Your Sixth Sense Of Humor

Having a good sense of humor means having a tool you can use to wrap up a particular moment in a style that others enjoy. It is like an additional skill that you acquire naturally, genetically, or even perhaps forcefully.

So, besides all of your 5 senses, What do you think about your sixth sense? The sixth sense – “Humor”. Do you consider yourself wittiest or exceptionally humorless? Have you ever said something extraordinary that made you the ‘Show stealer’? The situation where you felt like people around you just gonna pick you up on their shoulders and are about to shout- “He is the man”.

To clarify what I mean, here’s my little story: Some years back, while taking participation in a group discussion I realized how important is this sense of humor. As a part of the extracurricular activity, we’ve been provided with a topic about the fantasies of Unicorns (Yes I do mean unicorns), and now everyone had to come up with interesting & better points to get better points.

So, here’s the situation, everyone in that discussion group, including me, was making fantasies about unicorns and then there was this guy who didn’t even utter a single word for the whole discussion.

But in the end, this is what he came up with- I think Unicorns are real, they are just little fat and call themselves Rhinos”.

That may sound illogically brilliant. But his words became the moment of the discussion, and we did laugh for straight 5 minutes.

Hence, you can also make the best out of the debate or discussions just by tackling it with puns. Just remember, if you don’t have a smart opinion then just make an intelligent pun.

Humour is not childish, definitely not, it’s a real man game. People say that being funny is definitely a quality that requires intelligence. The part where intelligence becomes correlated with humor is when a certain joke is cleverly crafted that it takes a person some time to know the exact wordplay.

For instance, if you closely examine or if you closely think about it, you find that saying someone Happy new year on their birthday makes more sense. Isn’t it? Or, thoughts like that you only have one birthday rest are just anniversaries. This is how you can make people think of your intelligence just by clicking their brain with your witticism.

As it is said, a person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs.

I admire people who understand and can laugh at their own shortcomings. It develops the attitude that allows you to laugh at your own silly mistakes. Did you remember that scene from The Pursuit of Happiness where Chris Gardner went for his first interview straight out of the police station without his shirt on?  If you can remember the talk between them, this is how it went at the end-

Martin Frohm: Chris, what would you say if a guy walked in for an interview without a shirt on, and I hired him? What would you say?

Chris Gardner: He must’ve had on some really nice pants.

(And, then everyone goes hahaha!)

See, it may seem normal to you but you must admit that his presence of mind and sense of humor gave him a comedic instinct and a memorable moment to others. It can help make the toughest job easier. So, don’t hesitate to add some humor to your talks. You can’t get fired for bad jokes unless the joke is extremely bad that isn’t suit your boss’s face.

Sometimes I think that there must be a subject on humor where we are taught how to enrich our senses of humor. A sense of humor is a key ingredient in creative thinking. There is a study that suggests that people having a healthy and good sense of humor tend to be more likable and are viewed as being more trustworthy and can build up relationships easily? Of course, People enjoy being around people who enlighten their mood and help them in easing out the stress.

Your sense of humor is completely yours (if you don’t steal it from somewhere else), so don’t limit it to that one friend only, otherwise, he’ll steal it from you and spit it out in public on his own copyright thing. So grab the opportunity before your friend makes his clever move to gain laughter.

If you think you are unfunny, then fake it until you become it, as Amy Cuddy would say.

And keep in mind not all forms of humor are enjoyed by all people. You can’t crack jokes at somebody’s funeral to get that same punch back on your face instead, except if someone from the family said you to crack. Laughing in a serious moment is a really bad habit – As I’ve already explained in my previous blog.

For instance,

You are having a date and you are walking with her, just a moment away you find that she slips on the ground, and now you go like He! He! Haw! Haw!. Just the next day she left a note on your TV saying- “It isn’t working”. But later you discovered the TV is working perfectly fine.

The thing is, you can’t find everything funny and laugh at your own jokes.

Think of a situation, when you are dead, you do not know you are dead. All of the pain is felt by others. The same thing happens when you are awkwardly uncomic and stupid.

A sense of humor, along with a sense of appreciation for humor is a great combination! But still I hate it when I have to explain the meme to my mom.

