How Satisfied Are You With Your Current Life?

In this modern world, everyone wants to build good fortune, healthy relationships, and a better world only for themselves. It’s not bad to be a little selfish for the sake of oneself, right? But what if these things ruin your contentedness? What if you still remain unsatisfied with what you have in your current life?

There’s no doubt that the main purpose of our backbreaking work is to eventually bear the smile and happiness in the end. However, still, with all this chaos and pursuit we are somewhere failing to match the satisfaction level that we expected in return.

I agree if you’re seeking a lap of luxury, you have to work well, really well, you have to be greedy sometimes. Everything is essential in life, like money, time, friends, family, house, & education. Yet in this rat race, something we are vacating is β€˜Contentedness.’

Contentment is a feeling or state of sense that comes with being satisfied with what we have and what we become in our life. When you are content with yourself, you probably care about the external force which is letting you down and demoralizing you. Being content is just one way to be happy.

Happiness is self Contentedness.

As I said, everyone wants to look & feel good and happy every time. Also, everyone faces problems in their life, life doesn’t always go the way we have planned for. And then, we became frustrated with ourselves, it became hard for us to stay positive and satisfied.

So, what’s the reason behind making you feel unsatisfied with life? Why we are still not blessed with what we have?

Reasons Why We Are Never Satisfied With Our Life

Envy

We have always heard in our surroundings, β€œlook at your opponent, he/she is doing so good and where do you stand? You’re good for nothing”. And by listening to these words our self-respect hurts and we start demonstrating them wrong. There is nothing bad about it right? But what happens instead of improving ourselves we started viewing our friends as rivals and developing a sense of envy?

We’ll slowly assassinate our relationships. It’ll not only harm our relationship with them but also we start making the wrong perception about them. When we battle with these types of emotions over the long term, it can affect our health both mentally and physically. Indirectly, Jealousy affects our contentedness or cease us from being satisfied with our reality.

Hunger For Success

β€œStay hungry and follow your dreams”- jack ma, β€œThe people who want to step into their greatness are hungry!” – Less Brown. We always find ourselves with these types of quotes about success. Everyone is hungry for success, and there is nothing wrong with it. All of us have the right to be successful. But the problem is many hungry people don’t realize, what is success? Since the definition of success is not universal. It keeps changing.

But one universal fact that can be quoted about success is that – β€˜Success means being satisfied with what you have and what you have achieved.’ Now, one can argue that if we get satisfied easily so how we will further improve ourselves? Being satisfied with the things you have hands-on and trying to work better are two different spaces.

You don’t need to earn millions to find happiness but as a matter of fact, is what you choose to be content with. If you are satisfied with the things you have in your life then you will start appreciating and enjoying even β€˜small’ things. It will help you to be more focused and will keep you remain motivated to do better in your life.

Modernization

Modernization has made our life easy and it has opened lots of opportunities to grow faster. But at the same time, it might have put the world under depression. For instance, Smartphones brought a revolution to the modern era and no one has imagined that this small piece of equipment can do so many things at the same time.

But recall the pre-modernization era, and compare it with nowadays we will find people from that time are much happier in a way. Even though they don’t have that luxury.

But now we can see bending heads on Mobile Phones everywhere, whether it’s Metro, Public buses, family functions, etc. This is after modernization got its pace.

The advancement in technology also expands the level of satisfaction. And we have to compete with it otherwise we’ll be left behind. The level of satisfaction isn’t still it keeps moving up & up with the modernization and growth of humankind.

So, we can say that modernization is somewhere also the reason that snatching our little moments of happiness, just because there is so much to achieve.

Complaining Nature

There is no doubt that human beings’ desires are infinite. It keeps escalating every day because we always want better in our life. I think everyone acts like a crybaby. We never take accountability for what we do despite we put figures on others. Often we blame others for our wrong decisions.

We should look at people lower than us to be thankful because there are millions of people away from the necessities which you are enjoying right now.

The last week on my way back home, I saw two small kids come up to me asking for money. I gave them money and witnessed the exceptional smile on their faces. They both were siblings and probably of age 5 and 4, they started dancing and were looking much happier than any other man around there, including me. I know that a small amount of money will not change their life but the satisfaction on their face was clicked in my mind that this is true happiness that the world is lacking.

How We Can Be Satisfied With What We Have?

Add simplicity to your life

Being simple simply means asking why do you want more or finding the reason for your hunger. Simplicity means being content with less and finding happiness in small things. I am not discouraging you not to doing some big rather encouraging you to focus on what you have and despite unnecessary pushing yourself into the swamp.

When you will find the root cause of wanting more and will be satisfied with what you own, then you can focus more on your current life which is extremely beautiful.

Keep Yourself With Good Surrounding

Daniel Kahneman, Noble Prize Winner and an author of Thinking, Fast and slow explains, β€œHappiness Is being Happy in your life. We experienced it immediately and at the moment. Life satisfaction is being happy about your life. It is the happiness that exists when we talk about the past and the big picture.”

Want more life satisfaction? Read this.

Having good people around us that understand us is no less than a blessing. If there’s someone in your life where you feel more secure and happy when you get each other company then it’s the biggest power you have. That’s the biggest reason for your happy life, you just have to realize that. Otherwise, people will always be going to taunt you for whatever you do.

