His surname means destruction in Hindi. ‘Tabahi’. That’s the name he goes by on social media, the name people know him by, the name that spread across the internet this year attached to videos of a young man standing knee-deep in filth, pulling garbage out of a river with his bare hands.

The name is a joke, of sorts. Or maybe it isn’t. Because Bittu Tabahi did set out to destroy something. Just not what the name implies.

He wanted to destroy the pollution that had swallowed the Ajnar River whole.

What He Found

Surendra Singh Choudhry, aka Bittu Tabahi, is a 20-year-old college student from Biaora in Rajgarh district, Madhya Pradesh, India, pursuing his BSc degree. The Ajnar River runs through his hometown, past a temple he knew well. And the river was in a state that most people had simply stopped seeing.

Plastic bags. Discarded bottles. Religious offerings left to decompose in the water. Algae spreading where the water should have flowed. The water was barely visible beneath the garbage in several stretches.

He was disheartened. And then, instead of staying disheartened, he made a decision.

Republic Day, 2026

On January 26, 2026, while others celebrated Republic Day, Bittu stepped into the river and began cleaning it. He started with almost nothing. No gloves. No boots.

Just himself, the river, and the garbage that had accumulated there for years while everyone waited for someone else to deal with it.

Unlike large-scale government clean-up drives that use machinery, Tabahi’s campaign was almost entirely manual. Armed with basic tools and often working without protective gear, Tabahi entered the polluted river to remove plastic bags, bottles, and algae by hand.

He filmed it. He posted it. And the videos started travelling.

What the River Cost Him

This is the part of the story that sits with you.

The polluted water caused skin infections and irritation on his hands and feet. However, he continued working on the river for months.

No funding. No support from local authorities. Skin infections from the very water he was trying to clean. And criticism – from locals who accused him of doing it for social media attention, of performing kindness rather than practising it.

He kept going anyway. His persistence produced visible results, with before-and-after images shared online showing dramatic improvements in several sections of the Ajnar River.

The river that had been invisible beneath its own garbage started to look like a river again.

Who Noticed

The videos reached people far beyond Biaora.

Mahindra shared Bittu’s story on social media and called him his Monday Motivation. Anand Mahindra, industrialist, one of the most prominent businessmen in India, saw a young BSc student standing in a polluted river without gloves and called him an inspiration to the country.

And then a Dutch CEO reached out with something more concrete: a job offer. “Come work for us,” the message said, a water management company in the Netherlands, recognising in Bittu’s work an instinct for environmental stewardship that most professionals spend years trying to cultivate.

Tabahi’s work has sparked a larger conversation about civic responsibility and local authorities’ roles. Many social media users questioned why an individual had to take on work that local authorities are expected to handle.

It’s a fair question. And it doesn’t have a comfortable answer.

The Larger Thing

There is something in Bittu Tabahi’s story that goes beyond inspiration, something slightly uncomfortable, actually. Because the Ajnar River didn’t become a dumping ground overnight. It got there gradually, one discarded bottle at a time, while everyone who walked past decided it wasn’t their problem.

Bittu didn’t have more resources than anyone else. He didn’t have protective gear, or funding, or official support. He had a river he cared about and the willingness to get into it, literally, and start pulling things out.

His aim has been to destroy pollution and restore a river that had been neglected for years.

Tabahi. Destruction. The name fits after all – just not the way anyone expected.

One young man, a river, and months of quiet work that nobody asked him to do. The Ajnar is cleaner for it. And somewhere in the Netherlands, a CEO looked at those videos and thought: that person understands something important.

He does. He just learned it standing in polluted water without any gloves.

Note: This Kindness Report is a little different from the usual ones. It’s not one story – it’s many. And it happened right here in India, this week, in a city some of us call home.

For nearly two months, thousands of young people from across India have been sitting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, in the July heat, asking for something simple: accountability. The protests, led by a youth movement called the Cockroach Janta Party, were about a lot of things. Exam paper leaks. A generation that felt ignored. A system that kept failing the people it was supposed to serve.

The Kindness Report doesn’t take political sides. But it does notice what happens between human beings when a crowd of tired, hungry, far-from-home young people sits down on a pavement and refuses to leave.

What happened in Delhi this past week was remarkable. And most of it had nothing to do with politics.

Nobody Asked Them to Send Food

Hundreds of food delivery orders began pouring in at the protest site at Jantar Mantar, placed by anonymous supporters from across the country who could not attend but wanted to show up in the only way they could.

It started with one viral video. A delivery partner arrived at the site and announced: “Someone named Anuj Rawat from Mumbai, Maharashtra, ordered the food and asked us to distribute it to anyone hungry at Jantar Mantar. The payment has already been made online.”

That was the spark. What followed was a flood.

Countless orders arrived – chai and samosas, vada pav, veg thalis, biryani, pizzas. No name, no details – just “Jantar Mantar” as the address. The food was arranged like a buffet, and anyone who wanted could take what they liked.

So much food arrived that the movement’s own social media account eventually had to post a message asking people to pause: “We have enough food for today! Please do not send any more food, as we want to ensure nothing goes to waste.”

Someone wrote in response: “This is not the power of social media. This is the power of love.”

The Gurdwaras That Never Closed

After Monday’s police crackdown, gurdwaras across the city threw open their doors to supporters – balconies, verandahs, guest rooms, all of it. Bangla Sahib, Rakab Ganj Sahib, Sis Ganj Sahib in Chandni Chowk, all opened to protesters looking for a meal, shelter, and first aid.

The sewadars (volunteers who serve at gurdwaras) had a long night after the march. When the injured started arriving at around 4 pm, all sewadars, including devotees, left everything and helped. Every injured person received first aid. When the kitchen tried to take food to the protest site and was stopped by police, they simply opened the doors wider and let everyone come to them. There was food for everybody.

When asked about it, one sewadar said something that deserves to be quoted in full: “These are our children.”

Mosques joined in too. The Man Singh Road mosque ensured 24×7 water supply for all. “We do not discriminate on the basis of religion, caste or gender. All are welcome,” said its custodian.

