I think hearts are a lot like flowers.
Beautiful… fragile… and alive.
If you really want to understand a person,
just give them a flower.
Watch how they take care of it.

People often say they don’t like flowers,
but maybe it’s not that,
maybe they don’t want the responsibility
of caring for something that can fade.
Because taking care of a flower
is not very different from taking care of a heart.
Both need attention.
Both need patience.
Both can slowly fall apart… even when you didn’t mean to hurt them.

And one day,
both will eventually die.
So it’s on you
you can be careless and suffocate them,
or you can nurture them
and make their short life meaningful.
Maybe life is just this:
spending as much time as possible
with things that are real,
even if they don’t last forever.
Or…
you can choose artificial flowers.

They don’t fade.
They don’t need care.
They don’t ask for anything.
But you’ll never truly love them.
Because fake things
may survive longer…
but they never feel alive.

Post by Dennis

Do you ever have a crazy dream? Are your dreams in color? Do your dreams make any sense? Do your dreams have a meaning? My answers are: Yes, I have crazy dreams all the time. My dreams are always in vivid color, and sometimes they don’t make much sense. Other times though, I can see some meaning or at least a relevance to people, and or the events of my past or present life. Most of my dreams are fragmented, short clips like a movie preview, but a few play out like the entire movie.

Dream Like a Movie

Having one of those “Movie” dreams a couple of nights ago and not being able to get it off my mind inspired me to write about dreams and share a condensed version of my “movie dream” for you here. Facts to know first: Liz was my wife of 48 years, who passed 8 years ago. Judy was Liz’s closest friend since grade school, who passed a year before Liz. Neither of them ever owned or rode motorcycles. Our families and lives were intertwined almost as one family. We bought, sold, and re-modeled many homes over the years.

Judy and Liz (Blond)

I woke up one morning to find that Liz and Judy had torn out the cabinets and most of the walls in the house, saying they were “re-modeling this old place.” I got very angry, screaming, “I don’t have the money to pay for re-modeling!” Liz said, “I don’t need your money; we have plenty of money.” A windstorm came up and blew the house down because most of the walls were gone.

For some reason, Liz and Judy had motorcycles. Liz told me to get on the motorcycle behind her and screamed, “We need to get out of here!” To which I screamed above the loud motors and wind, “You don’t know how to ride a motorcycle” She yelled, “Just get on dam#t” So, I jumped on, and we were off and flying! When we finally burst out of the storm at breakneck speed and stopped, we were staring down a very high and very steep hill.

Liz and Judy were revving up the motorcycle engines, and I was screaming, “It’s too steep!” We shot down the hill. It turned out the hill was too steep because we crashed at the bottom.

The “Rumble”

We were fine, but the wheels on the motorcycles were all bent up. Across the road was a garage attached to a bar, which had motorcycles parked out front. The mechanic at the garage, who was a large woman, said she could replace the wheels on our motorcycles, so we went into the bar to wait. The bar was full of a rough, loud motorcycle gang, but we sat at the bar anyway. Soon, the large mechanic came and said our motorcycles were ready.

We saw she had put bright green wheels on them. Liz and Judy were furious about the cost of the green wheels and ended up fighting with the mechanic inside the bar. Liz was on her shoulders, pulling her hair while Judy and the woman were trading punches. I was trying to get Liz down off her when several of the men grabbed and dragged me around the floor while kicking me.

Somehow, we were then outside and climbed on the motorcycles with green wheels. All the people from the bar were outside firing green arrows at us as we sped away. One of the arrows hit me in the back, and I woke up.

A dream like that, so vivid and detailed, was pretty rare for me, and when I got out of bed, I caught myself scanning the house just to make sure everything was still okay.

Is This Dream a Message?

I could not stop thinking about that dream. For days, it was almost constantly on my mind, to the point of interfering with my daily activities. I couldn’t play my guitar through a song without losing track along the way. Nor could I read or write anything because I just could not concentrate. The dream had to mean something. So, being a man of faith and a Christian, I knew where to begin.

One of my favorite people in the Bible, Daniel, was famous for his ability to interpret dreams when other wise men could not. The most famous was King Nebuchadnezzar’s (what a name) his dream about a giant statue representing world empires and the eternal kingdom of God. Scripture gives many examples of God communicating through dreams. I believe that a dream could be a message from God as long as it’s tested with His word, glorifies Him, and encourages spiritual growth.

Most faiths recognize that dreams can sometimes have meaning deeper than just a figment of the imagination.

Some Common Themes Across Religions

Dreams use symbols and metaphors to convey spiritual messages, requiring interpretation. Dreams bridge the inner self (mind, desires) with the outer spiritual reality, showing a person’s state or connecting them with the divine. (AI Search)

My Interpretation of the Dream

Liz had a gift. (She called it a curse.) because she did not want the thoughts or feelings that came to her. She sometimes knew something was about to happen or knew when one of our kids had skipped school. She could sometimes see an aura around a person, and the colors meant different things to her. If she said, “Don’t get on the plane, don’t get on the plane”, those sorts of things. I think we all have a bit of that gift/curse when we are born to a certain extent. It may get squashed as we grow, ignore it, and push it away.

