Yes, being a writer is much more fun and funny than you might think! And I can say this after around 5 years of experience. This might not sound like a lot (which of course isn’t), but I learned what I could from this writing journey. And I can say I have my own amusing conflicts, anecdotes, and ‘word’ war that may seem serious from another’s POV but is actually pretty hilarious if I consciously think about it.

And, I believe many other bloggers, authors, writers or whosoever grabs a pen (Keyboard) once to write can relate to this.

1. The Dreaded Writer’s Block

Writer’s block is the bane of every writer’s existence. It’s that feeling when you sit down to write, but nothing comes out. You stare at the blank screen, trying to think of something to say, but your mind is empty. But don’t worry, writer’s block is only temporary. Eventually, the words will start to flow again.

Who hasn’t tried typing random words, only to realize they’ve created an unintentional haiku about llamas?

2. The Curse of Overthinking

I think it is time that ‘overthinking’ should be considered a part of writing skills in every resume and interview. Writers are notorious for overthinking the simplest of sentences. When I started writing, I started to overthink everything, like “Is ‘flabbergasted’ too strong a word for describing my character’s reaction to spilt coffee?”

And then someone from the blogging community told me “Congrats! you’re officially a writer now!”

3. Reading Your Own Work

Ever tried reading your own writing aloud? It’s a rollercoaster of emotions. One moment, you’re patting yourself on the back, thinking you’re a literary genius, and the next, you’re snorting with laughter at a cringe-worthy sentence. It’s like attending a stand-up comedy show with an unpredictable punchline.

4. The Plot Twist

So, you’ve planned your plot, outlining every twist and turn. But then, in the middle of writing, your characters decide to take the story in a completely different direction. It’s like they have a mind of their own! As an author, you find yourself in a hilarious game of literary tug-of-war with your own creations.

5. The Battle with Spambots

Every WordPress blogger knows the struggle of dealing with spambots. No matter how sophisticated your anti-spam tools are, you’ll still find comments like, “Great post! Check out my site for miracle weight loss pills!” It’s like a never-ending game of whack-a-mole with digital nuisances.

6. The Accidental Puns

As a writer, you’re bound to stumble upon puns unintentionally. J.K. Rowling herself might have chuckled when she realized that Professor Snape’s first name, Severus, could be read as “severe.” The moment you spot these linguistic gems is pure comedic gold.

7. Social Awkwardness

Writing may be a solitary profession, but writers often find themselves in hilarious social situations. Take Neil Gaiman, who admitted, “I used to be a journalist, but I was a terrible journalist because I always wanted to put in funny bits.” Imagine him trying to interview a serious politician and slipping in a pun about the weather!

But you know, there’s a catch! Social awkwardness might sound like a serious deal, but in fact, there are some awesomeness of being socially awkward.

8. Hilarious Autocorrects

In the digital age, writers grapple with the infamous autocorrect feature. How many times have you sent a message only to realize that your smartphone transformed “I’m finishing my novel” into “I’m fishing for navel”?

9. The Vanishing Ideas

Sometimes, the best ideas come when you least expect them, like when you’re in the middle of a shower or doing the grocery shopping. I remember this one time when I was standing in the shower, minding my own business, when suddenly a brilliant idea struck my brain, as soon as I stepped out, grabbed a towel, and reached for a pen – poof! it vanished!

10. The Obsession with Stats

Bloggers have a love affair with their site stats. It’s not uncommon to find yourself checking your daily page views and visitor counts more often than your social media. And when you see a spike in traffic, you feel like you’ve won the internet for the day!

11. Running Out of Ideas

You sit there, pondering life’s deepest mysteries, and you’re like, “I’ve done it all! I’ve said it all! There’s nothing left in the vast expanse of my mind!”. But then, like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat, you discover that there’s a never-ending wellspring of creativity.

So, I guess the well of creativity is bottomless, and writing is just a never-ending pizza party.

12. We are a Bit Crazy

Okay, maybe more than a bit. But that’s okay! Creativity often requires a certain amount of madness.

13. We get to Meet Other Interesting People

Writers tend to be a colourful bunch, so you’re sure to meet some interesting characters if you get involved in the writing community.

14. We Can Write Own Experiences, even the embarrassing ones

Sometimes, the best stories are the ones that are based on real life. So don’t be afraid to write about your own embarrassing experiences, as long as you can make them funny or relatable.

Of course, being a writer isn’t all fun and games. It’s a lot of hard work, and it can be very frustrating at times. But ultimately, it’s incredibly amazing to write down your perspective and imagination.