The Strangers Who Showed Up in Person

Volunteers, vendors, and community groups turned Jantar Mantar into a massive open kitchen – distributing free meals, fruits, water, and even golgappas to students who had been sitting in the heat since morning.

One college student distributing water bottles put it simply: “It is very hot, and many students have been here since morning. If giving someone a bottle of water helps them stay here a little longer, that is enough for me.”

A man showed up with coconuts. Another arrived with boxes of pizza. An auto driver gave free rides to exhausted protesters at 3 in the morning. Office-goers stopped on their way to work. Elderly citizens and children stood side by side serving meals. People who disagreed with each other on everything else agreed on this: these young people deserved to eat.

What Happened at Jantar Mantar Went Deeper Than Food

A B.Com graduate named Manish Kumar from Karnal arrived with just Rs 400 in his pocket, boarded a bus to Kashmere Gate, and walked 7 kilometres to the site. He said he had made friends for life – from MP, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Assam. Doctors, engineers, bank employees. “I have had conversations over chai with people I would not have met otherwise.”

That’s the quiet thing that happens when strangers sit together long enough and share food. The protest becomes secondary. The human connection becomes primary.

Credit: Hindustan Times

And Today,

On Saturday, July 25 (today), India’s Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced his resignation, bowing to mounting pressure after tens of thousands of students and supporters took to the streets demanding accountability and sweeping reforms to the examination system.

The students won. Not all of their demands – the movement’s founder was clear that more remains to be done. But this was something. A generation that had been told it didn’t matter, that it was invisible, that its frustrations were noise – that generation sat down in the July heat, and the country sat down with it.

The Larger Thing

The Kindness Report exists to tell stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things for strangers. This week, India gave us hundreds of those stories at once.

Anonymous donors placing food orders from cities they’d never visit. Sewadars sweeping marble floors at midnight so exhausted teenagers had somewhere clean to sleep. A mosque keeper filling water bottles at 3 am. A college student with one thing to give, a bottle of water, giving it.

None of them were making a political statement. They were just looking at human beings who were tired and hungry and far from home, and doing what felt obvious.

Feed them. Give them chai. Tell them: you are our children, and you are welcome here.

For a long time, people have been really interested in the moon. It’s like Earth’s mysterious friend up in the sky that still holds many secrets. If you don’t already know, recently, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has been doing some amazing things to learn more about the moon.

They sent a spacecraft called Chandrayaan-3 to land on the moon’s south pole, and it worked! This makes India the fourth country, after the USA, Russia, and China, to do something like this.

The missions before this also found out cool stuff about the moon, like how hot or cold it gets, and that there’s sulphur there. These achievements show that ISRO is really good at exploring the moon and helping us understand it better.

ISRO, a space organization was transporting their rocket parts by bicycle in the early 60s due to lack of funding and resources. And now, they’ve landed on the south people of the People, the first space organisation to be able to do so.

Today, we’re celebrating ISRO’s success, and it’s well-deserved. ISRO is a space agency that loves taking on tough challenges and never gives up, even when things don’t go perfectly. Chandrayaan-3, their latest mission to the moon, gives us hope after two previous missions didn’t work out in 2008 and 2019. Hope is a powerful thing; it makes us stronger and more determined.

The team of brave scientists made a whole new mission in just four years, and they did it without spending as much money as it takes to make big Hollywood movies like Interstellar and Avengers.

ISRO’s path to success has been filled with challenges, from money problems to restrictions in the past. I want to show you how ISRO went from starting small, like transporting equipment in bicycles for launching, to launching missions to the Moon and even the Sun, becoming a big and successful space agency.

How ISRO Was Formed – An Unexpected Journey

ISRO’s journey was like a roller coaster ride it was named as The Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR) in 1962 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Independent India. But its preparation was started way back during British rule in India. When Britishers were busy looting India there were some scientists who were writing about the future of science and space for India.

During that time, a scientist named S. K. Mitra carried out experiments in Kolkata, where he used ground-based radio to study something called the ionosphere. This was an important step in understanding the outer space environment around our planet.

Afterwards, Indian scientists like C.V. Raman and Meghnad Saha also made important contributions to scientific knowledge that helped us explore and understand space better.

It was a tough time for India because India was struggling for its Independence from British India along with starvation & poverty, but as it is said – “Where there is a will, there’s a way”

Indian Scientist kept their morale high and after 1945, two important scientists in India started working together on space research. Their names were Vikram Sarabhai and Homi Bhabha. Vikram Sarabhai created the Physical Research Laboratory in Ahmedabad, and Homi Bhabha founded the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in 1945. They played a big role in advancing space research in India.

Vikram Sarabhai is the name for which Chandrayan 3 Lander was named as Lander Rover. Homi Jahangir Bhabha is known as the father of Atomic Energy in India, his contribution has made India a Nuclear Power.

One day, Vikram Sarabhai and Homi Bhabha met with Jawaharlal Nehru and explained why it’s important to spend money on space projects. After hearing their reasons, Nehru agreed, and in 1962, they started the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR), now known as the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), with Vikram Sarabhai leading the way.

It’s only Dr. Sarabhai’s relentless dedication that NASA entered into an agreement to lend India their Nike Apache rocket. The INCOSPAR initiative’s primary aim was to accomplish this rocket’s successful launch. However, a crucial requirement was a rocket launching facility, which India did not possess at that time.

How India Launched Its First Rocket – The Story Behind Bicycle

The ISRO journey started in a little church in a small village in Kerala. Dr Sarabhai was on a big hunt to find the perfect spot in India to launch rockets into space. His search led him to a quiet fishing village called Thumba in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

Something exciting happened there. When he went inside the Mary Magdalene Church, the compass needle did something unusual. Instead of pointing north or south like it normally does, it just stayed still.

This discovery showed that the church was right on the line where the Earth’s magnetic forces balance and the village was very near to the middle of the Earth. Dr Sarabhai saw how important this was – when you launch a rocket from a place closer to the Earth’s middle, it gets a big boost from the Earth’s spinning, making it go up faster and better.

To get the land for their scientific work, Dr. Sarabhai and his scientist friends met the church leader, Reverend Peter Pereira. He greeted them warmly and even invited them to Sunday church.

