An American author, Jodi Lynn Picoult wrote “You can always edit a bad page. You can’t edit a blank page.”
And to edit a bad page, you first need to create one. For that, you must write. But writing isn’t just a walk in the park, it is way more than what you think it is. Writing is undoubtedly filled with highs and lows. There are certain things you should know about writing. But before that know why you should write? Why writing is important?
Just imagine, what would be the world if there is no writing communication ever exist among us? All the ancient and legendary mathematicians, philosophers, poets, legalist, theologians & storytellers their work, stories, verses would have been lost forever.
There would have been no history, no stories, no poems of war & valor, nothing. This world would be a void place to live in.
But so luckily we have that medium that can transmit our knowledge and work through countless ages. This made all the difference about how much writing is important. This is how we became the most dominant species on the planet. We are the only species that transmit our ideas/work across generations.
In fact, history exists because of the written evidence. All the information, rituals, practices, beliefs we follow and that our researchers have been able to gather is only and only because of the fact that we have written scriptures from various ancient civilizations.
Simply put,
Knowledge is accepted when knowledge is written
This shows how much writing is important and why you should write? Your stories, your fantasies, your experiences, your knowledge, your skills & your creativeness, just write’em all. Who knows? that your perspective may change someone’s life and way of thinking. And for that people will always remember you.
For Instance,
If you are a Harry Potter fan like me then you probably know about J.K. Rowling, the beautiful mind and source of fantasy behind this legendary movie franchise in the movie industry. She wrote something that is considered to be the most famous novel of the twentieth century.
J.K. Rowling drew a lot of inspiration from her life and the people she knew as she created this fictional world of wizards and muggles. But it wasn’t an instant success. She failed plenty of times. Publishing houses refused to publish her books, thinking it’s trash, no one will read them.
But she didn’t stop writing, she just kept doing it. And at last, she ended up creating something that welcomed us to the land of magic. It all became so realistic that how much old we become but still wishes to get a letter from Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry each summer (still waiting for mine!).
It’s an inspiration that how J.K. Rowling went from a struggling mother to the World’s most successful author. This is the power of writing.
So, Why You Should Write?
Writing perfectly synchronizes your heart and mind. Writing is such a creative outlet to broaden your senses. It’s a perfectly balanced swirl and swing of the words to bring out a writer in you. If you love to write you know what I’m talking about.
Everyone has some untold stories or imaginations that fade with the passage of time. And trust me, there is no better anguish than bearing an untold story within you, to let it die pre-mature with the transit of span.
The writing describes how free is your mind. Now, take a break, think for a while, grab your pen and let that wisdom be shared. Don’t simply let those fantasies of your mind behind the unseen prison. Let them proclaim their independence, set them free. Let your words speak for you and for your imagination.
Start With A Blog Writing
Now you know why you should write. If you are thinking and ready to share your wisdom, I suggest you start with blog writing.
There are various blogging platforms that provide you the space to share your own perspectives. Some of the famous blogging platforms are WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr, Squarespace, Medium, Weebly, Strikingly. Get your free account and start writing.
You can opt for niche blogging dedicated to one specific topic like travel, fashion, food, health, sports, etc. if you have relevant skills and knowledge about the field. Otherwise, go for general blogging that is what most beginners do.
And obviously, you’ll face difficulties from the start and later on too. It hardens you in a way, polarises you. You’ll be started thinking about each word before writing, thinking about the content, thinking about will people like it or not? You’ll recheck again and again to make it more relevant & insightful.
You will write a lot of things that make you cringe, you spent hours on editing and may fill folders with ghastly drafts.
Perhaps even after putting in all these efforts and time writer’s written work may simply don’t match the perfection he has created in his own mind. The writer even rejects himself much before readers reject him.
But that is who a writer is. You can’t expect everything to go right. Writing is going to be much more of a challenge than you think it is, but that doesn’t mean you lose heart. You’ll grow, you’ll learn. Things can change quickly.
Here I mentioned some tips, to write a good blog for a beginner, that I’ve learned till now by reading articles, other blogger’s blogs, and myself. Though I’m not a professional by myself, I think it may help you if you are just started out.
- Start small. You don’t have to write 1000 words. Once habit in its place you can lengthen it.
- Make simple, short & precise sentences.
- Build up your vocabulary.
- Use more active voice sentences than passive voice.
- Try to keep your paragraph under 300 words to enhance readability.
- Use more transition words.
- Use sub-headings instead of long text.
- Don’t use consecutive sentences starting with the same word.
- Write compelling headlines.
- Take your time and analyze it. Ask your friend for reviews.
- Don’t get frustrated. If there are bad days there will be good days too.
- You’ve got something to say so say it without fear of failure.
The most essential part of writing is editing. I myself read my blogs several times and every time I come up with better lines and vocabulary. Great editing that can rework terrible writing into a fantastic piece is a skill worth having.
Once you get into it you’ll start enjoying it. Write for yourself first and once you get started to believe then broaden your plans. Analyze and Know your audience and what they want from you. Remember, whatever reason you’re writing for, it won’t always be sunshine and rainbows. But if your passion and love for writing are clear as a sunny day, then there won’t be any storm to stop you.
After getting some experience in the field of blogging, later you can go for writing your very own first Novel or E-book, sharing your experience, stories, and fantasies with the world.
With time you’ll learn the power of words and interaction with the audience. You just have to get started somewhere, not just to become a writer but for yourself too.
Here are a few other points that show Why writing is important? and why writing skills are important?
Why Writing Is Important?
1. Improve Creativity & Imagination
Writing forces you to come up with new ideas regularly. Ideas are everywhere in people you talk to, in your life experiment, in things you read, in adventure, in music, in books & magazines. It improves the creativity & imagination of your mind.
2. Important For Students
We all have a terrible experience as a student in school while writing essays or brief paragraphs. Writing isn’t just limited to school it goes beyond school purposes. It’s the ability to explain yourself and eventually improves communication skills that’ll help you later in your life.
3. Improve Knowledge
Effective and compelling writing is necessary to get more readers. Every time you start writing you must have relevant knowledge, skills, and proper research to bring out the best in you. Writing requires knowledge.
Writing uses both sides of the brain, right for creativity and artistic while left being more logical.
4. Good For Introverts
Writing is surely a great way of communication for people who are shy to talk and hesitates to express themselves and their feelings. But introverts are more reserved and thoughtful. They often see and observe the world in a completely different way. Their writing can inspire plenty of people.
Whether you are writing a book, essays, or blog posts, writing is a great way to get your voice out there without even actually saying it.
5. Pen Is Mightier Than Sword
We have been seeing how various diabolical groups are spreading hatred, false propaganda, communal tension, and distrust among each other.
Edward Bulwer Lytton, an English author wrote a proverb in 1839, “The Pen is mightier than the sword”, which shows writing being more powerful can achieve a lot more than a sword does. The power of writing is eternal.
6. Helps In Getting Job
Today’s digital age hasn’t reduced the need for writing. Business requires people with good writing skills for all online conversations, websites, e-mails, etc. If you can equip that skill at an early age then it’ll help you to get a good job.
Through writing, we can look into the past, write our present, and can create our imagined future of fantasies. If you want to write daily, then you must make it a habit first. Write something every day. In time writing can flawlessly blend your fancy to fidelity.
Now, buckle up, rinse and repeat and let your thinking be made public.
I’m sure you have some pending drafts left to be completed.

