality that requires intelligence. The part where intelligence becomes correlated with humor is when a certain joke is cleverly crafted that it takes a person some time to know the exact wordplay.

Having a good sense of humor is a key ingredient in creative thinking. So, don’t hesitate to use your sense of humor. Not everyone has those skills. If you have them, make sure you utilize them to stand out in the crowd. I’ve previously written about the significance of having a sense of humor. You can read it here:

You Are A Productive Overthinker

Let me say, overthinking is completely normal unless you make this a perpetual habit. But one thing you should know is that the human mind is so powerful that it can think of 30000-70000 thoughts a day, but most of them are completely useless & unproductive.

If you are a productive overthinker and know exactly how to think, then you might already be a genius. Being a genius doesn’t mean that you know the answer; it means you know a lot of questions and have the curiosity & passion to find the answers.

There are chances that you might stumble upon different answers that no one has ever thought about before. This leads to new discoveries and inventions for the rest of the world. And I think that’s what genius does in general.

Not To Mention,

You may acquire a genius gene from your parents, which they’ve passed on to you. Scientifically speaking, a part of your intelligence comes from your genetics. Genes impact the way your brain is developed. It’s likely that if any of these traits your parents acquired are now yours. And you don’t realize it yet, but in time you’ll just know how much.

This might be a quirky thing to say, but if you love listening to soft background music and love creating a soothing ambience around you while concentrating on something, then it might indicate that your mind is working perfectly fine and way more active than others.

The journey of being a genius starts with self-awareness of how capable you are. If one realizes this, one can be assured that one has plenty of growth potential.

A Secret

You might have listened so many times that you are a daydreamer, you can do anything and the word ‘genius’ is thrown around all too cheaply. But in fact, the tag of a ‘Genius’ is uncommonly rare to get, until you perceive those dreams, ideas, or whatever and are able to connect all the dots.

In fact, a genius is not someone you see every day, and when you do, you won’t even notice them. As I said before, having a sign of intelligence and a higher IQ is just a part of being a genius; these aren’t conclusive that define genius, but these have very little to do with it.

But the saddest part is that your character and poles apart thinking often might not be recognized by people, and even you, as a result of always trying to fit into the world. Perhaps it was your way of schooling, social pressure, or anything. Think about how often these people get laughed at in the moment.

“It’s only you to recognize you.”

Michael Michalko, the author of the book Cracking Creativity says that the difference between Genius and Ordinary is that Genius simply knows how to think, instead of what to think.

Now, let us know what you think about it.

Chasing happiness is what we’re all doing. It’s like a warm hug that makes us feel good inside. We all want to be happy, from the time we’re little kids to when we’re old. We feel like we have to be happy, no matter what. But the problem isn’t wanting to be happy. It’s about where we look for it. What should be our final destination for happiness?

I think everyone has their own definition of happiness. Some people find happiness in material things, while others prefer peace and quiet. Some love to party, and many find joy in family and work. I will not judge anyone for their choices. I, too, spend countless hours scrolling through social media, comparing my life to the perfectly curated lives of others. But no matter how much I achieved, I still felt a nagging sense of emptiness.

The Fake Happiness Trap

1. The False Promise of Material Happiness

One of the easiest ways we get trapped when we look for happiness is by thinking that buying more things will make us happy. We see ads everywhere showing happy people with nice cars, big houses, and expensive clothes. These ads make us think that having more stuff will make us feel good. But studies show that after a certain point, having more stuff doesn’t make us happier.

We get excited when we buy something new, like a gadget or a cool outfit. But that excitement fades as soon as we get it, and we’re left wanting more. This quick burst of happiness is just a temporary feeling, a trick of our brains. It doesn’t last, and we keep chasing the next thing. We end up wanting something deeper that we can’t find in a store. The more we chase material things, the more we realise that true happiness isn’t something we can buy.

Take, for example, you buy a sports car or any other expensive item that you’ve always dreamed of. You drive it as fast as possible or use it to its full potential. But after all that, a big question arises: What now? Is this enough?

2. Seeking Approval in a Judgmental World

Social media has totally changed how we think about happiness. It’s like we’re constantly looking for approval online, always wanting likes and comments. We only post the best moments of our lives – the parties, the achievements, the perfect smiles. It’s like we’re trying to prove to everyone that we’re happy and successful.

But the truth is, relying on others to like us for our happiness is a bit shaky. Sure, it’s nice to see a bunch of likes on a post, but that feeling doesn’t last. We always want more, and we start to think our worth is based on how many likes we get. It’s like we’re chasing a never-ending high.

The worst part is how it makes us compare ourselves to others. We only see everyone’s highlight reels on social media, and it can make us feel bad about ourselves, even if we’re doing well. But real happiness isn’t about what other people think. It’s about finding peace within ourselves, loving who we are, and having genuine connections that don’t need to be shared online. True happiness is about accepting ourselves, flaws and all, without needing anyone else to validate us.

3. When Achievement Becomes a Never-Ending Chase

It’s awesome to achieve great things. It can make us feel really proud and happy. But if we only rely on achievements for happiness, we might end up feeling a bit empty.