While they were at church, the bishop told the people there about Dr. Sarabhai’s request for the land. He asked them if they would be willing to give the land for science. The people agreed, and in less than 100 days, they moved away from the land so the scientists could use it.

The church was changed into a place where they designed and built rockets. The bishop’s house became a workshop for making things for space. Even the place where they kept cows turned into a lab. This village became the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Centre.

The moment when NASA’s rocket arrived at the launch platform was quite something – our scientists used bicycles to carry parts of the rocket! and in a bullock cart!. Everything was going well until a sudden problem happened while they were putting the rocket together and setting up the launching equipment.

The machine that lifts heavy things, called the hydraulic crane, started to leak. Even though this was a big challenge, the scientists didn’t give up. They worked together to move the rocket by hand. But then, they found out that the system that was supposed to launch the rocket remotely wasn’t working right. But if you’re resilient and determined nothing can stop you.

After the team talked and decided, they chose a person to control the launcher. Once that was done, everything finally seemed ready. An alarm went off to make sure everyone stayed away from the launch area.

Everyone was praying for the success of ISRO. As the day was almost over, everyone was watching, waiting for India’s big rocket launch.

On the evening of November 21, 1963, at 6:25 PM, something really exciting happened. India launched its very first rocket into space as the sun was setting. This was a huge deal because it marked the beginning of India’s journey into space exploration. After this, our scientists kept working hard and didn’t stop. They completed many amazing space missions and achieved a lot of success without ever turning back.

This post is about our 2 days journey to India’s eternal city – Varanasi. Our trip to rediscover who we are and our place in the universe. From chaos to calm, where timeless traditions meet modern aspirations, we explored Varanas’s spiritual essence.

So, sit back and relax as we take you on a magical journey that’ll make you forget the outside world to be at peace.

Nestled on the banks of the sacred river Ganges, Varanasi is a city that breathes spirituality and ancient wisdom. With a history spanning over 3,000 years, this vibrant and colourful city is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world.

Varanasi, also known as Kashi or Banaras, is a mesmerizing tapestry of culture, religion, and tradition that captivates the hearts and minds of visitors from around the globe.

My friend and I embarked on a journey from Delhi to Varanasi, seeking to immerse ourselves in the essence of spirituality and its timeless aura. The experience was nothing short of extraordinary, and I feel compelled to share it with all of you, dear readers. Varanasi, the oldest city, exuded a spiritual charm like no other, serving as a sacred hub of purity and ancient wisdom.

Varanasi has an illustrious past, steeped in mythology and revered by Hindus as the holiest city in India. According to Hindu belief, Lord Shiva, the deity of destruction and creation, chose Varanasi as his abode, making it a significant pilgrimage site for Hindus.

The first day in Varanasi began with a refreshing morning, greeted by a stunning sunrise and blessed with enchanting weather.
The beauty of the surroundings was so captivating that all worries faded away, and we immersed ourselves in the serenity, savouring every moment of tranquillity.

Without any delay, we eagerly immerse ourselves in the holy waters of the Ganga, seeking purification through the sacred Snaan (Bath). Our fortunes smile upon us as a downpour blesses our journey, enhancing the joy of our experience.

Just as we had heard about Kashi, our experience there mirrored those stories. The sacred ambience enveloped us, surrounded by fervent Lord Shiva devotees chanting “Har Har Mahadev” everywhere, filling the atmosphere with divine energy.

Exploring Ancient Ghats & Temples

After a divine bath and savouring the breathtaking sunrise, we set out to plan our day’s itinerary. Prior to that, we secured a rented room near the revered Kashi Viswanath Temple. Our first destination was the Ghats, followed by some shopping for our family.

Later that day, we were accompanied by rain too.

Starting with Ghats exploration, we began at Dashaswamedh Ghat, a site steeped in Hindu mythology, as it is believed that Lord Brahma created it to welcome Lord Shiva.

This particular Ghat serves as the primary venue for the magnificent Ganga Arti, both in the morning and evening. Subsequently, we embarked on visits to other notable Ghats such as Assi Ghat, Raja Harishchandra Ghat, and Manikarnika Ghat, each with its unique significance and charm.

The banks of the Ganga River are adorned with around 84 Ghats. Among them, Manikarnika Ghat stands out as a place renowned for hosting the grandest cremation ceremonies. Interestingly, when witnessing these solemn rituals at Manikarnika Ghat, a unique sense of fearlessness enveloped me.

My mind transcended into a state of serenity, realizing that this is an undeniable truth inherent in our existence. It serves as a reminder that all of us shall one day confront mortality, leaving behind nothing but a few cherished family members.

After exploring the various Ghats, we excitedly set out to discover the cuisine of Varanasi. We kicked off our journey with refreshing Buttermilk (Lassi) served in traditional Kulladh, a clay-made glass.

After a variety of mouthwatering delicacies, we indulged in some shopping, delighting in the purchase of exquisite Banarasi Sarees, kurtas, and more.

Evening’s Ganga Arti Enchantments

The anticipation of the evening’s Ganga Arti had us eagerly awaiting the moment. To secure a good spot, we arrived an hour early, ensuring we wouldn’t miss a thing. As the sun dipped below the horizon and the enchanting Ganga Arti started, indescribable energy and a positive aura enveloped the atmosphere.

In that magical moment, all our worries and troubles seemed to vanish, as we immersed ourselves completely in the captivating experience.

At the end of our eventful day’s journey, we made a decision to visit a temple known as the abode of the Inspector of Kashi, Lord Bhairav. This divine figure holds the title of “Inspector of Kashi” because the local firmly believes that he tirelessly safeguards the city from all adversities.

Our amazement knew no bounds when we discovered that even in a police station in Varanasi, a reserved seat is kept for Lord Kal Bhairav. His presence and protection were evident throughout the city, leaving us in awe of the deep-rooted faith.

The following morning, during the serene hours, we set off to visit the sacred Kashi Vishwanath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Owing to the temple’s strict rules, mobile phones and electronic devices were prohibited, allowing us to be fully present in the divine ambience.