I like your encouraging post. I do want to write more but I hesitate in concern that my writing is not worth reading more habitually. I think nature does pass on knowledge although the human race does so differently. Many bird species travel huge distances to nesting fields of their parents despite never being there. Lastly I am interested in your opinion about blog length. It has been my opinion that blogs are for short consumption, and more akin to an ongoing sequel that you visit regularly. Wasn’t that how Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote for Strand magazine?
October 13, 2020 at 7:27 am
First of all Thankyou.
And I like the way you describe your views on writing.
I do sometimes hesitate to write frequently, but ofcourse it’s completely normal, everyone does that. Even the well established writer.
And for the length of a blog I prefer quality over quantity.
Expert often says, for SEO you must write lengthen blogs.
But I’ve seen blogs on top pages of Google with 300-400 words. Even that said example by you.

Brilliant. Absolutely need this
October 15, 2020 at 9:11 pm
I agree completely as to writing’s importance. Unfortunately, many of us who write are harsh critics are our own work. The blank page is intimidating b/c we aim for perfection. We must, however, persevere. Even Shakespeare was not born spouting poetry. Every voice is unique — flaws included.
October 15, 2020 at 9:52 pm
Yes, exactly that is what who a writer is, start with imperfections.
Practice reduces way more imperfections in you as comparing to make you more perfect.
I like your views on this. Thanks Anna.
October 17, 2020 at 11:23 pm
Nice post that touches on so much. I finally started blogging regularly with added time on my hands after COVID. Life also seemed less sure and my main motivation has been simply to leave my kids with some trace of me that will exist after I’m gone. But you’re right, in that writing is improving my ability to express ideas and keeps me learning—enriching my life.
October 18, 2020 at 5:10 pm
I just love your thinking about writing. And no doubt that you are a great mom.
The fact is that I still breaks consistency of writing regularly.
I’m working on this to write atleast twice a week.
So, keep writing and keep enriching your life.
May God bless you and your family.
October 18, 2020 at 4:22 pm
So many great ideas in this blog post. I love the reminder that we can’t edit a blank page. Also, as an introvert, I definitely prefer to communicate via writing — often it is during the process of writing that I am able to figure out and articulate exactly what I am thinking and feeling about a certain situation. I also like reading everyone’s comments. Thank YOU for writing this blog post.
October 18, 2020 at 5:04 pm
Thankyou for your kind words.
And yes you are right through writing we can actually figure out what we feel and think.
I was introvert too, but now I feel that my shyness is slowly fading away. All thanks to the writing and interaction I able to made with fellow bloggers.
Thankyou.