It’s easy to get caught up in chasing promotions, awards, or praise. We might think that each new success will make us happy forever. This chase can be exciting, but what happens when we finally reach our goals? We might wonder why we don’t feel as happy as we thought we would.

The truth is, the happiness we get from reaching goals doesn’t always last. After the excitement fades, we start looking for the next big thing. This constant cycle can be tiring, and we might not have time to relax, enjoy the process, and appreciate what we already have. If we don’t take time to enjoy the present, even our biggest achievements might feel a bit hollow.

Real happiness comes from enjoying the journey, not just the destination. It’s about finding joy in the little things and being grateful for what we have.

4. Brief Moments of Joy, Endless Periods of Sadness

We all have those moments when we feel stressed or sad. It’s natural to want quick relief. Maybe you reach for a glass of wine, binge-watch a show, take a spontaneous trip, or eat a whole pizza. These things might make us feel better for a little while, but they don’t really solve the problem. They just hide it and keep us stuck in a loop.

These quick fixes might seem like a good idea at the time, but they often leave us feeling even worse. The good feeling fades quickly, and we’re left feeling emptier than before. Real, lasting happiness doesn’t come from temporary escapes. It comes from facing our feelings, understanding what we truly need, and connecting with our authentic selves.

Where to Search for True Happiness?

After a lot of trial and error (and plenty of frustration), I started to realize that true happiness isn’t something you can chase or force. It’s not found in a new job title, in being in a perfect relationship, or in accumulating stuff. Don’t get me wrong—those things can bring temporary joy or satisfaction, but they don’t provide the kind of happiness that lasts.

True happiness, I’ve come to understand, is found in the little things. It’s in the moments of peace, in the simple joys, and in the connections we make with others.

1. Within Your Heart

The most important place to look for happiness is within yourself. It’s easy to think that happiness comes from reaching goals or getting others to like us. But the real kind of happiness comes from loving and accepting yourself, just the way you are. Your little mistakes, your weird habits, and your special qualities-they all make you unique. This self-acceptance brings a deep sense of peace that nothing else can match. When you truly know and respect yourself, you open your heart to a happiness that will always be there, no matter what life throws your way.

2. By Just Being Present

We often get caught up in regrets about the past or worries about the future, missing out on the simple joys around us. True happiness lies in the present moment. It’s about being fully present, enjoying every moment, whether it’s a cup of tea, a walk in nature, or a laugh with a friend. When you focus on the present, without distractions or fears, you invite peace and joy into your life. The present moment holds all the magic you need, if you simply notice it and let it fill you with peace.

3. By Practicing Gratitude Daily

Gratitude is a game-changer when it comes to happiness. By appreciating what you already have—your health, your family, even the little things—you naturally bring more joy into your life. Gratitude shifts your focus away from what’s missing and highlights all the good things around you. When you make it a habit to be thankful, even for small moments, your heart fills with warmth, and happiness starts to feel more present in your everyday life.

4. Through Finding Your Purpose

There’s something incredibly fulfilling about living with purpose. Whether it’s through your work, hobbies, or helping others, doing things that align with your values brings a deep sense of happiness. It doesn’t have to be something grand—just knowing that what you’re doing matters to you can make even the smallest moments feel meaningful.

5. Living a Balanced Life

True happiness comes from balance. It’s about juggling the different areas of your life—work, rest, relationships, and self-care—in a way that feels right for you. When you create harmony between giving and receiving, between growing and being content in the moment, you feel more at peace. Balance helps you live a life that’s fulfilling and joyful, without feeling overwhelmed or weighed down by stress.

You’re Not Chasing Alone—We All Do It

I know it’s easy to think that everyone else has it figured out, especially with social media showcasing only the highlight reels. But the truth is, we’re all chasing happiness in some form or another—and most of us end up looking in the wrong places. The good news is, once you stop chasing and start living in the present, appreciating the small moments, and nurturing authentic relationships, you’ll find that happiness was never out of reach. It was always right there with you.

So, if you’re reading this and feel like you’re still searching for that elusive happiness, just remember—you’re not alone. And you don’t need to chase it in all the wrong places anymore. Sometimes, the best way to find happiness is to stop running and simply allow it to find you.

Close your eyes. Let the world fade away. Take a breath, and listen. Not to the hustle and bustle around you, but deeper, within yourself. Do you hear it?

The rhythm of your heart, the melody of your soul? That, my friends, is the soundtrack of music, the greatest invention of humanity.

More than just background noise, music matters more than you think!

“Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”

Berthold Auerbach

And how true it is! Even a simple piece of music can whisk us away to a majestic world. It has the remarkable power to touch our inner selves, reshape our thoughts, and make worries vanish into thin air.

Music Isn’t Just Entertainment – It’s a Medicine!

Remember that time you were stuck in a traffic jam, frustrated? Then, a familiar song came on the radio, and suddenly, your mood shifted. You found yourself tapping your foot, singing along, and the tension eased away. That’s the magic of music!