Later, our journey led us to the historical site of Sarnath, where Gautama Buddha delivered his inaugural sermon.

It was an exhilarating adventure, as we explored both the divine energy of the temple and the profound historical significance of Sarnath. This remarkable experience impacted us, influencing our perspectives and reshaping our way of life.

We have a deep affection for our pets, regardless of whether they are dogs, cats, or any other species. They hold a special place in our hearts and we treat them as valued members of our family. We ensure they have proper nutrition and care. However, have you thought about the fate of your pet in the event of abandonment or a similar situation?

You generously feed numerous street dogs without hesitation, and they anticipate that this compassionate act will persist. This sentiment is echoed by all street dogs.

But today we would like to tell you about a man named Kamala Lochan Baliarsingh, a resident of Orissa, India, who has been exemplifying this selfless behaviour for over a decade by feeding street dogs daily.

Kamala Lochan Baliarsingh’s life has been a roller coaster journey, characterized by numerous challenges, including betrayal by someone close to him and struggles as a homeless individual. Despite these hardships, his love for animals remained unwavering.

In this part of the unsung heroes, we will delve into Kamala’s story, exploring his transformation from a ragpicker to a beacon of hope for street dogs.

Kamala Lochan Baliarsingh’s Early Life

Kamala Lochan Baliarsingh was not born as a ragpicker. He left his home due to family disputes and began living alone at the age of 60 when most people hope to live out their remaining years in peace. However, he chose to embark on a difficult journey, walking barefoot on a thorny road.

He often complained that everyone had deserted him and that his children never visited him. He used to work for a company where he earned 90 rupees per day. However, now he earns a living by scavenging for plastic bottles and cleaning railway platforms in Orissa.

Sometimes, he goes to bed hungry as he doesn’t earn a single penny in a day. If someone offers him food on such days, he considers it his lucky day. The streets have become his permanent address, where he sleeps, eats, and lives his life.

Kamala said in one of his rare interviews that nobody comes to seek him out. Now, the sky serves as his permanent roof and the stars are the lights that illuminate his new abode.

Kamala’s Love For Dogs

Love for dogs is one of the purest and most unconditional forms of love that one can experience. It is a love that knows no boundaries and is often the source of comfort, joy, and companionship for those who have dogs in their lives.

Related Read: Unconditional love of a Street Dog

Kamala Lochan Baliarsingh may not personally own any dogs, but he has chosen to show love and care for those dogs that are neglected and denied care. He has made the decision to provide food and support to the animals in need.

He has taken in seven stray dogs and made them his own, providing them with a home at his adobe. Kamala never neglects their needs, always ensuring that they have a roof over their heads, even if it means going without himself. He is fiercely dedicated to providing for these dogs, ensuring that their well-being is always a top priority.

Every day at mealtime, a group of dogs gather around Kamala, eager to share the leftovers from his meal. It is a heartwarming sight, as they all come together to feast on the food, bonding over their shared love of a good meal. Kamala takes great pleasure in this daily routine, as he watches the dogs enjoying their food and the camaraderie they share.

The love he has for these dogs is evident in the way he cares for them, making sure that they are well-fed and happy. His devotion to these animals is truly admirable. At times, Kamala may go without food himself, but he always makes sure that his dogs are properly fed.

The Power of Kindness

The story of Kamala Lochan Baliarsingh is truly inspiring and heartwarming. Despite facing challenges in his own life, he chose to show kindness and compassion towards the stray dogs at the railway station.

He went above and beyond to ensure that they were well-fed and taken care of, even if it meant sacrificing his own meals.

His selfless act of charity has touched the hearts of many and serves as a reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s life.

Kamala’s story is a testament to the power of the human spirit, and his unwavering dedication to the well-being of his furry friends is a shining example of what it means to be a doer in life.

Independence is something that makes you free from all types of restrictions and provides you the liberty to think and act freely. In world history, many countries were under the control of other countries and the same was with India.

But a remarkable day came and on 15th August 1947– ‘The unforgettable day’ in Indian History when India got independence from British rule. It marks the end of the British government and the establishment of a new and independent India.

Independence day is the historic and most important day for India. It is also a national holiday for taking out time to remember our freedom fighters who contributed and sacrificed their lives for the country. Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Dadabhai Naroji, and Rani Lakshmi Bai are a few names of the golden names who made remarkable contributions and are the reason why we all are here celebrating freedom.

We may never know how it feels like to live in a free country if it was not for the bravery of our fathers.

But unfortunately, this day is also marked as the anniversary of the partition of two nations that is India and Pakistan. The partition that took place nearly 75 years ago still makes people remember all the innocents’ deaths and chaos.

After being ruled by Britishers, India earned freedom after a long struggle of about 190 years. But after so many ups and down today India is considered one of the potential upcoming superpowers of the world. Now people of India are spread all over the world and contributing to different sectors.

World Knows India for its diverse culture and unity. And perhaps because of this unity and patriotism India recovered quickly to post-independence so as result it become the fastest-growing economy.

India’s 75th Independence Celebration

This year we are celebrating our 75th year of Independence. People organize flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, March pasts, fireworks, and different cultural events.

The national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ and other patriotic songs will be sung by people throughout India. This day is also celebrated in schools and colleges so that children & students should be aware of the greatness of this day.

On every 15th of August, our honorable Prime Minister hoists the Indian flag on the Red Fort in Delhi and also mentions past years’ achievements and raises important issues, and calls for further developments.

What India has achieved after Independence?

Who doesn’t like talking about their country’s achievements? As this special day is approaching I would like to point few of the things that my country has achieved in a short span post-independence.

India is the world’s biggest democracy. Now India has grown rapidly in all sectors after independence in a short period. India has several significant achievements and major milestones in nearly all sectors -infrastructure, trade, transport, defense, medical, education, nuclear – power, scientific research, etc.

India is also among the fastest growing economy with a GDP of 8.7% in 2021-2022. India transformed from a country where there was a shortage of food to becoming one of the leading agricultural producers in the world.

Apart from agriculture, we have also seen growth in other sectors. The government of India focuses more on the infrastructure and on the construction of national highways to make an easy journey and trade. India is also recognized globally for its scientific research and tests.