I am now being comforted by this dream. I am being shown that love continues, even after death. I don’t have to worry that our short life here on earth, “only as long as a whisp of smoke” (as the Bible says), is all there is for the faithful. My wife Liz is waiting for me, with her bright, youthful, spirited self.

The remodeling, storm, crash, and fighting tell me that we will have a new life even after hardship and destruction. I felt the green wheels and arrows must be important, so it was part of my research. Green represents good, compassion, love, healing, and harmony. Maybe the green arrow in my back lets me know that death is not as scary as we think.

Liz and Judy always stood up for each other, just as they were doing in that bar. Maybe the dream shows me they are still together. Maybe they are waiting for all of their loved ones to have more of the many joyful parties that our families had together.

Ask, Seek, Knock

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Matt. 7:7-8

Ever feel like your wisdom has made you feel isolated? You zoom past the potholes of small talk, effortlessly understand complex concepts, and leave others in the dust when it comes to intellectual pursuits. But then, a strange thing happens. You start feeling…alone. Isolated. Like you’re trapped in a cage of your own brilliance.

Turns out, intelligence doesn’t come with a happiness guarantee. In fact, some might argue it’s a double-edged sword.

Let’s take Alan Turing, for example, the enigmatic mathematician who cracked the Enigma code during World War II. He is considered the true pioneer of computer science. His brilliance was undeniable, but it also came at a cost. He suffered isolation. Turing’s homosexuality, illegal at the time, led to his eventual suicide.

Intelligence alone doesn’t guarantee acceptance or happiness. It can, in fact, create a void between you and others, leaving you feeling like a misunderstood genius.

The Curse of Knowledge

Remember that time you learned about the vastness of the universe and suddenly felt insignificant? Or stumbled upon the concept of nihilism and questioned the very meaning of life? That is exactly the “curse of knowledge.”

It’s like taking the red pill in the Matrix – you see the world in all its messy, complicated glory, and suddenly, the ignorance of others seems strangely appealing.

However, for some, this curse of knowledge can be the biggest motivation.

The more you fall for concepts like Philosophy, psychology, existentialism, nihilism, and spiritualism, the more you realize the ‘awareness’ of things. At first, you’ll start feeling like everybody around you is stupid or let’s say, unaware of the reality of things. Then at some point, you’ll notice that you too are stupid and don’t know anything, like everybody.

And then again at some point, you’ll realize that it is only you who is unaware, the rest are doing just fine in their life. It makes you restless, and you start to question things that eventually make you feel isolated from everyone else.

And especially, the realization that life has no inherent meaning. Why strive, why love, why make friends when everything is ultimately meaningless?

“The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing”

Socrates

As your intelligence grows, so does your awareness of the vastness of the unknown, the limitations of human understanding, and the ephemeral nature of happiness. You see beyond the surface, the mysteries and the universe, often encountering paradoxes and existential questions that leave others blissfully ignorant.

The Weight of Awareness

Being intelligent often means being acutely aware of the impermanence of things. You understand that happiness is fleeting, relationships are fragile, and even life itself is temporary in the vast cosmic arena.

This awareness can be heavy. It can cause feelings of anxiety, depression, and even a touch of existential angst.

According to me, there’s a simple rule – higher intelligence correlates with suffering and pain. That’s why it is said, “Ignorance is bliss”, because intelligence causes suffering. Intelligence involves understanding your surroundings deeply, realizing your limitations in the vast universe, and knowing that everything is insignificant and makes no sense. It’s all just a human-made concept.

It also means being aware that opening yourself to love comes with the risk of getting hurt. Yet, it’s precisely through facing and overcoming this suffering that you develop a strong heart and the courage to keep living.

If you ever feel you don’t fit into the world, Know the awesomeness of being socially awkward.

Talking about me, I too sometimes feel like I’m living in a different dimension than everyone else. They talk about their weekends, their job, their favourite movie, and family, and I’m lost in the mysteries of the black holes and the fabric of reality. It’s very hard to find someone who understands, who gets the thrill of knowing the universe’s secrets, who adores looking up at the night sky.

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="676" height="676" data-attachment-id="6929" data-permalink="https://theblogera.com/how-knowing-more-can-make-you-feel-alone/knowing-answers-brings-more-questions/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/theblogera.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Knowing-answers-brings-more-questions.jpg?fit=1400%2C1400&ssl=1" data-orig-size="1400,1400" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-title="Knowing-answers-brings-more-questions" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/theblogera.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Knowing-answers-brings-more-questions.jpg?fit=676%2C676&ssl=1" src="https://i0.wp.com/theblogera.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Knowing-answers-brings-more-questions.jpg?resize=676%2C676&ssl=1" alt="How Knowing More Can Make You Feel Alone

So, where does that leave us?