Or how about that moment you were feeling lost, adrift in a sea of uncertainties? But then, you put on your favorite playlist, and the lyrics become your compass, guiding you back to your own inner strength.

Music isn’t just entertainment. It’s a medicine, a magical potion that can mend broken hearts, soothe weary minds, and ignite the fire of our spirits. It’s a language understood by every soul, a bridge connecting us across cultures and generations.

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”

Bob Marley

But Why Music Has Healing Powers?

Now, that’s enough of a poetic notion. In reality, the healing power of music is actually backed by a growing body of scientific evidence.

As per Neurochemical, soothing music triggers the release of endorphins, our natural feel-good chemicals. These dampen the stress hormone cortisol, promoting relaxation and lowering anxiety.

Whereas upbeat music stimulates dopamine and serotonin, neurotransmitters associated with pleasure and positive emotions. Certain musical rhythms can synchronize brainwaves, inducing a state of calm focus similar to meditation.

The “why” of music’s healing power is also deeply individual. Our unique musical preferences, memories, and associations all play a role in how music affects us. A song that reminds you of a happy memory or inspires you can have a profound personal healing effect.

Now, Let’s Talk Favourites

We all have that one piece of music that speaks to our soul, that transcends time and space. For me, the ethereal tunes of science-inspired music like the interstellar soundtracks or like those by Melodysheep or the emotional lullaby of “Saturn” by Sleeping at Last, have an otherworldly impact on my being.

When that first note hits, the world melts away, leaving only me and the infinite universe swirling within the melody.

I can’t put into words the feeling when the music envelops me; it’s as if everything else becomes insignificant, and I’m transported to another realm.

It’s a reminder to me that even on the darkest nights, there’s beauty to be found and stars to guide us.

Here, give it a listen:

Saturn by Sleeping at Last

What I also think is that music has the power not only to soothe our individual souls but also to connect us as human beings. Through music, we learn to appreciate the beauty of diversity and, in turn, become better, more compassionate humans.

When Music United Foes in 1914

I’ve heard this story once about the Christmas Truce of 1914 where music became the reason for the ceasefire.

So, in the midst of World War I, German and British soldiers, sworn enemies just hours before, emerged from their shelters, as they were drawn by some unexpected melody.

As Christmas Eve settled over the trenches, soldiers on both sides began to hear the faint strains of Christmas carols sung by the enemy. The beautiful melodies floated through the cold night air, capturing the attention and hearts of all those soldiers on both sides.

That night, the battlefield became a stage for a shared humanity. Enemies laid down their arms and exchanged cigarettes and stories instead of bullets. For a brief moment, the war ceased to exist, replaced by the unifying power of music.

This extraordinary event wasn’t an isolated incident. Throughout history, music has consistently given voice to the collective human experience.

Think of the Chilean miners trapped for 69 days in 2010, kept alive by the shared hope and the above-ground world’s rendition of their favorite song, “Rescátame” (Rescue Me).

Despite our differences, we share a common thread, a heartbeat that resonates to the same rhythm.

Remember, the greatest invention isn’t just for entertainment, it’s for evolution. Music is something that matters the most than you think.

There’s this paradox I keep bumping into – the world glorifies hustle, productivity, and getting things done, but the moment I try to not do anything (just sit in stillness), I feel like I’m losing a battle I didn’t even sign up for.

You’d think doing nothing would be easy, right? After all, it literally requires no effort. But no, definitely not, doing nothing has turned out to be the hardest thing I’ve ever tried.

And the interesting part is, it’s not because my body refuses to be still. It’s my mind. That little thought machine just won’t shut up.

Why Doing Nothing Feels Like Failure

When I sit quietly, I feel this nagging sense of guilt, like I should be reading, writing, checking emails, or at least reorganising my almirah drawer that’s been a black hole since 2019.

I think a lot of us wrestle with this because we’ve equated worth with output. If we’re not producing something—be it words, spreadsheets, or Instagram reels- we feel like we’re falling behind.

We live in a culture that equates busyness with value. If you’re not doing something measurable, you’re “wasting time.” But the twist is that time spent in stillness is never wasted.

There’s a Zen saying I love: “Sitting quietly, doing nothing, spring comes, and the grass grows by itself.” In other words, life has a rhythm of its own. We don’t need to force everything to happen; we just have to let it unfold.

And yet, it still feels like failure when we’re not contributing, producing, or progressing. That’s the mental knot most of us get stuck in.

Writers Are the Worst at This

As a writer, I’m guilty of treating every quiet moment as a potential idea factory. I’ll sit down with my snacks, thinking I’ll take a break, but ten minutes in, I’m scribbling half-formed thoughts about literally anything that I think I should be writing about.

The irony? Some of my best ideas do come when I’m not actively chasing them. That one time I was stuck on a thought for weeks? The breakthrough came while I was aimlessly watching clouds drift by. Go figure.

Remember when the pandemic hit, the whole world was forced into a kind of collective pause. Suddenly, the endless busyness stopped; there was no rushing to work, no weekend plans, no constant running around. Like everyone else, I found myself… doing nothing.