India has created, tested, and operationalized several missile systems. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has done commendable work in space over the past few decades and is now counted among the most successful space agencies in the world. What even makes them unique is their approach to helping other counties in launching their satellites.

India is also called the pharmacy of the world because it is the largest provider of generic drugs in the world. And the country has proved this by sending millions of free vaccines to help other countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. Indian pharmaceutical market is the world’s third-largest in terms of volume and thirteenth largest in terms of value.

India has always proved from time to time that it is always there to help its neighboring countries in difficult times, whether it’s Bangladesh in the past or currently Sri Lankan crisis.

These are some things that make me feel proud of my country. I know we’re not yet perfect, there’s so much worse too, and we have to cover a long path. Last year’s independence day I talked about a few things where we are still struggling for freedom. You can read it here –

Also Read: 5 things to describe that we are still struggling for freedom

But I also believe that our courage and dedication will make this happen soon.

If there is one place on the face of earth where all the dreams of living men have found a home from the very earliest days when man began the dream of existence, it is India.
Romain Rolland

May this Independence Day bring fortune and success for each and every one of us. May our country and this whole world see more progress in the coming years! Happy Independence Day!

Let’s celebrate freedom!

“Yoga teaches you how to listen to your body.”

Yoga is a way of life. We’ve heard it but do not quite understand it. In recent years, we have seen rapid development in the world, and things that seem to be impossible are becoming real through magnificent scientific development. All the means of communication and transportation can be done within a time.

People have become more productive and skilled which is helping them to become financially free. Also, we have seen many new inventions in the medical field as well as in technology which are making our life easier.

But every new invention has some drawbacks and as we grow further our natural resources will continue to get low in count. And due to the extinguishing of natural resources, many new diseases have also been popped out here and there. In the race of getting everything, we are somehow trapped by the extra workload and stress.

We don’t care about our body, our mind, our inner peace, and our eternal happiness. Just because we are blinded by what we are seeing not what we actually need.

Why Does The World Needs Yoga?

Here we are yet to recover from the deadly coronavirus, the new monkeypox virus that has affected many children. Also, there are many people affected by some kind of disease. Either some of them got proper medical treatment or some of them become uncured due to a lack of financial ability.

There is one common disease among us which is ‘Diabetes’ which has trapped millions of people across the globe. According to World Health Organization, “There are 422 Million People worldwide who have Diabetes, the majority are living in low-and-middle-income countries, and 1.5 million deaths are directly attributed to diabetes each year.”

High Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, Depression, Eye Weakness, Heart Disease, and many more have affected every house. You will find a person suffering from at least one of the above diseases in every household. No doubt, we have done a great job in modernization but still, we are lacking in terms of prosperity in the world. We are getting close to technology but getting far from our own health.

One thing that might confuse you is that if we have already done immense work of technology and medical care so why there are millions of people remain uncured? A few decades ago we barely could find a super speciality hospital nearby us. Then how did people of that time use to cure themself?

It is because ‘Yoga’, that has its roots dating back thousands of years ago. Yoga is a way of life that they adopted.

A Brief History of Yoga

We all know that India is a country of diversity, with great philosophers, scientists, and leaders. Due to their intelligence and hard work they always give something beneficial to the world. Also, India used to be the place of ‘Sadhu’ or Saints or Monks for many decades.

They used to do Sadhna or Meditation either in dense forests or by going into huge Mountains or sacred places to keep themselves away from distractions.

They were highly dependent on nature and herbs to keep themselves healthy. Also, to keep their mind connected with the body, and to increase their thought process they do ‘YOGA’. Yoga was derived from the Sanskrit word “Yuj” which means ‘to join’ or ‘to unite. Here Union means the connection between your mind and your body.

It is considered that Lord Shiva was the first to Introduce Yoga. Later, to spread knowledge of Yoga he disseminates his knowledge and learning to seven learned men known as ‘Saptrishi’. They in return spread the knowledge in seven different directions and different regions.

After years many forms of Yoga were derived like Karma Yoga, Jana Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Raja Yoga. Yoga was the only thing that is continuing without any change.

Yoga provides mental and physical benefits to all age groups of people. Yoga has uncountable health benefits, it can provide relief from any chronic diseases to any surgical therapies. Daily yoga practice can reduce the resting heart rate, increases endurance, and improves oxygen level.

The following are the benefits of Yoga:

Lowers Blood Pressure

Improve Sleep

Balance the Metabolism

Perfect your Posture

Increase Muscle Strength

Increase Flexibility

Strengthens Bones

I have experienced the benefits of yoga. As I was a patient with High Cholesterol for two years and after taking various medical treatments I couldn’t get some relief.

But when someone gives me advice on doing ‘Pranayam’, and ‘Surya Namaskar’ (a kind of Yoga) I found a great change in my consciousness. I started feeling lighter and my focus on work improves drastically.

I’m here to insist you that take the pledge this 21st June 2022 on the occasion of International Yoga Day that you’ll give chance to your body by practising Yoga every day. I’m sure that within a year you’ll find the new you.

Yoga is a way of life. It is the union of body, mind, and soul. There may be tough times now, so I would say that it is probably the best time to get back to our roots.

Tea also known as ‘CHAI’ is India’s hot beverage and a thick sweet drink. But let’s say, tea is not just a sweet drink but an emotion that is an integral part of the rhythm of life.

In India, tea is made by the addition of tea leaves, milk, sugar, and some hand-grounded spices and boiled until it turns to be a Golden beverage.

But the vibes and aromas from that place have great satisfaction on their own. And that one person running the shop is known as ‘Chaiwala’ or tea vendor.

In India Tea has different names and a variety of tastes as per the region. Some of the famous tea as follows:-

But have you wondered how tea has evolved in India? What is the history behind the success of tea-making in India?

A Brief History of Tea In India

If you are assuming that tea evolved in India you are assuming wrong. Tea has a long history and it took a long path to come to India. So keeping the story concise it was the Britishers who introduced tea here at first.