Is intelligence a curse, a one-way ticket to loneliness and suffering? Perhaps it may sound like a paradox of intelligence. The very awareness that brings suffering also empowers us to transcend it.

Even the loneliest genius can find solace in the pursuit of knowledge, the beauty of creation, and the simple act of being human in a vast and mysterious universe.

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances.”

Viktor Frankl, a Holocaust survivor and psychiatrist

What do you think? Is gaining more realization really a curse?

Ever noticed how life is full of advice that contradicts itself?

“Look before you leap.”
But also, “He who hesitates is lost.”

“Good things come to those who wait.”
But also, “The early bird catches the worm.”

Wait a second… so should I wait patiently, or jump quickly? Should I seize the moment or think things through?

The weird truth is: both are true. And their opposites? Also true. Life, as it turns out, is one giant paradoxical ocean, and we’re all swimming in it.

Though I’ve explored this idea before in a blog called “Why Proverbs/Idioms Aren’t Universal”, where I talked about how every proverb seems to have a counter-proverb. You can consider this an extension to that blog.

The Truth About Truth

Let’s take the classic example: “Patience is a virtue.”

Yes, it sounds wise, and sometimes it really is. Like when you’re waiting for your plants to grow, or your career to take off, or your Uber driver who’s taking five extra turns for no reason.

But then comes real life – like standing in a never-ending queue at the coffee shop when you’re already late for work. That’s when the opposite truth kicks in: “Time waits for no one.”

Do you patiently wait and risk being late… or do you ditch the coffee and save your job? Sometimes, virtue needs caffeine. Fast.

So what gives?

The answer is – truth is flexible. It bends, shifts, and stretches depending on the moment, the context, and sometimes, your mood.

Context is everything. What’s true in a calm sea might kill you in a storm. What works at 25 may not work at 45. What saved you last year may suffocate you this year. This is the paradox.

Welcome to the Paradox Club

You’re not crazy for feeling confused. Life is paradoxical. Always has been.

Here are a few more contradictory truths that are both valid:

Be yourself. But also, keep evolving.

Speak your truth. But also, listen deeply.

Don’t care what people think. But also, be empathetic.

Trust the timing of your life. But also, don’t wait forever.

The human brain isn’t too fond of these contradictions. It likes clean answers and clear labels. But real wisdom? It often lives in the tension between opposites.

Think of your beliefs not as permanent ink but as something more flexible, like a sticky note or a pair of flip-flops. Your belief that “hard work pays off” may serve you well, until it burns you out and you realise that sometimes, rest is the real productivity.

Your belief that “love conquers all” might hold you through heartbreak — until you realise that boundaries are love, too.

That doesn’t make your old belief wrong. It just means it had a season.

Beliefs are tools. Not identities. Not prison cells. You don’t have to keep holding onto something just because it once worked.

Let Me Tell You About the Time I Couldn’t Choose Between Two Truths

I once found myself at a fork in the road — not a metaphorical one, an actual one. I was hiking alone, thinking deep thoughts (as one does), and came across two signs. One said, “Shortcut to summit.” The other said, “Scenic long route.”

In one ear, I heard the voice of productivity: “Save time, be efficient. The goal is the summit.”

In the other, the romantic: “Life’s about the journey, not the destination!”

So what did I do?

I stood there. For 10 minutes. Stuck between two perfectly valid truths.

Eventually, I took the long route. It rained. I slipped. I never made it to the summit. But I also saw the most ridiculous double rainbow and had the best sandwich of my life sitting on a rock.

Was it the right choice? Who knows. That’s kind of the point.

Life Isn’t a Test With One Right Answer

We’re taught to look for the answer. The best choice. The ultimate truth. But most of the time, there isn’t one. There are just choices — each with their own flavor of joy, struggle, growth, and surprise.

Sometimes you need to push.
Sometimes you need to surrender.
Sometimes you need to be brave.
Sometimes you need to sit down and cry.

You can’t apply one truth to all of life any more than you can wear flip-flops to a snowstorm. Truth changes with the weather.

The Wisdom of “It Depends”

If I could offer one underrated piece of wisdom, it’s this: ‘It depends.’

It’s not vague. It’s not lazy. It’s actually a sign of maturity.

“It depends” means you understand that every person, every situation, every moment is a universe of its own. And that maybe, just maybe, you don’t need one truth to rule them all.

So, the next time you feel super convinced that you’re right, pause.

Ask yourself, “What would the opposite of this belief look like?”
And then… “Could that also be true for someone else, somewhere, somehow?”