At first, it felt strange, even uncomfortable. I tried baking bread, organising closets, and pretending to enjoy home workouts. But when all of that quieted down, I was just left with myself. And in that stillness, when I wasn’t forcing productivity, an idea slipped in.

That’s when the thought of starting this blog first appeared.

Had life not slowed me down, I’m not sure I would have listened to it. But doing nothing created the space for that idea to surface. And here we are.

Recommended Read: How My Ideas Vanish the Moment I Pick Up a Pen

Virginia Woolf once said, “Arrange whatever pieces come your way.” But to even notice those pieces, sometimes we need stillness. Doing nothing creates the space for ideas to drift in.

The FOMO of Stillness

Here’s a real-life story: A few months ago, I challenged myself to spend one Sunday evening doing absolutely nothing. No phone, no laptop, no books – it’s just me, sitting and observing.

Within fifteen minutes, I had:

Thought about three emails I “really should” reply to.

Replayed a random awkward conversation from 2012.

Decided I might need to rearrange my bookshelf.

By the end of the hour, I wasn’t refreshed; I was exhausted from wrestling with my own thoughts. That was the moment I realised: doing nothing isn’t just sitting around. It’s a skill.

The Stoics knew this long ago. Seneca wrote, “It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it.”

Doing Nothing Is Doing Something

A wise friend once told me, “Rest is productive.” I didn’t think about it that time, but they weren’t wrong. Neuroscience even backs this up. Studies show that when we let our minds wander, the “default mode network” lights up – the very part of the brain linked to creativity, self-reflection, and problem-solving.

So technically, when you’re staring out the window, you’re not wasting time, you’re giving your brain a chance to connect dots it can’t while it’s juggling to-do lists.

It’s like the saying: “Don’t just do something, sit there.”

Why It’s Hard but Worth It

The hardest part about doing nothing is the feeling that we’re stepping out of the race. The world is sprinting, and here we are—just…sitting. But maybe that’s exactly the point.

Doing nothing gives us:

Clarity: Silence makes space for the thoughts that really matter.

Perspective: It reminds us that life isn’t just about output.

Creativity: Empty space becomes fertile ground for new ideas.

Courage: It takes guts to say, “I’m enough, even when I’m not producing.”

As Lao Tzu put it: “Doing nothing is better than being busy doing nothing.”

I’m still not great at doing nothing. My brain keeps insisting I should be useful. But I’m learning to see “nothing” not as a void, but as a pause – a reset button.

The way I see it now: when I sit quietly, sipping tea, letting the world spin without me for a bit, I’m not failing. I’m recharging. I’m making room for the next chapter, the next sentence, the next story.

So if doing nothing feels impossible for you, too, you’re not alone. But maybe, doing nothing is exactly the something we all need more of.

One day, I hope to be really good at doing nothing. Who knows, maybe I’ll even win a gold medal in it-though knowing me, I’d probably ruin it by writing about the experience.

You know what keeps me sane these days? It’s not therapy, or some productivity hacks, or the next big thing on my to-do list. It’s this small, seemingly insignificant ritual I’ve carried with me for years: Watching the night sky.

Every night, no matter how emotionally drained or physically tired I am, I step out onto my balcony and look up at the stars, even if it’s just for five minutes. Some nights, I stand there with some snacks in my hands; other nights, just my hands tucked in my hoodie. I know, it may sound ordinary, but in that moment, surrounded by silence and sky, something really shifts within me.

I stop rushing. I stop scrolling. I stop solving. I just exist. And I remember what it feels like to be… human.

The World’s a Lot Right Now

Let’s not pretend otherwise, the world right now feels like a constant storm of bad news and brokenness. There’s war happening in places we’ll never visit, injustices unfolding in real time on our screens, polarising arguments that divide instead of heal, a fragile economy, burning forests, missing empathy, rising loneliness (even in rooms full of people).

And in the middle of all this, we’re somehow expected to carry on like machines – functioning, producing, achieving, numbing, repeating, until our hearts go quiet and our minds turn mechanical.

But we’re not machines. We were never meant to be.

Which is why, now more than ever, we need to hold tight to the things that make us feel alive, the things that tether us back to our emotional centre when everything else is pulling us apart. We need our little rituals.

These Little Things? They’re Holding Us Together.

Rituals are not always religious. Some of the most powerful rituals are deeply personal. Unspoken. Uncelebrated. But soul-sustaining.

They are often so personal, so small, that we forget how much they matter:

That call you make to your mum every evening, not because there’s big news, but just to hear her voice and know she’s okay.
The way you make your chai in the same old steel saucepan every morning, with exactly two cardamoms, because that’s how your dad liked it.
The walk you take after dinner not to burn calories, but to untangle your thoughts from the day.
The playlists you replay endlessly, not because they’re new, but because they feel like home in a world that’s constantly changing.
Feeding the same stray dog every morning before office, because no one else will.
Wearing your grandfather’s old wristwatch, even though it no longer ticks, because it makes you feel like he’s still part of your journey.
Sending a “reached” text even though you’re 30 and independent, because someone out there still waits for that message.