Just think, finishing a piece of writing and knowing that you’ve created something that other people will enjoy. So if you have a story to tell, don’t be afraid to put it down on paper.

After consistently blogging for more than 2 years, I looked back and realized the enormous change in my thoughts and brain functioning. I don’t know if I’ll be able to explain to you what actually I felt like now. But surely it seems to be a positive one.

Beyond the shadow of a doubt, writing stuff is the most prominent way to throw light on your witty wisdom. It also describes your brain’s thoughts and the way you think of a situation or an event.

Brain’s thoughts are innumerable but some say an average human brain can think up to 7000 thoughts a day. But of course, most of them only serve anxiety and negative emotions. However, the time you pen down these thoughts in a profound way, it serves as a calming, meditative tool.

Even the research found that the stream of conscious writing exercises, in particular, has been identified as a helpful stress-coping method.

I can assure you that this research is working for me at least. And I know many of you would agree that writing down thoughts is indeed a genuine way to pacify brainstorming.

When I was unaware of this writing therapy and was bottling up my ideas, I was always surrounded by anxious thoughts. But from the past 2 years, I comprehended that through writing you can easily structure your amorphous concept. I’m still isn’t that perfect, but now I feel way better than before.

Let Your Brain Thank You

There is research that shows writing affects the brain and increases neural activity in the same way, similar to meditation. It can be a powerful meditational practice. The first time I started writing consistently or you can say a ‘Free Writing or ‘Brain dump’, it was all too disorganized. Firstly, there were a number of thoughts that came to my mind too rapidly.

It was impossible to write them down. Some thoughts just escaped from the brain entirely. I tried to write as fast as I could. The one that I did grab wasn’t perfect for writing.

But with time, I get to know that it’s all a practice that we learn every day. As little as 10 minutes of writing practice a day can reap great benefits. You don’t need to rush instantly.

Writing gives your busy brain something to do, something to execute rather than just thinking. It is so effective that even your brain will Thank You.

How Does Writing Improve Your Brain? ‘The Influential Angle’

Writing can be influential for you the same way it is to the readers. Powerful writing can plant an emotion, an idea, or a thought into the brain of the reader.

When you tell a story through writing, it creates a sense of synchronization between the words and the reader’s imagination. They start imagining those characters or the moment while reading in their brain. Princeton University concluded that the brain of a person telling a story either by writing or speaking and the brain of a person reading or listening to it can synchronize exquisitely.

Don’t want to include it, but in scientific terms, the part of the brain that is associated with reading and writing is called Frontal Lobe. It’s a weird name but you should know it.

Change in Perspective

After writing several articles or blogs I have a positive outlook and a kinda divergent perspective of seeing the situation. The perspective urges me to write it down and share it with you before it dies prematurely.

This perspective wasn’t there if I go back in time. It’s a newly developed skill that I acquired because of writing. And, I feel happy I’m able to earn. I won’t say that I’m perfect, am excellent, as I’m not. And perhaps, it’s a never-ending learning exercise.

But it’s good to think that I’m walking that path that insists, I see things differently, to have an appreciation for something undervalued.

I can’t believe I’m the same person who was afraid to write even 50 words essay in school. And now we have written over 100,000 words since the inception of Aspiring Blog. It’s just so crazy to think about, isn’t it?

The other thing that sets behind it is the reason or something worth writing for. We all procrastinate a bit when it comes to doing. The same goes when you write steadily for days. But when you know you have an audience, a bunch of readers who read and engage with your work, you are bound to do that.

It may seem difficult as you have to muscle up your brain to come up with ideas, but it is all worth it at the end of the day. It not only gives a brain a space to think out of the box but may also lead to an idea that was hiding in the unseen prison of the brain.

Many times I feel like I don’t have anything to write, I’ve said everything. This feeling I have had for the past 1 year. But interestingly, a random thought comes to my mind anytime anywhere that makes me so excited to write it down. It again filled me with the same energy. It’s a strange phenomenon that perhaps only exists because we write.

This all makes me realize how writing affects the brain. How have I changed since then? Does it really make my mind free? And, I would like to know does it affects yours as well?

And to edit a bad page, you first need to create one. For that, you must write. But writing isn’t just a walk in the park, it is way more than what you think it is. Writing is undoubtedly filled with highs and lows. There are certain things you should know about writing. But before that know why you should write? Why writing is important?