Keep Your Chin Up

A simple smile on your face can be a game-changer in your life. The smile on your face not just makes you good but also releases stress and creates endorphins that will make you happier and more positive all day.

Everyone faces problems in their life but the choice is yours that how you want to tackle these situations. With stress and remains unsatisfied or keep smiling and feeling strong.

At last, I want to say everything depends on us, everyone faces problems, but it depends on us what we choose. Either we choose to remain negative and unsatisfied or keep ourselves positive and let the things go which is not in our hand.

Always look lower than you to be blessed and always look higher than you to set priorities. But never compare yourself with others, everyone has their own share of accomplishments. You have a great purpose in your life.

And remember, an egoist can never be satisfied by what he has, and an innocent can never be worried about what he hasn’t.

  • This is a great and thought-provoking post. From my perspective on life I can honestly say I am happy with my life, I see so many who have a much more difficult one than I do. I have learnt from a life that was never affluent to be accepting on what I cannot change to change with passion what I can and have WIsdom higher than my own to know the difference. This is contentment and CONTENTMENT is better than being HAPPY. kNowing you have HOPE when you walk with faith in the Saviour of your soul makes this journey of Life have value. Living for others and caring beyond your own life makes for contentment as well. Live happily and well!

    • It's good to hear that you are content with your life. As you said, living for others is a good part of making your life worthy and feel blessed. Many people don't know what is real contentment, living your life happily and enjoying the small things is real contentment.
Thank you Faye for always keeping our motivation high😊.

  • In life
    every human has
    experiences its own time

    the pain
    the misery
    the joy
    the fear
    the death

there is a time for everything in a human life

  • This is pretty interesting. Contentment is a virtue that seems to be fading away fast.
In the search for better, we tend to go forget the good we have.
    Nice post.

    • Yes, we are always busy searching for happiness. But real happiness is being content with what you have ❀.
Thank you for your appreciation 😊

  • Look at the picture with the two brothers smiling, and the reason is YOU. For me, such human behaviour has greatest importance. I have done it few times, so I can understand.

On the contrary point, there are business gurus who tells you what is important? How to think and act? and that they'll make you rich and change your life. I disagree here.

We all have defined roles in the society, which includes teaching, learning, transportation, selling, leadership, media and security etc. We should, honestly, keep doing our job. That's the satisfaction.

This post clarified my thoughts. And I welcome more posts on such interesting individual and society related topics.

    • Well said, God, make us with certain reasons so that we can do our job for the welfare of others. But at the same time, we choose to do the job which is out of our space and become uncontended.
      Thank you for your appreciation

  • It has always seemed that no matter where I was, what I had, who I was with, I always wanted something else, always more. It was never ending. The best I have learned is: "wherever you are, BE THERE."

    • Being successful means being content with what you have. When we started enjoying little things, having a desire for something more is natural but we should also be greatful for what God has given us.

    • Just wanted to say a few lines which i learnt while preparing for my social science exam-
      1. The Buddha taught that life is full of suffering and unhappiness. This is caused because we have cravings and desires (which often cannot be fulfilled).
      2. Sometimes, even if we get what we want, we are not satisfied, and want even more (or want other things).
      3. He taught people to be kind, and to respect the lives of others, including animals.
      4. He taught that this constant craving could be removed by following moderation in everything.

      • Indeed, Buddha preaches to recognize the joy and abundance of nature. He sublimes the message of love and self-discipline.

      • Thank you so much for sharing these lines which you have known through study of social science. All lines are very important to understand and follow.
        Regards πŸ™πŸ˜Š

        • I apologize for responding to your comment so late Arun. And yes you are right! Thanks for reading my comment!

  • I believe in this mantra "life is to live in uncertainty and move on" and your posts reflect this phrase perfectly. Many misunderstand that satisfaction comes from acquiring when contributing is the key. Efforts are needed for a wholesome life and understanding when to unplug the unwarranted pursuits. Thank you for this amazing insights.

    • Well said, the key to living life is enjoying everything, every moment you have. Unnecessarily crushing your satisfaction with the things which are not in your control is not a good choice. So it's better to move on and let things away which are making you unsatisfied.
Thank you for your appreciation ❣

  • I don't think being content with what you have should mean that you do not have meaningful goals that you work toward. I think that contentment comes from doing what you feel is right and from what you can accomplish by your efforts. Balance is important. We need time to rest and reflect as well as work.

    • Indeed, being content means we should be satisfied with our work. Managing various priorities and keeping yourself happy is the true example of contentedness. And that is the name of life when we are happy with our life.
      Thank you

  • Lots of great food for thought in your post Deepak. Awesome job! πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ‘πŸ‘

  • Thanks Deepak! Today was my last exam and it was sst. I had read about the teachings of Buddha while preparing for the exam and I am thankful to you for posting this as well. Please post something related to Buddha and Mahavira! Thanks!

  • Wonderful post
    Need of the hour
Thank you so much for bringing this post.
We must be satisfied with what we have.
We have this Universe, this Sun and solar system.
    This Earth 🌎
    The Air and Water πŸ’¦
We must be happy with these.
    Great post πŸ˜ŠπŸ™

  • Love this. I think sometimes it takes us TOO long to learn, or appreciate what we have. I am in... content? yes. It is all about balancing for me. Love your writing, Donna