But the Britishers were also belated, It was nearly 2000 years ago china first used tea as a medicine when Buddhism came to China. Due to its health benefits, the Chinese started drinking on the daily basis.

Also, from a religious point of view, the Chinese celebrate tea as a tea ceremony. Later Dutch added milk to it and offer it to the Britishers. They went mad with the taste of tea. Later, they added sugar to the tea to make it more delightful.

Later due to the bad quality of Dutch exported tea, Britishers began strengthening relationships with China. Britishers used to offer opium to the Chinese which was produced in Calcutta and Patna, Benares, and Malva plateau in exchange for tea.

But that was not enough to fulfil the demand for tea so they brought the techniques to cultivate tea in India. In 1788, The Royal Society of Arts began contemplating the idea of transplanting saplings from china.

Later in 1824, tea saplings were discovered by Robert Bruce and Maniram Dewan. After some time tea was planted in Assam and expanded across the country. Now we know the different names of tea like green tea, masala tea, pink tea, and butter tea.

Now, the Britishers left the country and India is an independent state but the love for tea become immortal. Tea has become a member of every family. Almost every house has an addicted member of the tea.

For a full history of tea read:- How tea has arrived in India

Relationship between Tea and Indian families

Tea is not just a beverage but an emotion for Indians. Many people despite any age group have a habit of getting up and having bed tea before moving out of the room. Most of us have a habit of reading the newspaper and sipping chai (Including me). Working people often have bread and tea for breakfast before going to work.

There are various reasons which show our bond with tea is immeasurable.

Tea helps in Gossiping

Tea is used for Hospitality:- Any guest who arrives at our home is often welcomed by offering tea and snacks. Office meetings, marriages, workers’ refreshments, etc. you will find tea is a common and compulsory welcome gesture. Tea makes the bond stronger.

Tea helps in gossiping:- Sips of tea are like breaths and energy and freshness, also a matter of gossip. You will find every ‘chaiwallah’ or tea vendor to lead the gossip surrounded by some retired personnel. Some often share their experiences and some share their problems. In India, every chaiwallah knows every secret about you more than your family or loved ones. Also, we can say chai ‘tea’ is a stress buster.

Helps in Relationship Building:- In India, whenever a groom goes to see the bride, it’s a ritual that the bride welcomes the groom by serving tea. Or, we can say that tea is the starting ritual of any relationship. Also, for an international political meeting countries offer the leaders a cup of tea for bilateral talks.

Tea is used as the best refreshment:- Having a cup of tea and dipping a biscuit into it is the favorite habit of Indians for refreshment. Tea is the favorite drink to refresh people when their body has exhausted. It acts as a pain killer whenever the head is aching. Whether it’s a movie, a cricket match, and the interval you will find tea in a break. Tea contains antioxidants and biotin which boost the immune system. It helps in keeping us hydrated because it contains 90% of water.

Tea has great economic value:- Tea does not just give employment to ‘chaiwallahs‘ or tea vendors but also to more than 1 million people in the area where tea is grown. Tea gives business to sugar mills, Potters, Cup makers, milkmen, bakeries, and even tobacco companies. Tea is the major foreign exchange earner for India. There is no doubt that tea is the backbone of Indian economic development and growth.

Tea not only helps in relationship building, but it also tells the inspirational stories of people. With the support of tea, many Indian have become heroes and made a name for themselves.

Famous People Who Love Tea!

Narendra Modi

We all know about our famous prime minister Narendra Damodardas Modi who was born in Vadnagar, a small town in Gujarat. He is serving as the 14th and current prime minister of India. He is one of the most powerful leaders and famous politicians in India. In November 2021, he also topped the list of most popular leaders in the global rating list with an approval of 71% rating.

But behind every great story, there is another struggling story. He also faced a tough time at an early stage of his life. He belongs to marginalized sections of society and low-income families who struggle hard to make ends meet.

But he dreamt of a life that went beyond ordinary life and he loves volunteering in social work. When he was a child he used to sell tea on the Vadnagar railway station platform. Selling tea helps him in surviving in his tough times. Starting the journey from an impoverished tea seller to the prime minister of India is incredible.

MBA Chaiwala

This venture was started by Prafull Billore who was born in Madhya Pradesh. After completing his graduation he dreamt of going to pursue MBA from IIM Ahmedabad and became an MBA aspirant. But after doing a lot of hard work and giving so many attempts he failed to clear the CAT exam multiple times. After being heartbroken from the failure of clearing the exam, he took admitted to a private institute.

But he was not satisfied with what he was doing. So he dropped his MBA career after a few days. Then he decided to start his own business with a unique idea. On July 25, 2017, he started his own tea business on the street of Ahmedabad with an initial investment of Rs. 8000. He got the idea that tea is the thing that Indians love the most and consume a lot.

So he served his tea in earthen cups along with toast and tissue. Slowly his business started growing and now he became the second most famous chaiwala in the world.

Chai Sutta Bar

Anubhav Dubey is the co-founder of the Chai Sutta Bar along with his two friends Anand Nayak and Rahul. Anubhav Dubey is a small-town boy who belongs to a middle-class family in Madhya Pradesh. He studied in the village till class 8th and then shifted to Indore to complete the rest of his schooling. After schooling, he shifted to Delhi to prepare for the UPSC exam and he started preparing with full dedication.

But one day his school friend Anand Nayak called him and proposed to him to start a business together. Anubhav agreed and he quit UPSC preparation. They started their first franchise of chai sutta bar in Indore with an initial investment of Rs. 3 lakh near a girls’ hostel.

They started initially from borrowed furniture. Anubhav believes that tea is the highest beverage on the planet after water. So, they got this unique idea of selling tea. They used to give tea in kullhads. They also employ orphans, disabled people, and economically weaker people.

Tea made them earn multiple digits and successful businesses persons. Now they have more than 150+ outlets in 4 countries. This is a journey of tea sellers from 3 lakh rupees to 100 crore turnover.

So, there is no doubt that tea is not just a drink but a whole different world. Whatever the great idea came into our heads, came mostly at the time of drinking tea. Also, tea is the reason behind many successful people.