The sense of humor must be genuine and healthy which can make the conversation more interesting not awkward and hateful which left others down. Don’t make humor dark, make it a way of connecting others and spreading smiles on upset faces. Make the best out of your sixth sense.

What do you think about your sixth sense of humor? Is it alive or pretty much dead? If it is still taking a breath then prove it here in the comment section, and show some witticism.

And don’t fight like a cat and dog, if you use ‘humour‘ instead of ‘humor’. Both are the same as American and British things, and as none of these, I can use both.

  • Great Post. .Humour is a gift. When partnered with kindness it can bring joy into ordinary lives. When crafted it is only for a FEW.

    • Wise words. Sense of humour is indeed a gift you can share with others and can bring a gift of joy and smiles on their lips.

      Thankyou Faye.

  • What a wonderful and well written article. I am glad I got to read it early on a Friday morning. It will go with me for the Memorial weekend. Thanks my friend. PS Most of the time I am the: "that's what I should have said" guy.

    • Thankyou so much Dennis.

And it happens every time, the best lines enters the mind after that moment is over. I suggest you to keep a handbook with all the lines that you think is quite funny to say. 😁

Have a great and memorable weekend.

  • "People enjoy being around people who enlighten their mood and help them in easing out the stress."
Yeah I agree, atleast that's what is my criteria....😃😃

  • Very well written post. Enjoyed till the end. Don't know the unicorn thing was an actual GD or not, but that will surely be a room full of laughter.

    • Haha! The teacher was insanely mythical, probably watched 'Harry Potter and the Chambers of Secret' the day before.

Glad you enjoyed the post, Ashish.

  • I am not supposed to laugh at my own jokes? Dang, I have been messing that up my whole life!

    • Haha! You can laugh though, if it's extremely funny. Be a Mr. Bean 'Enjoy your own Company'. :-)

  • "I think Unicorns are real, they are just little fat and call themselves Rhinos". 😆😆🤭

  • I don't think that guy with a girl, on a date even dare to laugh when she slips. I think the situation will be more serious. Also, laughing on others is easy and cracking big laughter jokes is an art.

    Do you watch stand-up?

    • I suspect, situation was serious after.
'laughing at other is easy'- that's the reason most standup comedian make joke of themselves.

Do you watch stand-up?- 'Sometimes', not obsess though.

  • Yeah buddies! I feel deep pain when I am sarcastic about it and but my family actually starts to think that I am gardening in the bathroom when they ask me what am I doing in the bathroom?

    Anyways, great piece though.

      • आपका स्वागत है
Well, it happens when my Maa stands just outside the bathroom door and asks me what am I doing in the bathroom?
And I😑 am like mom I'm gardening in the bathroom because humans don't bath in a bathroom!

This is all becoz I don't know what else to answer her and she doesn't know what else to ask me then!
        😉

  • The sense of humor can truly be a life-saving characteristic. There are times in life we are confronted by great challenges or find ourselves in hellish circumstances. A sense of humor can provide at least temporary relief, defuse a tense situation, and help preserve our sanity.

    • Spot on.
I consider good humor as an important trait that everybody should acquire and know how to appreciate.
It definitely diffuse a tense situation.

      Thankyou for stopping by Anna.

  • Nicely laid out! I agree with everything. If there was one thing I could change from my past, it would be that I laughed more as a kid. But, oh well, can't go back. At least I lightened up later on. :)

    • Doesn't matter you can't go back. The heart is still a child, the child that knows how to laugh a good belly laugh.
      Make it work.

      Thankyou for stopping by, Seliza.
It's good to see you again

  • Yes indeed! Having a good sense of humor lightens the moods. Well done! It made me laugh and eases some burdens inside. And you have what it takes to be a jester. 😀😀😀
    Great sharing!

  • This was a interesting read. Sense of humour is all about presence of mind, even when the situation is against, with a good sense of humour we can make our way through sometimes.
    Great post.

    • That's why I consider it to be the most important sense for us as a human being.
Having good sense of humor and having a sense of appreciating the humor is a perfect combination to make opposite of the sad faces.

Thankyou. Glad you find this interesting.

  • I change my life when I accept laught and humour every day whatever the situation...