These rituals may never go up on Instagram stories. They’re not aesthetic. They’re not content. But they’re yours. And they’re sacred.

Because they do something no therapy app or productivity tool can. They remind you that you’re still connected to yourself, to your memories, to your softness, and to the parts of you that the world hasn’t broken yet.

Why Does It Matter So Much?

Because the world will keep demanding from you, your time, your energy, your opinions, your attention, and your outrage. It will keep numbing you with noise, rushing you with deadlines, tempting you with distractions. It will ask you to move fast, speak loudly, and stay in a constant loop of reacting.

But these little rituals? They ask nothing from you, except that you be present. They invite you into a slower, quieter space where you don’t have to prove anything—where you can simply be.

And when you do these small things with intention – boiling your tea, folding your clothes slowly, reading poetry, saying your grandmother’s prayer before sleeping, something inside you breathes easier.

You remember who you are beneath all the roles. You reconnect with the child in you, the artist in you, the lover, the thinker, the human being – not just the human doing.

Softness Is a Radical Act

There is something profoundly powerful about staying soft in a world that’s constantly trying to harden you. There is courage in still caring deeply when apathy is the easier option.

There is resistance in preserving your rituals of love, of faith, of connection, even when the world mocks them as unnecessary or outdated.

When you light that candle, or whisper a prayer, or journal your thoughts before sleep—
You are saying: “I refuse to become numb.”
You are saying: “I still believe in meaning.”
You are saying: “I am human, and I intend to stay that way.”

As I already said above, for me, that night sky ritual has become more than just a moment of calm. It reminds me that the world is still vast, that mystery still exists, that not everything has to be understood or explained. It pulls me out of my deadlines and disappointments and gently whispers, “There’s more to life than this.”

It keeps my curiosity alive. It helps me stay grounded in a world that often feels rootless.

You might also want to read: The Night Sky Deserves Your Attention

What’s Your Ritual?

Maybe it’s the way you check on your sibling without making it obvious.
Maybe it’s singing to yourself in the shower, or keeping a diary no one else will ever read.
Maybe it’s carrying a small photo of your parents in your wallet, even though you rarely look at it.
Maybe it’s listening to old voice notes of someone who’s no longer around, just to feel close for a minute.
Maybe it’s checking the locks twice before bed – not out of fear, but out of habit, because that’s how your dad did it.
Maybe it’s standing at your window during rainstorms, not doing anything, just watching and breathing.
Maybe it’s saving screenshots of kind messages people have sent you over the years.
Maybe it’s smiling at strangers on your walk because you know what it feels like to go unnoticed.

Whatever it is, hold onto it. Don’t underestimate it. These aren’t just habits. They’re little altars. Little pieces of yourself you’ve kept safe, even when everything else felt out of control.

So the next time you feel overwhelmed, or disconnected, or like you’re slowly becoming just another name in the crowd. Return to your ritual. Return to yourself.

And remember: the world may be losing its soul, but you don’t have to.

Before You Go: Our book series – ‘Unfold the Stories of Unsung Heroes‘ was born from this very idea. That even in a chaotic world, people quietly choose kindness. They heal. They fight for what’s right. They show up, even when nobody’s watching.

That’s why we just love to tell their stories. They remind us that being human is still something worth celebrating.

And maybe, your little ritual today… the one that seems insignificant—might be your own act of unsung heroism.

They never taught us how to live. We’re taught the rules of grammar, the theorems of math, and the dates of history. We’re prepped for exams, careers, and the theoretical world. Yet, when the real world hits, many of us just don’t know what to do. A year ago, I argued that schooling can sometimes hinder education.

Schools focus on getting good grades and getting a degree, but they don’t teach us how to actually live. It’s like they take all these unique kids and try to squash them into the same mold. Imagine if schools actually helped kids find their strengths instead, like letting them explore art, music, and sports alongside math and science. Wouldn’t that be amazing?

Unfortunately, most of our schools were pretty traditional. We just studied from books and took tests. The real lessons came later, from dealing with life’s ups and downs. I learned how to keep going when things get tough, to understand other people’s feelings, and to bounce back from problems. It took a lot of work, although I’m still figuring out who I am and what I want. I’m still learning the essential life skills that nobody actually taught me.

The science behind learning life skills is fascinating. Human brains are incredible; they’re always changing and growing, especially when we learn new things. The more we practice something, the better we get at it. That’s why it’s important to learn life skills early on when our brains are most flexible.

Life skills help us feel good and build strong relationships. They make us smarter about making choices and dealing with stress. Basically, life skills are the building blocks for a happy and successful life.

So, here are a few life skills that nobody actually taught us, I think:

1. There’s a Difference Between Being Alone and Being Lonely

A few years back, I had a conversation with one of my long-lost friends. It had been around 9 years since we saw each other. We talked for a while, and the story he told me upset my mind. Within these years, he’s gone through a lot. In between the conversation, he controlled his tears and said:

“Being Lonely is the worst thing in anyone’s life. It feels like you’re drowning in an ocean of your own self-judgment and hate, and every time you pull yourself up to breathe, another wave washes over you. There are a lot of people around you but yet no one holds your hand to bring you to the shore.”