Writing is my not only my job but an outlet of my emotions! I write when i’m inspired or i’m feeling sorrow, pain, and anger! It helps soothe me and i don’t care who reads it! I’m glad sometimes it helps someone else but for the most part i do it because i’m inspired to do so. I’m not real good on how my blogs look but they serve their purpose! I like your blogs they are nice! Ty for the inspiration!
October 26, 2020 at 11:16 am
If you believe that your writing are serving their purpose than nothing can be more soothing.
I’m happy that you write for yourself first. Just keep doing it.
And thank you for reading.
Cheers

October 29, 2020 at 5:54 pm
Writing is something I can’t help but do! Words form into coherent sentences in my head, to make poems, song lyrics, and stories. I’ve just finished the first draft of my first novel and am diving into the editing process. Some of it is good, some of it is bad, some of it is just ok. It’s so true that we need to put writing on the page if we want to be a writer! Editing can cover later, but we need the words written down!
Thank you for sharing. 😊

Excellent post, but I would add again (gave this advice before), every one should write a journal daily about all the people one meets or about interesting events, It could become your pension in the future.
Joanna
November 11, 2020 at 7:05 pm
Yes it will,
And I always consider to write down all my life events or anything big or small that have changed my perspective.
But I’m still looking at to write daily as you said, I’m still lacking it.
And Thank you for reading. (Sorry for late reply too)

I love the content. So much to glean from. Definitely, writing is for introverts like me. I was jus thinking about this last night. I realized, that WordPress is more of a community of introverts. And writing is introvert’s best friend, aside from a book. Haha! 😀
Thank you for the learning I got from this post. I want to improve more. The points here would help me.
February 11, 2021 at 11:31 am
Thankyou so much Deborah. I’m glad you find this post motivating.
Everyone has some untold stories and perspectives and I believe that platform like WordPress is a perfect place to set them free.
I find that this community has always been very supportive. There’s so much to learn.
April 6, 2021 at 7:52 pm
I enjoyed your points of view in regards to writing. It does take a lot of time and energy to create a full length novel. Yes, a blog is easier to write and create each day. I love writing books and I am behind on a Trilogy I started a few years ago. My health takes me on some crazy rides. I really do like this page you created. I have two books self published which of course I am very proud of. I have lots of writing inside of me yet. Thanks for all the great tips.
April 6, 2021 at 8:42 pm
Thanks to you,
Surely Writing requires lots and lots of work. It’s a never ending learning process,
I know you know better than me. I just started it out, but you are far more experienced than me here,
Your love for writing is inspirational for me and the one who is reading your comment.
Hope I’ll continue to do what I’m doing.
All the wishes for your future novels.
April 7, 2021 at 10:57 am
Hello Ritish Thank you again for the kind, inspirational words. Writing does take time you are correct about that. It can also be fun and exciting and rewarding all the way through each project from books to creating blog posts for wordpress.com I think you will be here doing what you are learning to do fro a long time. I just write what ever comes into my head. Wishing you success, fun and excitement as you go along this route of writing. All the best Ritish !!

June 14, 2021 at 12:07 pm
That was in the blog. Apologies.

June 18, 2021 at 1:48 am
Just went through this recently. So, so, so, so, so true! Could NOT get started on a writing project. Kept saying, “Tomorrow,” and tomorrow never came. Finally just threw myself into it and wrote whatever came to mind. It was terrible and all wrong! But it was a starting point.
June 18, 2021 at 12:11 pm
Wow! So glad to hear from you, Seliza.
We all have this habit of postponing things day after day, don’t we? But I’ve noticed and experienced that once we started it out somehow, then it became all easy to face it.
Glad you find the starting point of whatever you are going to do. Hope your endeavor succeeds.

Jodi Picoult one of the author that I grew up with. Her books were my staples when I was in university.🥰
I still don’t consider myself as a writer at this time because my vocabulary is still a work in progress and my grammar still needs work but one thing I knew I am a story teller and I love to read and learn from people who have mastered the craft of writing.💯
Thanks for your post!
June 25, 2021 at 4:41 pm
She is one of the successful novelist and storyteller, I read about her work a lot.
And you’re absolutely right, Ive learned so many things through writing, learned so many new words, grammar. Though English is not my first language, so it’s quite a achievement for me atleast.
It’s a never ending learning process. Thank-you for your words.

July 7, 2021 at 4:52 pm
Haha! I suspect you’re a potterhead too. We all are a part of Hogwarts from the day we read it’s first chapter or watch the movie.
July 13, 2021 at 11:09 am
Your tips are very useful and the quotes that you used 😊and I am also a potterhead😍. Love it🥰 . Is it really necessary to write long blogs ?🤔 I am bit new to this platform
July 13, 2021 at 12:04 pm
Definitely not. More precisely it depends, if the blog needs more words like if it is informational or something than naturally it’ll get lengthen.
Otherwise, don’t unnecessarily stretch it it will ruin the sense and readibility.
For now just focus on the quality of content that give value to the readers and that what matters the most.
Wishing you the success in the journey. Thank-you for being here.