Whether it is India’s Masala tea and America’s Boba tea or Bubble tea emotion behind the tea lovers is the same. Ain’t it?

As ‘Chai’ is the most important & lovable drink in India as well as in the World.

“When was the last time you spotted a house sparrow on your window?” Rakesh Khatri asks this question in every workshop he does. Despite being the state bird of Delhi, today they are a rare species in the capital. No one exactly knows when they last spotted these little birds chirping outside their home.

House sparrows have always co-existed and lived with humans after the forest was cut down and the cities built. Unlike any other birds, they used to live with humans in their home, made their nests around switchboards, balconies, and any other livable place or small resting place anywhere around the home.

Rakesh Khatri, a resident of Delhi, spent his childhood in Old Delhi’s Chandni Chowk. The Indian households built there are of old architectural designs and have enough spaces and rooms for sparrows to come and live with them.

Rakesh shares the story, “When I was growing up, sparrows would make their nests on switchboards, balconies, window panes, and we were told by elders not to run ceiling fans too fast because of the fear of getting them injured.”

He spent his entire childhood with his little winged friends; he fed them grains when he returned from school, and played with them. That time was completely different; even those who didn’t have big houses had big hearts where these birds stayed.

Later, Rakesh moved from Old Delhi to Ashok Vihar, a developing part of Delhi. After moving to his new home, he realised that his childhood little winged friends were slowly disappearing. The new architectural designs are built in a way that leaves no room for these birds. They haven’t been able to keep up with the new architecture and lifestyle changes. Now the people have become intolerant towards the supposed ‘nuisance’ birds create.

How has he saved thousands of sparrows?

Rakesh Khatri was a photographer & Short filmmaker by profession. he worked in the media industry. In 2008, when he saw that the number of sparrows was declining and becoming a rare species, he decided to quit his job and save them by building nests.

He got an idea of using the waste green coconut shells for making nests. Green coconut comes in abundance from South India, and people usually throw them after drinking. He made a group program and collected those 10-12 waste coconut shells.

They filled the shells with newspapers and widened their opening, and covered it with grass used in coolers. Tied all of them together, and placed an Azadirachta Indica stick near its opening for them to sit and then hung it on the tree.

They kept an eye on the nests for several days, but unfortunately, not a single bird came to accept those nests. Moreover, the nests also failed as they became completely dry after a few days. People also mocked him and his ways by saying, “Why would sparrows stay in your nests? They’ll build their own.”

But it didn’t stop Rakesh Khatri from doing what he’s doing. After several trial and error methods and research, he made a nest from thin sticks used in chick blinds/window blinds by turning it into a globe shape and wrapping it with a jute roll.

He placed the nest in the tree and waited for birds to come. Every day, he sat there with the camera in his hand to capture the moment. But even after 3 days, nothing happened. On the 4th day, he saw a male sparrow examining the nest, and he then brought his partner to the nest. Both those sparrows adopted the new house happily.

After that, people around Rakesh started asking him to build the same nests for them too; they would also like to place the same in balconies or in front of their houses. Rakesh and his friends made around 20 nests and hung them everywhere in the neighbourhood. Within a week, all those were adopted not only by house sparrows but different types of birds.

Rakesh would stroll around his locality and city to identify different places where these birds still fly in large numbers and then make several nests for them in trees.

Eco Roots Foundation Was Founded

Four years later, in 2012, he founded Eco Roots Foundation in order to promote his mission and raise awareness. Rakesh then never looked back. He contributed his life to environmental preservation. He always says, “Sparrows are my childhood friend, how can I leave them to die?”

After that, he started doing various workshops and worked with schools, corporations, and residential welfare associations. His mission also includes teaching children and the young generation how to build nests and bring them close to nature. Children and adults happily attended his workshops.

He has conducted over 3 lakh workshops and worked with over 4000 schools to teach children about environmental preservation. Until now, he has taught around 300,000 children, adults, and elders how to build a birdhouse from jute bags, bamboo sticks, grass, and threads.

In every workshop, he says, “It’s the biggest blessing when someone resides in the home you built with your hands.”

He also said in one of his workshops, “There have been times when people have destroyed the nests built by my foundation. But that has not stopped me. If they destroy one, I will build another five.”

Today, Rakesh Khatri is a renowned environmentalist and has been awarded several times for his extraordinary mission and dedication towards saving sparrows. He and his team made it into the Limca Books of Records two times for the highest number of workshops conducted and the largest theatre event on climate change.

He’s also been recognised as ‘The Sparrow Man’ and ‘The Nest Man of India’.

Eco Roots Foundation and the people in its workshop continue building various types of eco-friendly nests. Rakesh Khatri and his NGO also built several nests from recycled waste like Tetra packs.

He has also been awarded by International Green Apple Award in the House of Commons in London (2008) for best practice on sparrow conservation in India. Not only this, but even a dedicated chapter based on Rakesh Khatri’s work is also included in the ICSC English textbook for the 4th standard.

Recently, his name was recognised by the London World Book Of Records for creating 125,000 nests using jute and tetra packs.

Now, he and his NGO have the vision to build birdhouses throughout the country and are also involved in Water conservation and various other missions to environmentally sustain the ecosystem and ensure the habitation of all its elements.

His story is truly inspiring for today’s environmental situations. We often ignore these changes and issues because of our busy lives, but they also require equal attention. You already know how many of these species are on the verge of extinction.

The future generation might not be able to see them ever. But if we have people like Rakesh Khatri who know how to make noise before it’s too late, then our nature keeps breathing. But why can’t we be the ones? How long will we stay quiet and leave these species to unnatural extinctions?

We inhabit a world where everyone tries to find his way of living. Some do battle for survival in their own fatherland, some have to left their native place and walk-off from their comfort zone.

Obviously, no one feels good when they left their dwelling, parents, people, colleagues behind to search and earn for living. But this is life, we work hard, bypass the comfort so that we can somehow make our forthcoming brighter and livable for our coming generations.

Generally, most people move towards Metro Cities so that they can get better pedagogy, health care, divulgence, and settle their life. But what if this adherence becomes a curse to them? The intense lighting of the cities becomes darker for them and that too by their own country’s people?