Just imagine, what would be the world if there is no writing communication ever exist among us? All the ancient and legendary mathematicians, philosophers, poets, legalist, theologians & storytellers their work, stories, and verses would have been lost forever.

There would have been no history, no stories, no poems of war & valour, nothing. This world would be a void place to live in.

But so luckily we have that medium that can transmit our knowledge and work through countless ages. This made all the difference about how much writing is important. This is how we became the most dominant species on the planet. We are the only species that transmit our ideas/work across generations.

In fact, history exists because of the written evidence. All the information, rituals, practices, and beliefs we follow and that our researchers have been able to gather is only and only because of the fact that we have written scriptures from various ancient civilizations.

Simply put,

“Knowledge is accepted when knowledge is written“

This shows how important writing is and why you should write every day. Your stories, your fantasies, your experiences, your knowledge, your skills & your creativity, just write’em all. Who knows? that your perspective may change someone’s life and way of thinking. And for that people will always remember you.

For Example,

If you are a Harry Potter fan like me then you probably know about J.K. Rowling, the beautiful mind and source of fantasy behind this legendary movie franchise in the movie industry. She wrote something that is considered to be the most famous novel of the twentieth century.

J.K. Rowling drew a lot of inspiration from her life and the people she knew as she created this fictional world of wizards and muggles. But it wasn’t an instant success. She failed plenty of times. Publishing houses refused to publish her books, thinking it was trash, and no one would read them.

But she didn’t stop writing, she just kept doing it. And at last, she ended up creating something that welcomed us to the land of magic. It all became so realistic how old we become but still wish to get a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry each summer (still waiting for mine!).

It’s an inspiration that how J.K. Rowling went from a struggling mother to the World’s most successful author. This is the power of writing.

So, Why You Should Write Everyday?

Writing perfectly synchronizes your heart and mind. Writing is such a creative outlet to broaden your senses. It’s a perfectly balanced swirl and swing of the words to bring out a writer in you. If you love to write you know what I’m talking about.

Everyone has some untold stories or imaginations that fade with the passage of time. And trust me, there is no better anguish than bearing an untold story within you, to let it die prematurely with the transit of span.

The writing describes how free is your mind. Now, take a break, think for a while, grab your pen and let that wisdom be shared. Don’t simply leave those fantasies of your mind behind the unseen prison. Let them proclaim their independence, set them free. Let your words speak for you and for your imagination.

Start With A Blog Writing

Now you know why you should write. If you are thinking and ready to share your wisdom, I suggest you start with blog writing.

There are various blogging platforms that provide you the space to share your own perspectives. Some of the famous blogging platforms are WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr, Squarespace, Medium, Weebly, and Strikingly. Get your free account and start writing.

You can opt for niche blogging dedicated to one specific topic like travel, fashion, food, health, sports, etc. if you have relevant skills and knowledge about the field. Otherwise, go for general blogging which is what most beginners do.

And obviously, you’ll face difficulties from the start and later on too. It hardens you in a way and polarises you. You’ll start thinking about each word before writing, thinking about the content, thinking about whether will people like it or not? You’ll recheck again and again to make it more relevant & insightful.

You will write a lot of things that make you cringe, you spend hours on editing and may fill folders with ghastly drafts.

Perhaps even after putting in all this effort and time writer’s written work may simply not match the perfection he has created in his own mind. The writer even rejects himself much before readers reject him.

But that is who a writer is. You can’t expect everything to go right. Writing is going to be much more of a challenge than you think it is, but that doesn’t mean you lose heart. You’ll grow, you’ll learn. Things can change quickly.

Here I mentioned some tips, for writing a good blog for a beginner, that I’ve learned now by reading articles, other blogger’s blogs, and myself. Though I’m not a professional by myself, I think it may help you if you have just started out.

1. Start small. You don’t have to write 1000 words. Once habit is in its place you can lengthen it.
2. Make simple, short & precise sentences.
3. Build up your vocabulary.
4. Use more active voice sentences than passive voice.
5. Try to keep your paragraph under 300 words to enhance readability.
6. Use more transition words.
7. Use sub-headings instead of long text.
8. Don’t use consecutive sentences starting with the same word.
9. Write compelling headlines.
10. Take your time and analyze it. Ask your friend for reviews.
11. Don’t get frustrated. If there are bad days there will be good days too.
12. You’ve got something to say so say it without fear of failure.

The most essential part of writing is editing. I read my blogs several times and every time I come up with better lines and vocabulary. Great editing that can rework terrible writing into a fantastic piece is a skill worth having.