You’ll be amazed at how this opens you up. Not to indecision, but to compassion. To curiosity. To the possibility that there’s more than one way to live.

Surf the Paradox, Don’t Drown in It

We often treat life like a debate. Like, we need to win an argument with the world.

But what if life is more like surfing?

You don’t control the ocean. You don’t pick the waves. But you learn to ride, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, sometimes falling flat on your face, and it’s all part of the ride.

There is wisdom in both waiting and acting. In speaking and staying silent. In holding on and letting go.

You don’t need to pick a side forever. You just need to show up, feel your moment, and choose what fits right now.

So the next time you hear two totally opposite pieces of advice, smile.

You’re not stuck. You’re just surfing the paradox.

P.S. If this idea lit something up in you, go check out my earlier blog: “Why Proverbs/Idioms Aren’t Universal,” or “The Best Advice I’ve Heard So Far“. It dives deeper into how almost every wise saying has an equally wise contradiction – and how you can still find your way through the noise.

Because maybe, the truth is not about choosing one side.

Maybe the truth is: there are many truths. And you’re allowed to live them all.

Guest Post by: Sagar Parida

The metro whispers in muted grief,
words hung heavy, unspoken, unseen.
Faces blur, blundered by silent wars.
Chasing lives, they will never truly live.
Discipline drags where hope has died,
and every sunrise feeds like a surrender.

I came up with this poem or a quote from a quiet moment during my daily metro commute. One day, I took out my earphones and observed the people around me. I noticed their pale faces, the absence of emotion, the silent death in the air of the metro, and how their eyes seemed to have lost their spark.

It was as if they were weighed down by the burdens of life, their thoughts consumed by daily worries, work pressures, and the monotony of routine. This observation of silent despair and the disconnect among people sparked the idea for the poem.

It reflects how, over time, the simple joys and emotions we once had as children can fade, replaced by the relentless demands of adult life.

Secrets are all around us. Though, it’s a general idea that keeping secrets is bad, especially when it comes to relationships. But I think not all secrets are bad, some are in fact important to keep things intact. Now, when I talk about secrets, don’t confuse it with ‘lies’, I’m just a writer, not media.

In a world where information is easy to find, the idea of keeping things secret might seem old-fashioned or even useless. However, secrecy is still a strong and important part of being human. Secrecy is an idea that has fascinated us for a long time. It’s found in everything we do daily, from what governments do secretly to what we tell our friends and family, and even the whole universe, filled with mysteries.

Keeping secrets is about withholding information intentionally. It might be because you’re protecting someone, maintaining privacy, or simply not ready to share. Telling lies is about intentionally providing false information. It’s often done to deceive or mislead. The reasons why we keep secrets are different, often connected to our feelings, how we get along with others, and what is important to us.

Not All Secrets Are Bad

Secrecy is like a fence around our lives. It helps us keep things private and safe. When we keep secrets, we protect our feelings, identity, and privacy. This is a good way to take care of yourself by keeping things close to your heart, you feel safe and can do things independently.

Chanakya, an ancient Indian polymath once said:

If you can’t keep your secret, how you can expect someone to keep your secret

Sometimes, secrets are necessary for self-preservation. Sharing too much with the wrong people can put you at risk.

We all have secrets. Some are big, some are small. Some we share with others, and some we keep to ourselves.

Hidden Power of Secrecy in Personal Relationships

Now, this doesn’t mean secrets should be used to manipulate or deceive—far from it.

In relationships, a little mystery can be a good thing. Being kind and thoughtful about it can make your connection with your partner even stronger. Giving each other some personal space can be a way to show respect for who you both are. By respecting each other’s boundaries, you can both grow and be yourselves. This helps you trust each other more.

Sometimes mystery can even help keep your relationship strong and healthy. It can help you avoid arguments and focus on what matters the most. It also allows you to share what you love about each other without hurting each other’s feelings. For Example, when we don’t like our partner’s pov and any other things which might create chaos at that time we can postpone things for the future and wait for the right time to talk.

When partners respect each other’s privacy and encourage self-reliance, they can feel more independent and emotionally strong. This helps them trust each other and feel good about their relationship. In many cultures, it’s important to keep some things private in a relationship. This can help protect your relationship from outside influences and keep your feelings safe. By not sharing everything with everyone, you can let your relationship grow at its own pace and stay connected to each other.

Hidden Power of Secrecy in the Digital Age

In today’s world, it’s important to keep some things private. This helps protect our personal information from being stolen or used in bad ways. For businesses, keeping things secret is very important. It protects special information and plans, helping companies stay ahead of others and safe from spies. Secrecy can help creativity and innovation by keeping ideas safe. This allows people to think without worrying about others seeing their ideas.

In research and development, this secrecy can lead to new discoveries in technology, medicine, and engineering. When people trust that their ideas are private, they can build stronger relationships with each other. In business and politics, keeping things secret can be helpful. Companies can hide their plans from competitors. Diplomats can talk about important things without others knowing. People who tell secrets about bad things can do it without getting into trouble.