That conversation stuck with me, and it made me realize that I had been confusing being alone with being lonely for a long time. I had thought that being alone meant being lonely, but my friend’s words made me see the difference. Being alone is a state of physical solitude, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re feeling sad or disconnected. You can be alone and still feel fulfilled, content, and even happy.

On the other hand, loneliness is an emotional state of feeling disconnected, isolated, and unheard. You can be surrounded by people and still feel lonely, just like my friend described. It’s a feeling of being adrift, without a sense of belonging or support.

2. It is Good to Leave Your Comfort Zone

When you find your comfort zone and stay so long within that, you might be missing something. That cozy little bubble where everything feels familiar and safe? Yeah, it’s great to hang out there sometimes, but the thing is, it can also get pretty limiting. I mean, think about it – if you never leave your comfort zone, you’ll never really know what you’re capable of.

Now, I’m not saying you should constantly be pushing yourself to the edge (although let’s be real, sometimes that’s necessary too). But what I am saying is that finding a balance between comfort and discomfort is key. It’s like, you need a little bit of both to really grow and learn.

Some people are lucky enough to grow up trying lots of different things. But for most of us, we gotta push ourselves a bit to step outside our comfort zones. It can be scary, but it’s also where the fun and growth happen. So, don’t be afraid to get a little uncomfortable. It’s okay to feel scared or nervous – that’s just your comfort zone trying to hold you back.

3. Use Your Leisure to Create, Not Conceal

Tell me, how do you usually spend your leisure time? A lot of us use that time to chill out and forget about our daily grind. That’s totally fine! But what if we could use that time to actually build the kind of life we want? For example, if you’re stuck in a corporate job but want to be a writer, maybe spend your evenings writing or taking a writing course or perhaps start writing a book. It might not feel like much at first, but small steps can lead to big changes.

The point is, your leisure time is precious. Don’t just use it to escape the present – use it to build the life you want.

4. Procrastination Isn’t Always a Bad Thing

Procrastination is usually seen as a bad thing, but in my opinion, it isn’t. Procrastination isn’t always a productivity killer. In fact, it can be a useful tool…if you use it intentionally. Think about it, sometimes putting things off can help you focus on what really matters.

It’s okay to leave some tasks for tomorrow if it means you’re tackling the important stuff today. So, don’t beat yourself up over not getting everything done. Just prioritize, focus, and use procrastination to your advantage. It’s all about balance.

I highly recommend you read this: Procrastination Isn’t Always a Bad Thing

5. Advice is just Advice

Everyone’s got advice, right? We’ve all been there – someone’s telling us what to do, and we’re like, “Okay, got it”. But the thing is: advice is just advice. It’s based on someone else’s experiences and might not work for you. That’s because we’re all unique, with different situations and stages of life.

So, take advice for what it is – a perspective. Listen, consider, and then decide what works best for you. Don’t feel pressured to follow someone else’s path just because it worked for them. You do you.

6. Money Can Buy You Happiness

Okay, I know this is a hot topic and many of you would disagree. The fact is, money can actually bring happiness, but it’s all about what you use it for. If you know what makes you happy, money can help you get those things. It’s not about being rich, but about covering your basics and enjoying some extras.

Think about it, money can buy experiences, memories, and moments that make life worth living. It’s not the only thing that matters, but it can definitely contribute to happiness. So, those who say “money is just a scum of hand”, Perhaps are either rich or haven’t faced the harsh reality of the world yet.

If you still don’t believe money can buy you happiness, you can read my personal story and thoughts here: Money Really Can Buy You Happiness!

7. You Might Be Smarter Than You Think

It’s funny how it works, right? People who aren’t so smart often think they’re geniuses, while the really smart ones doubt themselves. It’s like the opposite of what you’d expect. Sometimes, smart people think, “If it’s easy for me, it must be easy for everyone else.” But that’s just not true.

This is called the Dunning-Kruger effect, basically, it means that people who don’t know much tend to overestimate their abilities, while those who know a lot tend to underestimate theirs. So, next time you’re feeling unsure about yourself, remember: you might be smarter than you think.

8. Prioritise Family & Me Time

It’s awesome to be good at your job, but don’t forget about the people who matter most – your family! Balancing work and family life is tough, but it’s super important. So, while it’s great to be productive, make sure you’re also making time for the people you love and for yourself. After all, what’s the point of all that hard work if you can’t enjoy it with your family?

9. Write Every Day

Everyone’s got stories to tell. Writing is a great way to get those ideas out of your head and onto paper. It’s like exercising your brain and letting your imagination run wild. It is one of those life skills that I admire deeply. Don’t worry about making sense or being perfect, just let your imagination run wild. You might be surprised at what you come up with.

If you do not already know, it is scientifically proven that writing affects how your brain works. I’ve been writing for over 4 years, and after writing several articles or blogs, I have a positive outlook and a kinda divergent perspective of seeing the situation.