Once you get into it you’ll start enjoying it. Write for yourself first and once you get started to believe then broaden your plans. Analyze and Know your audience and what they want from you. Remember, whatever reason you’re writing for, it won’t always be sunshine and rainbows. But if your passion and love for writing are as clear as a sunny day, then there won’t be any storm to stop you.

After getting some experience in the field of blogging, later you can go for writing your very own first Novel or E-book, sharing your experience, stories, and fantasies with the world.

With time you’ll learn the power of words and interaction with the audience. You just have to get started somewhere, not just to become a writer but for yourself too.

Writing is surely a great way of communication for people who are too shy to talk and hesitate to express themselves and their feelings. But introverts are more reserved and thoughtful. They often see and observe the world in a completely different way. Their writing can inspire plenty of people.

Whether you are writing a book, essays, or blog posts, writing is a great way to get your voice out there without even actually saying it.

5. Pen Is Mightier Than Sword

We have been seeing how various diabolical groups are spreading hatred, false propaganda, communal tension, and distrust among each other.

Edward Bulwer Lytton, an English author wrote a proverb in 1839, “The Pen is mightier than the sword”, which shows writing being more powerful can achieve a lot more than a sword does. The power of writing is eternal.

6. Helps In Getting Job

Today’s digital age hasn’t reduced the need for writing. Business requires people with good writing skills for all online conversations, websites, e-mails, etc. If you can equip that skill at an early age then it’ll help you to get a good job.

Through writing, we can look into the past, write our present, and create our imagined future of fantasies. If you want to write daily, then you must make it a habit first. Write something every day. In time writing can flawlessly blend your fancy to fidelity.

Honestly, it feels like yesterday when I and my friend were figuring out WordPress and how it works, thinking of publishing our first post on Aspiring Blog. I remember we were discussing over the phone about- Will people love our work & perspectives? Will we get support from the community? Is writing thoughts really worth it? I can still feel the same excitement, emotions & anticipation we had a year ago. There were a little excitement and fear we both had.

But in just 1 year, the energy, the courage, the love, & the support we get from here and from numerous people all over the world are way too high to defeat all our hesitation and fear. Between all the chaos, something good happened to us in 2020, when people were locked up in the houses, it was the blogging that kept our minds calm.

Although it was a roller-coaster ride for us. We’ve learned so many things. We made mistakes, some terrible mistakes too Lol!. We even ran out of ideas. We ran out of new content. We lose confidence sometimes, but we also saw people cheering us up, and that’s how we continue to go on.

Blogging is no-doubt is a never-ending learning process. And, it wasn’t that easy as we assumed. It requires a lot of effort, unique ideas, good content, hard work, and most importantly consistency.

There is one thing, that I can proudly say that we built this blogging website from scratch, without any knowledge, without any help from anyone, but just learn from the resources available on the internet.

We named it Aspiring Blog because ‘Aspiring’ means desire, self-seeking, or directing one’s hope or ambition. But in fact, you all inspire us to aspire and this is how Aspiring Blog aka theblogera.com is going.

The biggest success we got in one year span is not the statistics or no. of subscribers but all the positive comments and support that we are able to make one year blogging anniversary. It itself is a big success.

During our one-year journey, we’ve met different bloggers with different writing skills. There are also some bloggers who made a good impact on us. We always try to take inspiration from all of you without copying it and will continue to do.

The best thing is that the views count included referrers from WordPress readers to search engines(Google, Baidu, Bing) and to social media and even youtube. Our majority of views count are from our own country India followed by the United States and the United Kingdom.

Before all this, we were just simple two guys who know nothing about blogging and how it works. But within these months we’ve learned a lot and sees some unexpected things. Someone told us from the community that number doesn’t matter, it brings you nothing. Statistics can be deceptive. It’s only how many people’s minds & hearts we can touch through our post to bring some positive impact to our society.

This advice really helps us a lot to keep going and never looking back. But we believe sometimes understanding the feedback is also very necessary.

Your statistics are not just to give you an ego boost. It is way more than a bunch of charts to see into the minds of your readers and shape your blog accordingly. It’s natural to look at your stats to build up the confidence you need to keep going. If you’re trying to build a readership, are not using the world of data you’re really missing out something to boost your traffic.

We are still learning these things and trying to express our views and emotions. We may be wrong at some point, but the relationship we built with every single reader & blogger and love we get is something extraordinary. And especially the lovely comments and advice we got till now really empowered and encourage us to do something more for you wonderful guys.