For example, In 1998, India conducted a series of nuclear tests in Rajasthan. These tests were called ‘Operation Shakti.’ They were underground explosions and took place in the Pokhran area. The Indian government kept these tests a secret to avoid being watched by other countries and their personal interest like the United States of America` and to stop them from interfering. They were very careful about keeping it secret, and even many people who worked for the government and the army didn’t know about the tests until right before they happened.

India was able to show its nuclear power without being pressured by superpowers or attacked by other countries. This was important because India has neighbours that also have nuclear weapons, like China and Pakistan. By keeping this a secret, India was able to do what it wanted and stay safe.

Sometimes, governments need to keep things secret to protect us. This isn’t just about hiding things, but also about staying safe and making good choices without others interfering. It’s like a parent who knows when to tell their child something to build trust.

Protecting the Beauty of Life

Secrecy also has a role in preserving the beauty of certain things. When you keep a secret, you’re safeguarding something precious. Think of a relationship in its early stages. There’s a sweetness in the quiet moments shared between just the two of you. These secrets are not about deception but about creating a safe space where intimacy can flourish without external judgment or interference.

People often tend to ruin beautiful things, whether out of jealousy, misunderstanding, or simply a desire to impose their views. This isn’t about living a double life but about honouring the sacredness of your personal experiences and relationships.

Also, there’s a saying:

A Fish with Its Mouth Closed Never Gets Caught

Secrets can be good or bad, they can protect us or hurt us, depending on how we use them. In our relationships, work, and government, deciding to keep things secret or tell the truth has big consequences.

Secrets are a part of who we are. They can be a source of strength, power, and protection. So don’t be afraid to keep your secrets. Just be sure to choose your secrets wisely and to keep them safe.

Eavesdropping on a discussion the other day, I listened as the parties argued “Do pets have a place in Heaven?”

There seemed to be four opinions. The first opinion declared that pets did not go to Heaven, so when they died, they just ceased to exist. The second opinion stated that a separate Heaven for all animals existed. The third opinion declared that only good animals went to Heaven, and the bad animals went to Hades.

The fourth (and my personal favorite) insisted that our pets and all animals for that matter went to the same Heaven as humans did.

Please allow me to make my case for number four. First of all, I should mention that I am an avid animal lover. I love all animals and support ASPA, our local humane shelter, and other animal organizations. I have enjoyed the company of many dogs and even a couple of cats over the years. LOL!

“Maggie”

Currently, my best friend is “Maggie” a precocious, active, devoted, loving, one-year-old beagle. Her photo certainly adorns above and greatly improves this article. I wanted her to have a biblical name, but I also wanted her to be named “Maggie”, so I got creative. Her name is officially, “Mary Magdalene.” Maggie for short.

Follow The Science?

Reading scientific articles on animal death is like reading scientific articles on human death. There is talk of decomposing and the chemicals released back into the soil etc. But science “generally” does not believe humans have souls, much less animals having souls.

Science says when you’re dead you’re dead. While that’s true about any physical body, most faiths believe that there is an afterlife. I am a Christian, a man of faith, so I rely on the bible when there is any issue in my life. My faith may be different from yours, but most faiths believe in some sort of afterlife.

Lifetime Here Is a Tiny Speck of Eternity

Some religions believe in reincarnation, that animals can be reincarnated as humans and vice-versa. Religious leaders and scholars sometimes even disagree within the same faith.

Some Popes like Pope Pious did not believe animals went to Heaven, but Pope Paul VI and other Popes did. My heart was lifted by the Rev. Billy Graham’s statement that animal lovers will be reunited with their beloved critters in heaven.

I also liked Rev. Graham’s response to a letter asking if their pet would be reunited with them in the afterlife. Rev. Graham responded, “God will provide us with everything we need to be happy in Heaven — and if our pets are necessary to make us completely happy there, you can be confident He will arrange for them to be with us.”

Important

We are told in the Bible that there will be a “New Heaven and a new Earth.” We will not be floating around on a cloud in the sky as sometimes depicted by Hollywood. Heaven is described much as the “Garden of Eden” with rivers, trees, animals, and good food.

I am looking forward to that (I don’t mean just the food). Ha Ha!

In Addition

The Bible supports my hope and belief on this subject in many ways. “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, The calf and the young lion and the falling together; And a little child shall lead them. Isiah 11:6 KJV Buddhists refer to the “thread of karma,” the chain of life, and a continuity of constant becoming.

It’s a belief that every life form has intelligence and worth whether it is a rock, a dog, a cat, an ant, a plant or a human. “We say that animals are living the same lives that humans live,” explains the Rev. Carol Mudd, a priest at the Zen Center of Orange County in Costa Mesa. “An animal’s spiritual life is the same as humans.”