Sadly, It might be the story of our own people from North-east India. Undoubtedly, it is India’s most beautiful region and is surrounded by 5 Neighboring countries- China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Bhutan & Nepal. This region is the easternmost region which represents both a geographic and political-administrative division of the country. Here’s the brief geography.

Salient facets Of Northeast Region

The eight states which are sandwiched between the 5 countries have a different significance on their own. Siliguri is also known as “Chicken Neck”, adjoined the Northeast to the rest of India and to the center of the Gangetic Plains of the Northern region of Hindi speaking Area.

The Northeast is also known as a region of seven Sisters, with one brother. They are known as Seven Sisters because they share their boundaries Namely, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram with each other.

Whereas, Sikkim Doesn’t share boundaries with them so that’s why it is known as the Brother of these Seven Sisters. The state of Sikkim is also India’s First 100% Organic food-producing State. The use of pesticide and chemical fertilizers are completely banned in the state.

North East India is also famous for its Floating National Park in the world, pleasant climate throughout the year, the dowry-free region in India, the largest women-only market in Asia.

Assam tea gardens are famous all over the world, not only this even Northeast India also has the cleanest village in Asia named “Mawlynnong” in the state of Meghalaya. They have India’s first cashless island which is situated in Loktak lake.

They have countless stuff which is very hard for me to mention within the article. But you can read more about it here- What is North East India Famous For? 20 Things You Must Know

These are the gloriousness of the northeast, but to earn more income and better facilities, when they leave their motherland it shows a completely different picture. Discrimination as we know it starts out of some dominant stereotypes and obsolete thinking by the people who never been to these states before. But why is there so many stereotypes and discrimination still prevail in society?

And why the people of North-east India have to face alienated, racism, abuse, molestation?

Why People Of Northeast India Still Face Racism?

Just imagine you are a member of your family and your family members teasing you, beating you, acting like you don’t belong to them, you are a stranger to them. How do you feel? Their behavior towards you is just as a paying guest, despite you are the most important piece that strengthens and completes the family.

And when you go to an elder one in the house they keep ignoring your voice despite knowing everything. Likely, they suggest you seal your maw and work with the flow. How you feel at that time?

I am sure you will be broken down, dishearted, and your mind will be shattered. You will work silently because you have no idea what to do now, you have no options left to deal with it.

And this situation somewhere sounds similar to Northeastern people of India when they live in the same country with a feeling and fear of being prejudiced. They are a part of the country but their appearance and people’s attitude towards them make them feel isolated.

Related post:- How Racism Is An Endless Debate?

Usually, they have small eyes and an average height due to demographically close to China and other similar countries. They are Non-Hindi speaking people and also have a different culture like any other region of the country. But yet from the inside, they are truly Patriotic and affectionate towards the Nation.

A recent survey found that 78% of their population believed that physical appearance was the most important reason for prejudice against them. Let’s talk about the issues they generally face-

Problems Face By Northeast people In Their Own Country

A study tasked by the Indian Council Of Social Science Research (ICSSR), and hate crime against people from Northeast state found that they seamlessly fit an Indian Imagination of a Chinese Person.

The major issues they faces are:-

Acrimonious Language – During the pandemic, several incidents regarding racism came to the light. A Manipuri girl had been spat on and called “corona” by a middle-aged man. Also, they are summoned, “chinky” and Chinese virus throughout the lockdown.

A study revealed that hate violation and racial discrimination against these people are deeply rooted even in the big metro cities. Mumbai has the highest 78% of racial and abusive language-related crime, Chennai 74%, Pune 67.3% & Delhi 64%.

Violation at restaurants: These people are often abuses by teasing them to eat food allegedly made by the community in the region. They often ask stupid questions like- do they eat dogs? Do they eat snakes? These unfriendly behaviors make them feel embarrassed in public. These things are asked just to know if they belong to China. They are told to prove their nationality.

The issue in renting a house:- There are certain cases during the pandemic where people forced them to leave the house. When they deny or ask a little time they are often beaten up. Not only this, after leaving the place people sometimes don’t allow them to rent a house or resting in the hotel.

The alleged rivalry between India and China doesn’t only limit to borders only, the people who are look-alike each other are also vulnerable to be a victim of hate and discrimination.

Refusal of file FIR by the Police:- The most pervasive reason behind hate crime incidents against the Northeastern people as per the data is the public attitude and insensitivity. As many as 34% of persons faced a common issue of refusal to file FIR by the police. The Hindu report.

Northeastern Women are more sensitive to incursion:- When it comes to racial abuse, both men and women are facing it but women are more vulnerable to attack” said ‘Alana Golmei ‘ activist and lawyer who runs the Northeast Support Centre and Helpline.

She said in an interview to The Print, “earlier she used to get 3 to 4 cases in a week now she is getting 4 to 5 calls per day of racial abuse. Furthermore, the calls she received, about 60% of them are women.

Northeast India: Land of Eternal Beauty To Racial Discrimination

It’s a harsh reality that in the same country people become dominated over others. There is no doubt that India has rich diversity, many community lived here. There are so many cultures, languages, appearances exist.

As I mentioned above Northeast India is rich in culture and environment. It is one of the most famous tourist regions of India. Not only this, the Northeast has given us many heroes and social workers who make India proud.

Somewhere our media is also responsible who never showed the real beauty of the northeast because there’s no TRP doing that. And even Bollywood never showed the colors of North-east people and their beautiful culture.

From sports to acting, law to politics, the northeast has given us many champions. Some of like, Marry Com, Baichung Bhutia, Sunil Chetri, Somdev Devvarman, Former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Famous musician RD Burman, Bhupendra Hajarika, etc. but don’t you think we are disrespecting them.

“Atithi Devo Bhawah” we used this sloka(Verse) to describe that ‘Guest Are Like God’ but when it comes to our own people’s integrity why we become biased? We disrespect them, discriminate against them, and force them to prove their patriotism. “We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided”– JK Rowling said.

This is so true to be as United we have to be one, we need to be one and treat everyone the same. If we will be biased with our own family members no one will respect them anywhere. And that’s how you can make your country great?