10. Saying Sorry is a Strength, Not a Weakness

Saying sorry isn’t about being wrong; it’s about caring more about the person than your pride. A simple “sorry” can save a relationship. So, swallow your ego and give it a try. If you never try, you’ll never know how a sincere apology with a smile can work wonders.

Must Read This Story: Ego Psychology & Importance of Saying Sorry

11. Balance is Beautiful

Want to know the secret to a happy life? It’s all about balance. Just like a perfect recipe, you need a dash of everything in moderation. Not too much, not too little – just the right amount. Whether it’s work, play, exercise, relationships, or even laughter and happiness, all you need is just find that sweet spot. So, enjoy everything in moderation and live your best life.

12. Know the Significance of the Word ‘Life’

Life is actually pretty incredible if you just sit for a while and think about it. Like, really stopped to think about it? You’ll perhaps realize how rare and beautiful it is to even exist. There’s so much beauty and wonder in the world, from tiny flowers to distant galaxies.

It’s a crazy, beautiful adventure, and we’re lucky to be a part of it. I’ve spent countless nights staring through my telescope, and it just blows my mind. Only my telescope and I know how many wonders we’ve seen together. To be honest, it isn’t even a life skill but more of a self-awakening one.

13. It’s Ok to Talk Less

It’s OK to talk less, I’m an introvert, but I know the where, what and how of talks. So it isn’t any shortcoming.

14. Social Awkwardness Doesn’t Mean You’re Mad

There’s nothing wrong with being socially awkward. In fact, it is awesome. No one is perfect; it’s an illusion. People who behave differently don’t aim for perfection in a public place; they don’t focus too much on how to stand, how to walk perfectly, how to talk, how to sit, etc. They just strive for excellence in what they are more curious about. And, I think it’s a good thing to do.

Life’s a wild adventure, and we’re all just figuring it out as we go. Remember, it’s okay to not have all the answers. The journey is as important as the destination.

So, tell me what life skills would you add to this list?

A hero can be defined in many ways. When asked what a hero looks like – many people see Superman, Supergirl, Batman, or Wonder Woman because these are the first images they may see in their minds. When pressed for a more serious answer these same people might mention Mother Teresa, George Washington, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, or Mahatma Gandhi. Because of my personal faith, I consider Jesus the ultimate hero of humanity. There are just too many numbers and types of heroes to discuss in this one simple article.

I don’t know about you, but I cannot fathom comparing myself to any of the amazing heroes listed above. So, where does that leave the rest of us? Where does that leave me? Have I done anything to change or make the world a better place?

What Creates a Hero?

What creates a hero with the ability to make major changes and improvements in the world? Nelson Mandela had a deep spirituality that was rooted in his Methodist beliefs. In prison, Mandela’s faith flourished, and he developed a sense of community. Although he was private about his religious views, his spirituality was a core part of his character. Mother Teresa embraced her “dark night of the soul” as a part of her spiritual journey and a way to identify with Christ’s suffering. She believed that the darkness prepared her for a deeper union with God and compassion for the poor.

George Washington (Known as The Father of America) was a devoted member of the Anglican Church but was supportive of other faiths. In 1762, Washington became a vestryman in Truro Parish, overseeing the affairs at Pohick Church. He served as a churchwarden for three terms, helping to care for the poor. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist Pastor and inspired by Mahatma Gandhi.

Mahatma Gandhi experienced a spiritual awakening in South Africa. This awakening led him to adopt a nonviolent approach to fighting injustice. The Apostle Paul who wrote most of the New Testament certainly had a spiritual awakening with God which grew stronger, even while in prison. Paul’s “God Inspired” writings have brought spiritual rebirth to literally billions of lives.

Contemplation

As the day of my retirement approached, I contemplated these things and what, if anything I had accomplished with the life given to me.

Deciding first, to be thankful.

Blessed is the person living in a country with the opportunity to work for a lifetime and be free, while realizing that many do not have these same opportunities.

Second, should retirement really be a destination?

Is it the ultimate goal? I thought it was mine until losing Elizabeth; known as “Liz” by all who knew her. I realized that retirement was always “our goal” together not mine alone. We had been married since high school and our marriage spanned 48 years. My unconditional love for her continues today and will never cease. I have been told this is not “healthy.” People can judge me, I don’t care. After all, I may not be healthy. LOL!

Third, reviewing the workplace.

I began my working life in construction and Liz became a realtor. We often worked multiple jobs at the same time, but we were very young, so we easily found time to have our three wonderful children. Liz remained in real estate while I spent the next 17 years in the auto trade. In 1996 I began working in healthcare facility construction during which time Liz was diagnosed with MS and was forced to resign in 2006. She would fight the disease valiantly until it took her from me in 2017.

The day after her “celebration of life” service was a Sunday, so I attended the small church she had repeatedly urged me to attend with her, but I would never go or even take her. I have been serving in church since that first Sunday and have dedicated my life to serving God.

During my “contemplation” of life, I couldn’t help but think of the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” We all know that story; George Baily decides to end his life believing there had been no value or meaning to his existence. Clarence the Angel saves his life and shows him how terrible others’ lives would have been without him.