In Hinduism, dogs are seen as loyal and protective animals, and it is believed that they will be rewarded in their next life for their devotion. In ancient Egyptian culture, dogs were often depicted in artwork and were believed to be protectors of the dead.

Whatever you believe about animals being at your side in Heaven or the afterlife, the most important decision in everyone’s life is for you to consider what your own afterlife will look like. Personally, I am absolutely confident that The Bible is the most accurate book we have of historical events, and it is the breathed word of God.

Therefore

If you would like to feel confident and at ease with your eternity, Romans 10:9 says that “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

We all are offered eternal life together with no more pain or strife (maybe even along with our pets).

It is the language that we can communicate our feelings & thoughts so easily. Language is by far the most important element of any culture and civilization that exists on this planet. But what would the world be like if everyone spoke the same language? What if there were one world one language?

As of today, there are over 7000 languages spoken worldwide, but only around 30 of them are well recognized and account for more than half of the world’s population, in which English has a more global influence than any other. But despite this, it is still not officially considered an international language.

Let us suppose if the world had only one language to communicate? Wouldn’t it be better for all of us? or, is it even possible to have one global language? What would have been the scenario then?

Here’s what the world would look like from my perspective:

A World That Speaks the Same Language (Positive Impact)

According to my opinion, there are a variety of reasons why it would have been better. If you look at the positive side, you’ll find:

We can travel to any part of the World with confidence and without obstacles as there is no language barrier.

We all have the same sort of music and understanding the lyrics of Despacito, Lemalem, and Alors on Danse & Gangnam style would be just a cup of tea.

Telecommunications of all sorts would be easier. You can easily communicate with fourth-world communities, which aren’t a normal part of society.

Leaders of various governments would have a meeting without the fear of being misunderstood.

All the novels and literature need not be translated and can be read in the original. As translation can never do justice to the spirit and elegance of the original.

Although interpreters and translators lost their jobs we would save billions on translation costs.

Writers all around the world would get a way higher number of views and authors can sell their books anywhere they want.

Language barriers would not be used as an excuse for misunderstandings.

A single language would enable new forms of global artistic expression and collaboration.

A more unified world could require new forms of global governance to address challenges like climate change and resource distribution.

Standardized education systems would be easier to implement.

The pressure to learn multiple languages would be eliminated.

And there is one thing I can say It would have been much easier for us to write here without letting people misunderstand them. Because it happens a lot when English is not your first language.

Sometimes people misunderstand what we are trying to say, just because of language barriers and cultural differences. There is a direct correlation between writers and communications.

Writers written work may not be coming out exactly as they mean, and English as the first language speaker may be taking it the wrong way.

Just for example, calling someone ‘Dear’ might be a nice gesture from you but it might be extremely condescending in other parts of the world if you don’t know each other.

Calling women ‘divas’ might be normal in your society but it is also often used as an insult in various regions of the world. It may look normal to you but have a huge impact on how someone takes your words because the language barriers exist between you and them.

So, imagine if everyone spoke the same language (except accents) wouldn’t it have been a blessing for all of us?

A World That Speaks the Same Language (Negative Impact)

Well, it has its pros that would have brought a completely different picture of the world. But there would have been some serious concerns also, for instance:

With one world and one language, the difference between cultures would start to diminish too.

The joy of learning a new language and other cultures would be eliminated forever.

If everyone spoke the same language there would be no privacy.

Talking in the native language in other countries is a matter of pride, that’ll be lost.

Many languages are already endangered. A monolingual world would accelerate this process.

While a common language can facilitate communication, it doesn’t guarantee peace.

A single language could facilitate the spread of propaganda and disinformation.

A single language could facilitate the spread of harmful ideas and ideologies.

A single global language could have unforeseen effects on mental health and cognitive processes.

Constant communication in a single language might lead to mental exhaustion.

So, with global language, our World would become a boring place to live.

Many believe that perhaps English can be the global language of communication as it has more influence. But the truth is, no one wants to ever give up their Mother tongue or native language as it’s a part of their culture.

Let’s take my country, I’m from India, previously colonized by the British Empire. Therefore, despite Sanskrit being our deeply rooted language, English has a greater influence on our society. And, this is also because of the fact that the spread of the English language occurred parallel to the spread of the British Empire. Many erroneously believe that Sanskrit is a dead language, but the fact is that it is very much alive today.

And ironically, the British now have many universities which teach Sanskrit to every child for the first five years, Even Germany also has several colleges and universities teaching Sanskrit in Europe.

The ancient Indian scriptures are a window to the National soul of India, and most of the scriptures are in Sanskrit. Sanskrit can be called the ‘Grand Mother tongue’ of every Indian and European.