All We Need is Love

So, maybe we cannot all be superheroes, with our names honored in history books, or change the world. Maybe ours is a group effort, a collaboration. No matter your audience or circle of influence, we all matter. Being a responsible citizen matters, and being a good parent makes a huge difference in your children’s lives. Being a hard worker is much more valuable than being a lazy worker.

Giving to charity, church outreach programs, donations, working as a volunteer, helping and just giving of yourself, it all matters.

Everyone will know what’s truly in your heart by the love you show for others. Setting a good example is priceless. Good character cannot be purchased. Such things are the traits of a hero making a difference. I have not noticed a real hero taking sole credit for their heroic accomplishments, quite the contrary; The brave soldier receiving a medal always gives credit to others. Billy Graham gave glory only to God. Nelson Mandela gave credit to the women and children of S. Africa. The apostle Paul gave all credit to God, as do I.

There is an article about my retirement in the local newspaper below should anyone be interested in reading it. They obviously have little news to report” LOL

My photo of Harrison Daily Times article.

Epilog

I’ve been retired only two weeks as I write these words, but I can offer these thoughts: I don’t believe retirement should be a goal, but it is wise to be prepared if possible. Make sure you are living life along the way because the best-laid plans will change, sometimes drastically.

I thank God for getting me this far because everyone does not have the opportunity or make it to retirement so don’t miss out on life along the way…

A friend recently asked – Why do I find the night sky and stargazing so captivating? Well, the answer is simple – The night reveals our planet’s connection with the universe. For me, there’s no greater beauty.

And I truly believe you can share this experience. Take a moment each night to step outside and simply look up. Trust me, this simple act has the potential to become the most special and joyful part of your day. That’s why I said the night sky deserves your attention.

No deny, we all have a busy life. We all have that never-ending to-do list, who has time to stare at the stars, right? But here’s the secret: you don’t need hours. Just a few stolen minutes can work wonders.

Think about it. You’re rushing around, stress building, and then you take a breath, look up and see a shooting star streak across the darkness. In those precious seconds, the world fades away. Your worries shrink. It’s a tiny moment of pure peace in the midst of the chaos. Isn’t that wonderful? Then, what’s stopping you?

I’ve made this a habit, every night to go up at the terrace or to my backyard and just lie there for a few minutes to see the stars. It’s been 4 years and I’m doing this every day and you won’t believe how many shooting stars I’ve seen till now, how many wonders I’ve witnessed while every neighbour around me stuck to their screen in their teeny-tiny room.

Sometimes I want to listen to the Interstellar soundtrack and lie on the ground somewhere high in the mountains, with a cool breeze blowing on my face, gazing up at the starry night sky, and wondering about the infinite possibilities in the cosmos awaiting us humans to explore.

We Are Stardust

The other reason why most of us feel so connected with the universe, like they’re old friends is that we all are made of that stardust, we’re a part of it. In fact, there’s a quote by the legendary Carl Sagan that perfectly sums it up –

All of the rocky and metallic material we stand on, the iron in our blood, the calcium in our teeth, the carbon in our genes were produced billions of years ago in the interior of a red giant star. We are made of star-stuff.

Carl sagan

Let that sink in for a moment. Everything we are, everything that makes us human, was once part of a star.

Here’s another thing that will make you feel special – When you stand beneath a dark sky, realize that the light you’re seeing coming from those stars and galaxies started its journey hundreds, thousands, millions, and even billions of years ago, over unimaginable distances, without ever hitting anything – only to end its journey in your eye. Isn’t it something mind-blowing?

We have but a short time on this planet. So why not spend some of those precious moments experiencing the wonder of the universe we’re part of?

The Night Sky is Disappearing

If you’re even a bit convinced about looking up at the night sky, I think you need to start it today. Why? Because the night sky is disappearing faster than ever.

Light pollution is a growing problem. Research shows that Earth’s night sky is now twice as bright as it was 10 years ago, thanks to artificial lights. That means children born today might only see 30% of the stars, that we see today, on their 18th birthdays. Sadly, the breathtaking view of the Milky Way that captivated you today might be a thing of the past for future generations.

And to be honest, it isn’t all just about the artificial light. Speaking from a broader perspective, the nature of the universe itself will make these stars fade someday. But, how? And how does it make us the lucky ones?

We Are the Lucky Ones

The time scale in which we’re in right now is considered to be the very early stage of the universe. It is considered that on the scale of a human lifetime, the universe has just emerged from the womb.

Now, we all know that the universe is expanding and, as the universe continues to expand, those distant stars we see today will eventually drift farther and farther away from us. In fact, billions of years from now, many of them will be so distant that their light will no longer reach our little corner of the cosmos. What does that mean for the future of our night sky?

Eventually, as the stars grow colder and dimmer, the universe will enter a long, cold, and lonely era. The night sky we see today will look far more different in the future.

Perhaps, the future civilizations that may one day arise in the vast emptiness of space will wonder – ‘What was it like to live in the universe’s brilliant early days?’ And you know what? We’re lucky enough to know the answer.

All we have to do is look up.