In a country as diverse as India where there are 22 official languages, English is among them. There is a huge linguistic ocean of 122 to 300 major languages and around 1600 lesser know-ones. After every 15-20 Km language and accent change in my country.

As Kailash Kher, a famous Indian singer once said, “For us Indians, I don’t think English can ever exclude that magic of emotions which our Mother tongue can”. Therefore, people would never want to leave their native language as it connects them to their roots.

Surprisingly, most of the languages we speak today are somewhere interdependent on each other if we go back in time. You can easily find similarities among some oldest languages like Greek, Latin, Sanskrit, Arabic, etc. Some words we speak in our language have had origin in some others.

For instance, English has borrowed words from numerous languages. Examples include “sushi” (Japanese), “karma” (Sanskrit), “café” (French), and “pizza” (Italian). Spanish has incorporated words from indigenous languages like Nahuatl (Aztec) and Guarani. Examples include “chocolate” and “tomato.”

But, Despite this deep linguistic ocean around the world, expert agrees that there are fewer languages around today than yesterday.

The United Nations observed:

“When language fade, so does the world’s richest tapestry of cultural diversity”

When a language dies, a whole culture dies. Losing a language is like losing an identity.

According to UNESCO, 230 languages have fallen silent since 1950, disappearing forever. Moreover, a staggering one-third of the world’s languages currently have fewer than 1,000 speakers. When the last speaker of a language passes away, the language itself dies with it, taking its unique culture, history, and identity with it.

Learning a language is not only learning the alphabet meanings and arrangement of words but also learning the society and its cultural customs.

Other languages like English provide you wings to fly but your native language is the indispensable root.

So, what do you think of a world where everyone spoke the same language? Let us know down below.

Most people have this perception that procrastination is a bad thing which is a general rule of thumb, but honestly, it isn’t necessarily true. In fact, sometimes it is better to procrastinate on your work. Most people would like to disagree but I’ll tell you how and why you shouldn’t always feel bad about putting things off.

If you’re a procrastinator, which most probably you are, and you feel guilty about it, then it is important to understand that procrastination isn’t a real problem, the real problem lies somewhere else. And once you figure out that problem you won’t worry about this procrastinating thing.

It’s a myth that procrastination is bad

Procrastination is the act of putting off your work until the last minute, at which point you realize you have no time to do it. It’s a bummer and we all know this. But procrastination isn’t always bad! There are many different kinds of procrastination, and some things might be better left undone.

Some people are better able to use procrastination to their advantage than others—whether it’s because they’re better at planning ahead or simply more comfortable with not finishing anything that didn’t start out as a priority in the first place.

You don’t have to feel bad about not accomplishing everything on your list, just focus on what matters most and leave the rest for tomorrow. This is counted as procrastination but for a good reason.

Most people tend to believe that procrastination is the opposite of productivity, it’s a sign of laziness. And, I think a lot of us think we all are procrastinators because we always have a sense of guilt that as of now we should be doing something.

However, if you think closely, you’ll find Procrastination itself can be used as an effective tool for productivity. You just need to learn the art of prioritization and which work should be done & why or when you’ll do it.

Understanding this will greatly help you in elevating your productivity through the process of procrastination.

Procrastination & Productivity

Procrastination isn’t always bad. In fact, there are times when it’s useful to procrastinate. It may even help you save time for better use.

Procrastination can help you prioritize your tasks and figure out what’s most important to do first. It can also help keep your schedule organized and prevent you from doing things that are unimportant or stressful (like watching TV).

And if all else fails, and sometimes it does, procrastinating can be a great way to avoid doing something completely outside of your control. You can see a lot of examples around you where people who procrastinate are more productive.

There are many different kinds of procrastination

Procrastination is a broad term that refers to any behavior that impedes productivity. There are many different reasons why people procrastinate: they might be distracted, anxious, or afraid of failing to do tasks. Some people also procrastinate because of the feeling of running out of time.

Some people do not even realize when they are procrastinating until they start feeling guilty about it! In fact, if we were all equally good at getting things done on time then no one would ever feel bad about anything—but thankfully this isn’t true!

Some things might be better left undone

Some things might be better left undone. For example, if you’re trying to get into shape and you’re supposed to do five sets of bicep curls, then one set is going to be enough for your purposes (or at least it will be if everything else is going right).

Some things are better left undone because they aren’t important. Maybe all your life’s problems are solved by this little philosophy. Maybe the next great invention was created by a man with no legs who lived in the forest? Or maybe what we need right now isn’t just another new product or service, it’s simply more time alone with our cats (or dogs).

Some things are better left undone because they aren’t interesting enough for us yet. You could spend years learning how to play the ukulele and still find yourself bored within minutes of picking up that instrument.

Likewise, there may be some skills necessary for success which haven’t yet been discovered or invented by anyone else; these gaps can provide opportunities worth pursuing even though such pursuits may seem difficult at first glance!

Procrastination and laziness aren’t the same things

You may think that laziness and procrastination are the same things. But they’re not! Laziness is the lack of motivation to do something, while procrastination can be fear of failure or success.

Laziness can be overcome by setting goals for yourself and figuring out how you are going to meet them—you’ll feel more motivated when you see your progress on paper. Procrastination often stems from fear; if we aren’t sure what will happen if we fail at something or get an assignment wrong, then it’s harder for us to take action in order for our fears not to come true (or worse).

The Art of Prioritization

Procrastination is a way of prioritizing things. When you procrastinate, you’re saying “I don’t care about this task or project.” You are making a choice that this task or project does not deserve your time and energy as of now. If we were all forced to do everything at once (which is impossible), we’d never get anything done.

Procrastination is also an effective tool for dealing with anxiety: You can use it as an excuse to put off tackling something until later on down the line when other emotions like stress or worry might make it impossible for you to focus on specific tasks without getting distracted by them too much.

Just because you don’t want to do something doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it

It is a general belief that procrastination is bad. After all, it’s not a good thing to put off doing something until the last minute and then feel guilty about it later. But sometimes, procrastinating can actually be helpful!

For example, many people find themselves in situations where they need to write a report or an essay at work but don’t want to do it right away because it requires too much effort, but then they realize that what they really want is more time off work so they can spend more time relaxing with friends or family members who are important parts of their lives.

In this case (and others like it), knowing how much energy you have left after working hard on something can help you determine whether or not what needs doing today will make sense later down the road.

And I believe productivity at work should be such that you save enough time during or at the end of the day, for yourself, friends and family. That’s what it should actually mean in these modern worlds where everyone is just running day & night to get the task done before stepping into deadlines.

Related Post: Productivity at Work is not what you think it is

While procrastination may sometimes help in doing important tasks as a priority, however, if we’re not careful and misunderstand what’s important and what’s not then it will eventually create problems.

If we’re not careful, we can get bogged down by doing less important tasks and ignoring or delaying the more important ones. And, it’s easy to get caught up in the moment and spend time on things that aren’t as important, especially that infinite scrolling on social media.

So, there you have it. Procrastination isn’t always bad unless you intend to make it a bad and sort of a regular habit. In fact, some people use it to their advantage and others find themselves stuck in endless cycles of doing what they don’t want to do.

If you think that your procrastination is hindering your life or causing more problems than it solves, then you need to understand it takes no time for ‘Later’ to become ‘Never’.

I guess when we ask ourselves this question the answer will depend on what is happening in our lives during that particular moment. If you are on vacation, maybe you are on a cruise. You might be sitting on the deck, looking out over the ocean at a beautiful sunset.

You have not a care in the world except wondering what you will have tonight for entertainment, food, and drink, then it is indeed a wonderful life.

And that is the way it should be. We can all take advantage when times are good and find the enjoyment in our lives, whatever that may be. It does not have to be an expensive cruise. It can be the smallest of things.

Myself, I find great solace and comfort just being out walking in nature. I am blessed to be living in the Ozark Mountains and it costs nothing to go hiking.

I can see the same beautiful sun that is seen from the deck of a ship setting over the mountains. I look in awe at the majestic colors and beauty of the mountains as the orange sun lights them up. No sunset is exactly the same.

The sky and clouds have slowly painted the colors of turquoise, red, orange, and even colors with no name. It is at these times that I feel closest to my God. It is at these times that I know that all these things, the perfect balance of nature could be no accident. To me, this is all the evidence needed that God created the earth and everything in it.

One thing that brings a wonderful life to most of us is family. There are sometimes spats that can keep us at odds with some family members. A very wise man told me, remember that this family member or friend that you are at odds with is like a growing sore on your heart.

Only you can stop it from growing. But, for the most part, family is the glue that bonds us together. We all gather for birthdays, Christmas, and other holidays. It’s some of the happiest times during our wonderful lives.

And grandkids are the best!

Now, I am not ignorant, nor would I think you to be. It is written that, “In this life, you will have hardship.” To think differently would be naive. There are a lot of ugly things going on in the world right now.

I will be 71 this Summer and I can make a long “Hardship list.” But I will not, nor will I ever make such a list. Being a recovering pessimist, that list has been put in “the vault.”

What makes you happy? People find joy everywhere. It’s there for you. I see people finding wonderful enjoyment in their gardens or even the kitchen. Heck, I love to cook, and I am in awe of how simple ingredients come together to make an amazing dish.

Indian food is probably the best example of using spices to make something bland and uninviting into a masterpiece!

My point is, do not be a “Negative Nancy.” Find happiness in your life. It does not have to be expensive. You may be the only person who knows the things that make you happy. We all have a limited amount of time on this earth.

Make sure you don’t waste your time with sores on your heart or just accept what comes along.

Make sure that your life is one of those “wonderful lives.”
